Great project but the money might have been better spent on voluntary contraception funding which reduces the population in high consumption per capita regions. Choosing to have one less child (and having access to voluntray contraception) has 20 times more impact on reducing emissions than any other environmental action someone can take in their entire lives (see OSU paper on family planning and environment).

So, maybe 100% of scientists are agreeing that all planets are getting warmer but not all of them are agreing that is for the same reason and in the same percentage. Beautiful pictures, but they show only the last couple of miles out of many hundreds. Glaciers are viscous flows with highly variable speed, and the speed at the front (as well as the front's position) is determined by everything that happened along the glacier's entire length (and inside the inland snow heap feeding it) during millenia. Go to googlearth and watch the uniformly parallel streaks of crushed rock on the glacier's surface stretchng all the way from the source to the seashore.
Great points! I noticed he didn't get the pictures of all the fresh water snow being dumped on the backside of that Greenland glacier that's causing it to flow at a faster rate either. Regarding the Alaskan glaciers, there have been human artifacts found UNDER them, which means that glacier itself caused a "catastrophe" to whoever was living there; they apparently did what we need to do - adjust:)

I'm not strictly a skeptic but I find this self-claim-scientist photographer extremely arrogant & unhelpful. The worst climate defenfing speech I i ever seen for years and I can't believe TED invite this kind of person to talk . his 20 minutes talk speech can is full of self-claimed proof, not even science, like: "Climate change has been proved for age, only $%&*( people stil debate about it. I have to laugh at all the armchair experts on this forum. The graph going back 400,000 years is, as he says, "bombproof." Also, the rapid retreat of 95% of all glaciers outside of Antactica is irrefutable. And that's not to mention that every major science academy on the planet has endorsed the concept of anthropgenic warming. It's way past time to argue about the causes and time to find solutions.
I believe that what we are doing as far as emitting CO2 is causing climate change, but why only show the summer months during the alaskan glacier time-lapse melting? Shock and awe based on crafty framing of these events is not something we should depend on to convince people that this is a problem...
Clearly you are a person of zero academic ability. Have a look again at the time lapse of the Columbia glacier - it runs through a two year time frame, inc the winter months (2007 - 2009). Also the Iceland glacier time-lapse, starts and ends in winter months (starts March, runs through two years and ends February). Do your homework before casting an opinion!

Those other peaks are caused by cyclical changes in things like the tilt and orientation of earth's axis respective to the sun, the periodic change in ellipticality of earth's orbit, and the sun's sun-spot cycle, which we can all predict with relative precision. The peak we're seeing now does not match that pattern. Plus, we know roughly how much of the greenhouse gasses we're pumping into the atmosphere simply by measuring it.

It is normal to some degree but not to this degree when in 75 minutes there is a humongous chunk of ice being dumped into the ocean. And you need to consider what was going on at the other end of the glacier to cause it to increase its flow. He didn't cover that in the video, did he? He only covered this end of the story. Or what was going on under and above the glacier to cause the accelerated flow. There is more flowing water underneath the ice, lubricating the flow, and there's less ice accumulating on top of the glacier, making it lighter. Lighter, more slippery = faster glacier.

Well, in fact, human activity is estimated to produce some 6 billion tons of CO2 but other processes on Earth produce 200 billion tons, rendering anything humans produce as almost irrelevant. That's it. There is no reason to do anything, nor can anything be done, especially in ignorance of geophysical processes and dynamics. Great project but the money might have been better spent on voluntary contraception funding which reduces the population in high consumption per capita regions. Choosing to have one less child (and having access to voluntray contraception) has 20 times more impact on reducing emissions than any other environmental action someone can take in their entire lives (see OSU paper on family planning and environment).

For those that believe that the global temperatures have been rising due to changes in solar radiation. The Satellites at the World Radiation Center concludes that there has been no increase in solar irradiance since 1978. Meaning in the last 30 yrs, when temperatues have been rising fastest, the sun has shown no trend. I encourage skeptics to look at the evidence themselves on PMOD.

My problem with this presentation is: Just because you see ice melting and glaciers receding, that doesn't mean that this is caused by CO2 emissions.
It's a complex topic, I've read books about it. Just one nugget of info here: He purposely excludes the Antarctic. The interesting thing is that the antarctic is about 94% of the ice shield, and it's currently *growing*.

New research by NASA's gravity measurement satellites suggests that the Antarctic ice mass is shrinking. Google East Antarctic Ice Sheet Mass. East Antarctica is the scary one; it is on land.

That's the same graph Al Gore used to mislead people. The CO2 lags behind temperature by about 600 to 800 years. It's the rise in temperature that causes CO2 to rise as well. CO2 follows temperature. The effects of climate change does not mean CO2 causes it as pointed out by MikeRegalia.

Very interesting and good documentary, however simply making all cars electric is not going to help matters much.
Consider closing every major factory, every oil rig, grounding every plane, removing electricity, pretty much moving back to the stone age.
The planet used to run fine on its own, but modern humans will not survive in such conditions. We can either stop everything we live off, or eventually launch ourselves into a world of famine and poverty.
Either way, we are all fucked.

So, maybe 100% of scientists are agreeing that all planets are getting warmer but not all of them are agreing that is for the same reason and in the same percentage. @BomaBoi 1% (one percent!!!) of those who signed the list have a background in climatology. About 5% have a background in atmospheric science. And even those 5% are questionable. There a lot of names on that petition whose backgrounds cannot be checked in any way. When you give out Monckton as your reliable source... this really shows how much you know. Why believing NASA when you can believe a guy who was hosted in popular science shows such as the glenn beck and alex jones show...

