Ahh Pikmin.. my first Gamecube game, fell in love with it when i watched the commertials on TV.. never dissapointing had so much fun with it. I never stop playing it always trying to beat my high scores. Without a doubt a masterpiece in strategy/adventure games and my favorite game ever.
I hope they add the time limit back to Pikmin 3. I just love how it forces a player to better stratigize and build their techniques. Though of course the game should be way longer than Pikmin 1.

Pikmin is, in my opinion, better than Pikmin 2. Most of Pikmin 2 is spent in caves, which is much less fun than the overworld. I much preferred Olimar's monologue over the ship's and his relative's. The 30 day limit was a good way of reminding me to actually get stuff done in a day instead of just foraging for resources. The plot of survival felt a lot better than plain treasure hunting. And, last but not least, the challenge mode was 10 times better than in the sequel.
What I like about pikmin 2 (and 1), is that it makes you LEARN what to do.

@MultiHi123 Damn that was a quick response I was still watching the vid.XD. It's not a downloadble game if thats what you mean. They did however re-release Pikmin 1 for wii with wii controls. Pikmin 2 also got re-release but only for japan and Eurpoe. It never got release in NA for unknown reasons. So the only known way to play pikmin 2(in NA) currently is owning the orignial gamecube copy.

You can import the wii's version of pikmin 2 but wiis are region lock and you would have to know how to mod your wii to play pal region games. I don't; know how to do it but I wish I knew. There are some current wii games I want to play that didn't get release here but did in Europe.
Gamecube IS the best system. On pikmin 2 I had nearly 10,000 pikmin but my dog ate my memory card. Can't remember if it was 10,000 or 1,000, but I've had the game since around when it came out.

@IceStudios100 excellent idea. I always had the idea of orange pikmin who are elastic. Wich you can use for more platform elements in the game. Such as making bridges or using them to swing with them as a rope

The gold sounds kind of useless, being the fact that the little light on your head does more than enough, and you can see enemies slowly fade in and give you more than enough time to react. You have good thoughts though.

I keep seeing this game on "Top Gamecube Games of All Time" lists but I dunno...every time I watch vids of it I don't see what's so fun about it? It looks like a jumbled mess...everything is so small, how can you tell what's going on? What am I missing?
@papatoony That's what I thought too, thinking "How the hell do you keep track of everything?!?!", and such. I saw a few reviews though, and I found the first game for like 10 bucks, so I tried it. It. Was. AWESOME. I found out there was a second game, and it turned out even better.
Pikmin is one of those games were it doesn't really have true outward appeal, but is truly immersive and thought-provoking when you play it.
So yeah, like everyone else is saying, you're missing a LOT!
@BISlover544 I finally bought Pikmin 2 (it was EXPENSIVE!) but it didn't come with the manual so I'm not completely sure of what I'm doing. So far not addicted :( Hopefully once I figure out all the controls it'll be more fun.

@poefred999 Oh my mistake then. I live in Europe. If I were you I would just buy the gamecube version on internet. That's probably the easiest way. The wii controls are good, but it doesn't really add anything to the game. It's just as fun with the gamecube (I have both versions).

I love the first Pikmin, but I was a tad let down by the second. Too much of the second game takes place underground, and call me crazy but.....I sorta missed the 30 day limit from the original. The 30 day limit served as a driving force that kept the tension high, and made sure that you used your time strategically, but since the second game had no day limit, it felt a little too laid back and tame. I still love Pikmin 2, but I still prefer the original.
I think it wasn't the 30 day limit that made the game short, it was the fact that there wasn't alot of items in the first game. You only needed to collect 25 ship parts in 30 days, and you could sometimes collect 2 or 3 a day. While the second game made you collect around 80-90 treasures. There just wasn't enough to collect in the first game, and that is why it is short.
thats true but even if you don't find all the items the longest that gameplay can possibly be is about 7 1/2 hours. *except for the first day, cutscenes, if you replayed the levels or if you play the challenge mode.*

FINNALY! I Finnaly got a working copy and the game is sooo awesome but if I rate this on a scale on 1 to 10 it would be a solid 10/10 :) and of cors if it were a scale of 1 to 5 solid 5/5 ^_^

i am so lucky it only took me a year to find it.it was at my gamestop but not on the shelves. i told the casheir if you have it and they said yes.

I keep seeing this game on "Top Gamecube Games of All Time" lists but I dunno...every time I watch vids of it I don't see what's so fun about it? It looks like a jumbled mess...everything is so small, how can you tell what's going on? What am I missing?

@papatoony A LOT!!! You really need to play it too see how VERY addictive it is! It's so much fun just ambushing an enemy with 100 little guys =D

@papatoony It's more or less you need to play to experience it you play one of them then you can see nintendo can make gold out of anything.
P.S Nintendo (well Mario's creater Shigiru Miyamoto) made it

@papatoony That's what I thought too, thinking "How the hell do you keep track of everything?!?!", and such. I saw a few reviews though, and I found the first game for like 10 bucks, so I tried it. It. Was. AWESOME. I found out there was a second game, and it turned out even better.
Pikmin is one of those games were it doesn't really have true outward appeal, but is truly immersive and thought-provoking when you play it.
So yeah, like everyone else is saying, you're missing a LOT!

@BISlover544 I finally bought Pikmin 2 (it was EXPENSIVE!) but it didn't come with the manual so I'm not completely sure of what I'm doing. So far not addicted :( Hopefully once I figure out all the controls it'll be more fun.

@papatoony Well, the first few days are very tutorial ridden. I think people who played the first game havea slight advantage, though.
And yeah, it is expensive. I got mine for 42 bucks.

i hope pikmin 2 comes out for wii eventually =S. it came out in pretty much every other country =(. i hope it comes out when pikmin 3 comes out ... but if i see it in stores i will instantly buy it no matter what system its on. i just don't get why they release the first one on wii but not the second one. well if they are going to make pikmin2 for the wii later i guess we will have to wait a year or two for it AND pikmin3

do you live in north america? because if you don't then that makes sense because it never came out for wii in north america or i would already have this game.North america doesn't even have a release date for the wii virsion =( but if you do have it and you got it in North america and its in english how did you get it?

@poefred999 Oh my mistake then. I live in Europe. If I were you I would just buy the gamecube version on internet. That's probably the easiest way. The wii controls are good, but it doesn't really add anything to the game. It's just as fun with the gamecube (I have both versions).

I love the first Pikmin, but I was a tad let down by the second. Too much of the second game takes place underground, and call me crazy but.....I sorta missed the 30 day limit from the original. The 30 day limit served as a driving force that kept the tension high, and made sure that you used your time strategically, but since the second game had no day limit, it felt a little too laid back and tame. I still love Pikmin 2, but I still prefer the original.

I think it wasn't the 30 day limit that made the game short, it was the fact that there wasn't alot of items in the first game. You only needed to collect 25 ship parts in 30 days, and you could sometimes collect 2 or 3 a day. While the second game made you collect around 80-90 treasures. There just wasn't enough to collect in the first game, and that is why it is short.

thats true but even if you don't find all the items the longest that gameplay can possibly be is about 7 1/2 hours. *except for the first day, cutscenes, if you replayed the levels or if you play the challenge mode.*

I always wanted to play this game but it was always tricky to find were I lived. I do have the original though and it was really enjoyable.
I hope that they will make a Wii version of this one like they did with the original, the newer controls are really great for this type of game. ;)

FINNALY! I Finnaly got a working copy and the game is sooo awesome but if I rate this on a scale on 1 to 10 it would be a solid 10/10 :) and of cors if it were a scale of 1 to 5 solid 5/5 ^_^
