Klinghoffer seems to be an amazing musician/songwriter. However, there is an inherent lack of guitar on the new album. I will always love the Chili Peppers but as of right now there is a John Frusciante-sized void that has yet to be filled.

I could not have said it better myself. That was the great thing about the Chili Peppers, it was that every show had a kind of jazz aura to it, which allowed Flea and Frusciante to produce some of the most iconic onstage improvisations the 21st Century has to offer. Something like Led Zeppelin had back in the day. I couldn't really imagine Josh being on the same level after hearing the new album. Sure a few catchy riffs, but no real magic is going down.
