  • this is really good riding man! must be so tough, such a long race with such challenging terrain. couldn't stop watching, great race!

  • Incroyable , Chapeau !

  • can u tell me wat bike u use and the name of the tire and rims

  • @unfalpulse:

Bike: Liteville 901 + RS Boxxer w/ Avalanche Suspension damper cartridge

Tires: Maxxis Minion DH F 2.5 supertacky

    Rims: DT EX5.1 (+ Hope Pro2 hubs)

Will change next time to the Liteville 601 + Totem and Stan's Flow rims instead.

But in the end, it's all in your brains and legs... .

  • This was incredible to watch. Thanks a bunch for sharing it!

  • great set of videos on this race rchewdy. it was awesome how the terrain changed so much each video and seeing you fend off the piles of fellow bikers

  • that is avesome

I hope next year I'll take part in it

  • How long this competition (in km)? btw: Nice race!

  • @Jamforever:

The main race is about 21.5km with 2'600 vertical metres.

So actually not that fast regarding average speed... ;-)

  • LAST SONG??

  • @marcoheco:

Chew Lips - Karen (Netsky Remix)

Great stuff - helped me through the extensive winter training on the ergometer. That's why I put it at the end... .

  • I agree, awesome video mate! what camera do you use? and whats your bike?

Oh, one more thing, if i fail university, i blame you! Coz ive just spent the last hour watching your Megavalanche race instead of doing my assignment...thanks for nothing! Haha!

  • @epgilbertson1:

    Cam: GoPro

    Bike: Liteville 901

But more important: What about university?

Do I have to change name and adress and leave the light on at night? ;-)

  • Oh yeah, how many broken bones are there in this race. Gotta be a lot!

  • brilliant ride, especially for an old Fart...LOL. I can't believe there are 5 other old farts faster than you! I have ridden those Alps, but nothing like this. Must comment on your riding style as I found it very fast but safe with ample distance from the rider in front and none of that idiotic passing we saw from others. Nothing like a gentleman rider with speed! excellent!

  • @MadDogDucati:

Thanks - in particular for this "gentlemen rider" comment. Because I believe that after all, it should be a joyful event for all participants, and not being spoiled by some idiots trying to finish 256th instead of 263th by kicking others out of the race. I can honestly say that I've never gone over 90% out of that very reason... .

  • @rchewdy great attitude that needs to be adopted by a few more riders. Aggressive is fine, but there is a limit. I have ridden with a member of the Japan Olympic MTB team (Athens) and he was very fast....but most impressive was his "gentleman rider" style. same for you, so best of luck next time!

  • very good video! wait for more!

    congratulations!!

  • Very nice! How old do you have to be to do a race like this? im 16 and would love to try that out.

  • @9BABIKER:

Think you gotta be 15 at least.

So simply go for it... .

  • Right! Excellent videos, but this year I only want to see 3 of them ;)

  • @mucoff:

Well, now that I've finally figured out the prerequisites how to upload vids with more than 15 minutes, it could be also only one in 2012 ;-)

But sorry, actually it will be none, as I won't be able to participate this year.

    Anyway, thanks for your comment.

  • Geile Fahrt, weiter so !

  • Brilliant, my kind of riding but never done this race before - maybe next year.

You rode it really well too, not like some of the idiots cutting you up!

  • Great videos! You was 6th in your category, only 5 sec behind the 5th... very nice result! But the better was that you overtook others a lot more than was overtaken by them, a run almost without errors.

Congratulations, and thank you for giving us this "gift"!

  • Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you for showing us this great video :) thanks to you, i think im going to apply for the 2012 race, it seemed alot fun, i dont have a top bike, but i think it will do enough, i only plan to downhill a bit and get real fun!!

  • Great!!!

  • Very good video, RChewdy. I'm an MTB XCo/Marathon racer, but I think I could do some good in that Megavalanche race with a XC bike. I found myself braking, pedaling with you in the video. You just could'nt have let those 3 last guys overtake you... You're very good at tecnical parts, most of the time, you just have to get more VO2 not to die at the end, hehehe. Good Job!

Where's this race, exactly, and when... and what's the race website? Thank you for a good ride. I felt like i was racing.

  • Video épico!!! Excelente um sonho de single, raises, decidas muito radicaisss fantastico.

  • Rippin!!!!! Great Vids!

  • AWESOME!! :-), i want to do this too, by the way, whats the song from 9:30 :-)

  • @Mushroomhrib its Chew Lips - Karen (Netsky Remix) good song :)

  • @Mushroomhrib:

    Here's the play list:

4.1) Professor Kliq - Brush off your shoulders

4.2) M.M.S. Project - Biological System - Caffeine (found on Jamendo)

4.3) Chew Lips - Karen (Netsky Remix)

  • I can't wait to test my Scott Genius LT10 on Megavalanche 2012! Nice vid!

  • you very very good rider.congratulations video and downhill!

  • AMAZING VIDEO - DUDE U R KICK ASS,ID LOVE TO TAKE PART IN THAT DOWNHILL RACE

    BIG UP

  • awesome vid

  • Man, I was riveted – and you are my new hero.

