God got Duane, Barry Ronnie V Zandt, Hughie from Outlaws, Danny from Hatchet, Toy and Tommy from MTB Billy Powell and Taz from Charlie Daniels but needed 1 more voice for the ultimate kick ass boogie band on the south side of Heaven and recruited Ronnie Hammond.
Back when ARS was called the Doraville 5, Mike White, the lead guitarist at the time came to my house with the manager of ARS and Brick to interview me for their open guitar playing slot. I did not realize who they were and I got into it with Mike White because I thought he was a cocky asshole. They ended up leaving the house and my best friend said do you know what you just did? Wow...... that taught me a lesson that has carried me through life. You just never know what might have been.
@Wrongway1965 Yeah, I wasn't that good anyway wrong... I was just a cover band type of musician. I never would have been one of those Eddie Van Halen types. So, no need to be jealous. I just had a friend that had a friend.... you know the deal
ARS One of my all time favorite groups. Met Ronnie Hammond at his sister's house near Culloden, Georgia back in the late seventies. He was at the bottom of a well helping his brother in law clean it out. I walked up and heard him singing this song down there. I knew who it was instantly. Thanks for the memory, Ronnie.
Growing up in the Macon area and being in a cover band for most of my teen and twenties, this really hits home with the death of Ronnie. My band was always competing with other bands when we wanted to become a bars house band and to do so, I would pull out the Georgia Rhythm song and we would win every time. Ronnie.... you will be missed and thank you for being a part of my life.
RIP Ronnie Hammond. What a golden voice. Classics like these were the soundtrack of my youth in the late 1970s in Atlanta. Thank you for sharing your gift with us and for bringing these songs to us live in the 1980s and 90s.
What a handsome group of young men
