Frankly, I think if you are going to allow your dog to live indoors, docking is a good idea. Especially a large dog like a Weimaraner. We also have a Cane Corso whose tail is docked, and I am thankful. It prevents them from knocking over objects in our home, repeatedly whipping us with their tail, and accidently stepping on the tail or closing it in a door.
FYI, you don't "have to dock their tail" in the US, but most people do. The original reason for docking was to prevent injury to working dogs. In recent years it has become more cosmetically motivated.
Mine loves to stare at me in mirrors. It's the only time she'll try to stalk/sneak up on me. She's "special." Her tail was docked when I rescued her, but I am against it personally.
I had a mirror in the back of my closet, and when my weim was a pup, every time I opened the closet she ran in to look at herself. I think she may have thought there was another dog hiding in there!
nice to see the tail hasn't been lopped, we got a weimaraner just over a year ago and she has a beautiful tail aswell, doesn't react to mirrors though!
no sir that is just for show. I guess they think it makes them prettier. Has nothing to do with the fact that this dog is in a class all their own. Mines has his tail too. The long-haired ones have full tails as well And it has nothing to do with making the hunt better either. Their plenty of dogs in the working/sporting group with tails. Sorry if I went on a rant, I just love my dog the way he is...deadly tail, big feet, and a big personality to match. lol
They have past a law in NY(if you dont know) about tail docking. Basically if the tail is not dock by a vet it is against the law. It is consider cutting off a limb. Dah..that what you are doing in the first place. I can understand getting a dog neuter/spayed...but I still cannot understand cutting the tail. In the AKC rules a weimy with a tail is automatic fault..now aint that some mess!? So what you are telling me is since my dog has a tail he can't be shown in your show..wow
@soccergalrox96 if you live in america you have to dock their tail unless your state has a ban against it. if you dont then it was the breeders choice to dock it.
You sound like herbert the pervert out of family guy no offence.

It is now illegal for any dog to have its tail docked at all in Australia. Whether they be for show or not.
