Fergie once said that McClair was probably his most underrated player ever, along with Denis Irwin. 127 goals for United puts him at 15th in the all-time top scorers list, ahead of Cole and Solskjaer.
used to be my fave United player..one of the most underrated United players ever..started as a striker with a great goal rate, and later adapted brilliantly to a midfield role, great passer of the ball..watch Norwich v United 92-93..he tore them apart,at a time when both clubs were chasing the title..a class act
One of my favourite players for Utd,no big time Charlie, not too proud to be a squad player in the latter years and a heart as big as a Hughesy's head!!
Brian McClair is proof that if you are lacking in natural talent, you can more than make up for it with determination. He played to his strengths. His strengths were his intelligence on and off the ball, and his finishing. And the fact, he flourished as a midfielder when his career came to an end, showed how much a class act he was. Love you Choccy.
am a celtic supporter and brian mcclair was my best player no doubt, he was top goal scorer for 4 years in a row and far better than mccoist at this stage, no man utd player had scored more than 20 goals since dennis law and george best. mcclair in his 1st season beat that record. awesome striker, dam shame celtic let him go
mcclair was awsome for glasgow celtic in the 80s. it did not surprise me that he made it at old trafford, the funny thing about brian mcclair is that he would always struggle to score for scotland. but chocky mcclair was fantastic for my beloved celtic, and i believe he did quite well for the red devils to.
blakula, only 3 of the 18 goals were set up by Giggs! I make that 0.16%. The first 14 were scored between 1987 and 1990 before Giggs had even made his debut.
man utd got him for a bargain as he was top scorer for celtic 4 years in a row at a time scotlands top 4 or 5 teams could rival the top teams in england!he wasnt just not a bad lad,but a top striker who scored loads for utd!one of fergies best ever signings!
Is it me or are about 80% of these goals set up by Ryan Giggs?! 2 legends of the game, McClair being one of the best natural finshers Scotland have ever produced. No lie.
hate to admit it but i agree with your comment regarding how poor the spl is,i mean look at our scotland team, kenny miller, chris commons christ i will say no more. but man utd got a bargin when they signed brian mcclair
Choccy was pure class, absolute bargain.Really intelligent with the ball ,what a player. He was the best player in the squad without doubt, regarded internally as top boy as well
I started going in the 1991/1992 season he was absolutly quality for us that season! We missed out on the title by inches but he also got sum cruicial goals in the 92/93 season when we eventually won the title!
my first memory of Choccy was him fuckin up Cantona's celebratation after the Sunderland goal. Class striker mind. I felt it ended for him when he was drifted into midfied and then Nicky Butt took that position as well..
he was looked a\s the saviour to be when they signed him wasn't he?? I think he nearly equalled the United goals in a season record which maybe Best held in one of his first few season, i think he notched nearly 30 in all comp but i'm not 100% - I used to be him or Mark Hughes in the playground as a kid!
Choccy dragged us through the late 80's when we were shite. Had we not pissed the 1992 league up the wall it would have been Choccy who won it for us. As others have said...a decent chap as well.
GOALS! GOALS! GOALS! What a hero. Plus don't forget he 'set up' Cantona's chip against Sunderland and Beckham's half way line goal against Wimbledon (RIP).

He wore the number 9 shirt and was bought from celtic as a main striker, that would never happen now because the SPL is so poor.

Wasn't it something ludicrous like £850,000 you Mancunian cocksuckers got him for?
Bargain of the fucking century that was. I still love him, even if I wouldn't wipe my arse with a Man U top.
