My wife and I birthed a big boy back in July - who came out the color of the sky at sunset. We lifted him right onto mommy's chest where he promptly turned pink. Ahhh kids....joy. Adventure. Worry. Sleep deprivation. And always, amazing joy.

My wife just delivered our second child - 9 lbs 13 oz, and healthy - vaginally, without pain meds or any medical intervention. Both our kids came out a blue-berry shade of blue, and were immediately hoisted up onto mommy's chest, skin-on-skin, where they pinked up immediately, and nursed within 30 minutes. And yes, my wife's vagina was tighter weeks later than before birth, helped no doubt by rigorous kegel excercises.

Oh hi dumbhead I live in AUSTRALIA and they won't put a baby into the incubator just because it's blue why should they? sometimes they give little bit of oxygen if needed and of course they know what they doing plus they didn't seem concerned about the baby at all maybe because they doing it all day long and everyday and the baby seemed fine so just because your bay was put into the incubator doesn't mean that every single baby looking a bit blue will go straight in.

Beautiful baby, what an horrific birth! That baby would score about 1 on the Apga scale. Floppy and blue and not crying. It was the most upsetting thing I have ever seen. I just wanted to hug that little baby and make it feel wanted. They just left it there. Is this done in a third world country, I've never seen a baby treated like that in my life. Where was the excitement from the "nurses" they treated it like meat and what was with the frigging writing on its poor little leg!

Wake up! Birth was absolutely OK, but Zuzanka was a little bit exhausted. Obstetrics in our counntry is one of the best all around the world. We have one of lowest mortality of newborn babies on the world. Writing name on a leg immediatly after birth is to avoid confusion between babies.

For you information, Czech Rep. is in The Middle Europe, not third world... To learn, to learn, to learn! :o)

We do things very different here, and a baby that was this exhausted would go to the Special Care Baby Unit immediately. I have two daughters myself, both natural and one quite traumatic and my daughter looked a lot like yours and she was rushed straight to the SCBU for oxygen and monitoring. Maybe this is why it was so upsetting to me.

We call SCBU "incubator", my sister is a head nurse on detachment where they care about early born babies (sometimes about 500grams). I know I am talking about very well :o)

Wow i've just read through this debate. I'm a nurse in Scotland - admittedly not a child nurse but i work in itu. I wouldn't say your baby was blue. That first breath is one of the hardest to take, and i thought your nurses looked like they were getting on with their job. I'd be more concerned if the baby was actually a shade of blue and the nurses were excited. If they'd got an incubator, it wouldn't have been needed. As someone said a sniff of O2 is enough, if that's all that's needed.

It doesn't take an incubator to provide that. The problem with some people, is that they can't let people do their jobs. Nursing and medical staff are so often judged by the one thing we didn't do, rather than what we did do. You were obviously very happy with the care you received and your baby was well. If the staff didn't seem excited i don't see the big deal. They were obviously competent and you were happy. Your baby didn't mind the writing on the leg! Thank you for sharing this with us

This is from Czech republic and unfortunately not every country has the same procedures and techniques before and after birth.They have different style and you could see that they write the baby's surname on it's leg so there is no mistake of getting someone else's baby.Anyway congratulations to your baby daughter Zuzana and to both of you- enjoy it she is beautiful and very nice from the baby's father to do this video clip for his wife's 23rd birthday
