The constitution says I don't have to get permission from the ATF or anyone to have anything arms related. One must understand our unique birth as a nation. Our nation is exceptional, because we — unlike any nation before or since — are united by the belief and the promise that no king, no government, no ruling class has the power to infringe upon the rights of the individual. And when such a government attempts to do so, we will vigorously reject them. We need to fix our laws.
@whitey211 If your a sniper you're not really making rapid movements while stalking. They spend most of their time surveying while concealed. With all that said it takes about a minute to change the barrel. If a sniper gets into the shit in an emergency situation (being spotted) he will likely reposition or resort to his m16 for suppressive fire. The purpose of the sniper rifle and different barrels isn't for high paced combat which isn't their role in the first place.
I own a .338 Lapua Windrunner 30" barrel that will out shoot that piece of junk any day of the week. Shit...... I will out shoot their 50 cal too! Cheapo Barret guns. You get what you pay for. If your going to shoot long. Spend the money on a GREAT gun and optics. You will understand what great guns are!
@dorksayswhat The Barrett costs more, than your rifle and when we shot it last year held 3/8 MOA , and is lighter. So stop talking shit. I know everyone always thinks whatever they have is the best out there but you don't have to knock a great rifle just because you don't have one. I trust my life to anything Barrett makes.
It would be nice if I could actually hear what the guy was saying, what was he thinking. Oh well, nice gun though. It's just too bad the Savage 110BA .338LM with its 26" barrel will out shoot it for only $2000! That's embarrassing, good job Barrett; way to fail and miss your mark by producing yet again another range limiting short barrel gun. That being said, the interchangeability of the calibre and the adjustability of the stock is what does make this gun fit the bill for it's price tag,
Why in gods name did Barrett only put a 24.5 inch barrel on this otherwise perfect rifle? that was just fucking stupid! the .338lm should have a 26 inch barrel at minimum! best results are with 28 inch to 30 inch barrels. common barrett make a longer .338lm barrel!!
@Nater245689 uhhh, the accuracy international website says the AX has the same barrel as the aw series, n thats 27 inches, genius. you can put a short barrel on if you want, but you loose 150 - 250 feet/sec per inch. btw, the ax barrel is listed as 27 inch. but the aw i shot at the range had a 29 inch barrel.
@Nater245689 you typed Yeah? Then how come the new Accuracy International AX338 only uses a 20" barrel?
Each job or area needs something different. 14 16 20 24 inch barrels etc. Phillipeno Marines use a 24inch barrel M16 designated as a PSG1. US Marines use 20inch M16 with a 1/7 twist rate (62 grain is for a 1/9 i believe they used 1/7 for tracers since tracers are 68. 1/7 is 77grain use) US Marine snipers were using a Remington 700 with a 24 inch barrel designated as a M24. different needs..
Barrett's test result found the sweet spot was @ 24.5 and as they went from 27 down to 24.5 not much velocity was lost but moving down to 22 they lost a significant amount of velocity. @ 24.5 it remains supersonic performance @ 1500 meters anyway so there u go.
@gabriel338lapua seems like its a "transport gun" like he said. most of them come with at least your 26" barrel. Why they didn't put it on this model is beyond me..this is for the guy to say "hey guess what i have?" That's my opinion
Or you could just buy a Savage 110 BA for 1/3 the price and get better accuracy and all the MRAD crap included. I love Barrett Rifles but they are way over priced because of Government contracts. Like I say if the US Military uses it then you can bet the US taxpayer is getting stiffed.
@DeArmeStudent When you are talking about sniper rifles that will shot .3mrad vertical dispersion at 1.5km, you're talking about expensive, precision machines. This isn't your daddy's Model 70 with a $150 TruGlo on it. You're looking at $4k to $6k for a rifle then another $3k to $5k for the optic.

What's the point of the "quick change" barrels? It doesn't seem like it would be useful in actual combat (takes too long).