The e-mails at CRU (Climate Research Unit). a main researching hub for the IPCC, were hacked. The hacked e-mails revealed that the CRU falsified data to fit a "global warming" trend for the CO2 emission/temperature increase in the past century. THEY LIED!! Climate gate proves the lies about anthropomorphic global warming.

Lord Christopher Monckton, John Coleman (founder of the weather channel). CO2 makes up less than .0001% atmo. Cap and trade taxes businesses for billions. Food prices go up.. 100,000+ die because of malnutrition/starvation. I dont think it is worth it =(

However, I believe these innovations have to happen in the market place, NOT from government intervention and ESPECIALLY not from government sanctions (cap and trade) on business. We have nothing to do with it. Basic grade school science: Rotation of the planet on its axis, tilt of the earth, distance from the sun, and orbit of the planet around said sun. Beautiful pictures, but they show only the last couple of miles out of many hundreds. Glaciers are viscous flows with highly variable speed, and the speed at the front (as well as the front's position) is determined by everything that happened along the glacier's entire length (and inside the inland snow heap feeding it) during millenia. Go to googlearth and watch the uniformly parallel streaks of crushed rock on the glacier's surface stretchng all the way from the source to the seashore.

Great points! I noticed he didn't get the pictures of all the fresh water snow being dumped on the backside of that Greenland glacier that's causing it to flow at a faster rate either. Regarding the Alaskan glaciers, there have been human artifacts found UNDER them, which means that glacier itself caused a "catastrophe" to whoever was living there; they apparently did what we need to do - adjust:)

1. Carbon Dioxide is a PRODUCT of temperature change, not a cause.
2. The warmer it gets, the more polar bears there are.
3. The temperature on earth is primarily dictated by the sun. We are currently entering a cooling period.
4. C02, the main concern in this debate, is a primary fuel for life. The more C02, the more plants that can grow and thrive.
5. The attempts to change public perception by using chemtrails to dissipate air moisture causing cities to warm up won't help you.

The over all temperature is dropping. Yes the ice is melting and has been for a long time. Leave some ice in a cup and see what happens to it. It will melt without any help from you...

I have to laugh at all the armchair experts on this forum. The graph going back 400,000 years is, as he says, "bombproof." Also, the rapid retreat of 95% of all glaciers outside of Antactica is irrefutable. And that's not to mention that every major science academy on the planet has endorsed the concept of anthropgenic warming. It's way past time to argue about the causes and time to find solutions.

I believe that what we are doing as far as emitting CO2 is causing climate change, but why only show the summer months during the alaskan glacier time-lapse melting? Shock and awe based on crafty framing of these events is not something we should depend on to convince people that this is a problem...

Clearly you are a person of zero academic ability. Have a look again at the time lapse of the Columbia glacier - it runs through a two year time frame, inc the winter months (2007 - 2009). Also the Iceland glacier time-lapse, starts and ends in winter months (starts March, runs through two years and ends February). Do your homework before casting an opinion!

global warming and temperature fluctuation are 2 different things.Global warming is cause by human pollution while temperature fluctuation is just the cycle of how the earth runs. How can global warming NOT effect human civilizations, when we're already being effected by it right now. 1 example, hurricanes. Hurricanes are being stronger because the temperature of the sea has risen and now we're suffering from it shown by the death tolls from recent hurricanes.

Wouldn't it be logical then to assume that this is just another natural occurring peak, and that it is nearly, if not inevitable?

No, it's not. Those other peaks are caused by cyclical changes in things like the tilt and orientation of earth's axis respective to the sun, the periodic change in ellipticality of earth's orbit, and the sun's sun-spot cycle, which we can all predict with relative precision. The peak we're seeing now does not match that pattern. Plus, we know roughly how much of the greenhouse gasses we're pumping into the atmosphere simply by measuring it.

It is normal to some degree but not to this degree when in 75 minutes there is a humongous chunk of ice being dumped into the ocean. Those people on the video are REAL scientists who have real education and preform real experiments... not some douche-bags who read a lot of bullshit on the internet and consider that as real knowledge.

bamboocha923-do not confuse the calving with melting. The melting took a great deal longer than 75 minutes; it took many years. And you need to consider what was going on at the other end of the glacier to cause it to increase its flow. He didn't cover that in the video, did he? He only covered this end of the story. A little lopsidded, don't you think?

There are a lot of scientist who support global warming theory and those who dont. Last week I went to a seminar on my university and the conclusion was that it is a hoax. Then, the profesor who had the seminar, was being accused for missguiding people with incomplete data by some other guy. The truth is that we dont know... yet

woow, this is straight in the hearth... In a few years I will have a masters degree in civil engineering but you cant debate with all those smart people claiming that 911 was a controlled demolition. Coz, they know and I am a dumbass who is spending almost all his time learning the science of civil engineering. Same things go for global warming. Most of the conspiracy theorist will say that these things are very simple and provide you with false or incomplete information which you gladly swallow

my point is: If you dont have a proper education and a proper job, dont debate over certain topics with people with some information you heard/rad/seen that is (probably) not 100 percent truth, accurate or verified. And please, dont insult people you dont know when you run out of proper responses, just admit that you could be wrong or at least be more thorough.

Or what was going on under and above the glacier to cause the accelerated flow. There is more flowing water underneath the ice, lubricating the flow, and there's less ice accumulating on top of the glacier, making it lighter. Lighter, more slippery = faster glacier.