  • @rchewdy Mate... U are definetly CRAZY! U got my respect. WOW! (Ich bekomm ja schon Gänsehaut wenn ich nur zuschaue..)

  • Awsome videos dude and you have good bike handling skills.

When i saw the guy in the cow suit i was hoping you would catch up to him and beat him lol. He was on a roll.

  • awesome vid dude, and very nice race. Think i'll be there in 2012 with some crazy friends. We still dunno your final rank? :D

  • @Fitzmugen:

Thanx - well, mainly due to the lack of balls at the start and after that some shortcomings in sprinting capabilities, I've finished 127th. Still not bad for an old guy ;-) However, it's all about having fun, isn't it?

  • @rchewdy ok thanks, just wanted to know your rank to give me an idea of the level of the other guys. Think u did really great (wish i could do the same) and 127th or 350 shows how much the others are good... the start seems really hard, no need to break your back to win 10 ranks... the megavalanche is about fun as you said! ty again.

  • @Fitzmugen:

127th overall, 6th in my age category.

But above all: No puncture of broken bones :-)

  • Watched all 4 parts in a row.60 mins from top to bottom thats really good...... what was your final ranking?

maybe i try it next year.....

  • Nice video's mate. Please post some more!

  • I found myself riveted on all four of these videos of yours. They are brilliant! It's almost like a movie, where you are the main character who has to fight off the idiots and we get to see them fall in your path (literally). Being a cross country rider, I noticed one area where you could improve and keep the others behind you...when you hit a sudden up hill, drop to your easiest gear and pedal as fast as you can. This way you expend less energy pedalling and your legs don't burn as much.

  • @craigdk2010:

Thanks for your compliments and the interesting view on the plot of the vids - like it! And also thanks for your hints regarding pedaling strategies... ...actually, I've been racing CC for some years, too - but at that very day, I simply was exhausted and had a cold ;-) Still, I think I'm gonna grab the lighter 170mm bike in 2012... .

  • @rchewdy Well done! What a great series of videos. I wish I could ride in something like this - there aren't many places in Australia where you can get 2000m of descents in one go! I can see why you are considering using an all-mountain bike next time, but considering how less efficient your downhill bike must be at pedalling, you did very well on the flat and uphill sections. I suppose you'd appreciate the extra travel and plushness for all those rocks you have to endure for an hour

  • @craigdk2010 No thats not the case..

Lower gears are less efficient.. Use the highest gear you can to get up the hill.. So then it will take you less time to get there... When I race XC rarely will I use my granny ring, unless the incline is ridiculous,,

  • @TrevorDavies1

I agree with you. Lower gears are less efficient, yet easier. If you are struggling up a hill in a higher gear, change down, pedal faster, keep the same speed. Like you, my granny ring is only there for absolute killer hills. When I said easiest, I should have said easier.

  • AWESOME! really makes me want to ride! i need to upgrade me bike a bit before i attempt anything like that though hehehe, does any body know what the last song/tune is in part 3? i really can not find it any where, i have tried music recognition software but even that didn't know. also what it the first track in part 4? i can find a version by jay z but not this version. really wanna find this music so i can buy it then kill it hehe

  • @Kinmofo Jay-Z -Dirt Off Your Shoulder (Professor Kliq Remix)

    /watch?v=7jvE-Whx8eA

  • I was pedaling while I was watching

    Awesome vid!

  • I wonder how somebody like Sam Hill or Peaty would do on a course like this......

  • @TheNewnan3:

    Definitely much better :-)

  • @rchewdy eh don't think so sam hill has done Megavalanche. I did it this year and let me tell you this guy is flying . you really don't get just how crazy this is with a GoPro.

  • How did you know to keep wiping the camera lense? Could you tell it was dirty or do you just do it just in case it is?

  • @TheNewnan3:

Well, one smart man once said: "Make sure to keep your lens clean!". And after having made some frustrating experiences by not doing so, I'm reminding myself every other minute... ...you see, quite some stuff to think of during such races ;-)

  • @rchewdy I recently got an action cam and I always remember to wipe the lens after watching you! Great tip!

  • good race man!!

  • These are the best Mega helmet cams from this years race. Thank you for uploading. Great riding too !

  • @spinner660 As you said.. Brilliant bike handling skills you have there mate, and the camera angle is just perfect! Thanks!

  • Just sat and watched all four videos! Awesome effort! Where did you come?

  • excellent bravo super ride.

  • epic! just perfect... perfect video perfect ride. thanks

  • awesome video !!

  • very nice race, video and place. where mount your camera?

  • @terrejam:

A GoPro HD mounted to the mouthpiece of the fullface helmet (as can be seen in the first part of the qualification run). In my opinion superior to all other mounting options, as this comes very close to the natural view as being close to the eyes and symmetrical, is very stable due to the natural damping of the "head suspension", and points always into the direction your head moves.

  • great video it shows exactly why oonce you ride the mega you just wait for the next one. cant wait for 2012, what are you riding, you kill it on the climbs with your dh bike
