I plan to aquascape a 10 gallon breeding tank for Celestial Pearl Danios. The idea is to use a small school of just 5 fish max, probably only 3 (1 male and 2 female), from as many different bloodlines as I can find and use Java Moss (I know that's a must), some form of carpet greenery to hide eggs, and floating plants for fry to hide in. What carpet growth do you recommend that doesn't need CO2 or EXTREME Halogen lighting like I'm trying to grow a mini lily?

What gravel do you have? How much money did you spend on the hair grass, also does it grow fast? Do they need the C02? Is there a way to make one because they're really expensive? I have live plants in my tank at the moment, but that's stunning. My tanks 16 gallons, how much would it cost to fill it with the hair grass and dwarf riccia, do you need certain lighting also, can you give some basic stuff on how to look after those plants.
They don't turn to slime, you probably see slime growing on there, that is a type of algae, just cut back on light and it should go away or you can use that thing that gets rid of algae, forget what it's called, you put it in your water.
inadequate lighting.... no CO2.... if youre using AZOO liquid carbon, its known to kill riccias and mosses... or another reason could be snails snacking on your plant
Well done for maintaining such a challenging aquarium in such a fine looking way, your choice of what to put in must be very limited. I can only think of neons, harlequins and those tiny bottom feeders as candidates for such a small space.
That is quite magnificent, how did you get that foreground plant (Clovers or dwarf tears?) to coat the whole bed like that? It really is stunning, great job!
@gf225 Its a bit on the tiny size for fish, why not those little mini tropical shrimp? Its perfect for a couple of them shrimp you know. It does look nice with the plants and all, I give you that for sure. Was this to show what can be done with the tank or are you really keeping those fish in there? I mean, you have to change 50% of the water every other day due to the fish ;)
what brand tank is this? and what co2 system are you using? and what is the gravel?

filtration??
FredKiller32 1 year ago
@FredKiller32 Not sure how much filtration is needed in a tank that is so densely planted. I think the plants do a lot of filtration.

algol :) although i doubt it effectivally removes the direct cause of algae growth
minishakey 1 year ago
when there is insufficient light and nutrients in the water the plants die and algae cover them when this happen its eventually turns into slime.

Esthetics are truly nice.
But the real art is how to house such small fish in an area this limited. Now even these fishes are limited in their behaviour and living space.

what do you call the grass like thing on the bottom of your tank?
and where do you get it?
doodj 4 years ago
Thanks.
I change 50% water every other day and add 1ml Tropica Nutrition+ Liquid. There is also pressurized CO2 injection.
If you search youtube for "Practical Fishkeeping nano", you'll see the complete set up running.
Cheers,
George Farmer
