I was age 15 at that time and was actually at this performance,June 14th,1986.They were opening for OZZY.He was on the Ultimate Sin tour.Great show.
In my opinion Metallica sort of died with Cliff. I still respect them, but they haven't made anything as good as Ride The Lightning or Master Of Puppets since.
I was there too..Was in high school working as an usher at the Long Beach Arena...never heard of these guys until that show.....I was a big Ozzy fan at that point but quickly became a Metallica fan
Last post was suppose to be a reply to the another comment about the guy dying, but it didn't go below it. A little more detail, so I thought I'd leave it.
I was at this concert!! First of 6 times I've seen them... and might have been the best! Blew Ozzy away... I'm sure he grew tired of coming on after them- ha ha. I was in the first row of the balcony right above where this picture was taken. Guy died right behind this pic as well trying to jump from the balcony to the grandstand below. Of course the press blamed it on Ozzy (suicide BS), but it happened when Metallica was on stage.
Fuck! You must be in the age of fourty or something. And you still love metal right? That's respect guys! I wish I could be born way earlier, and be a part of the big wave of these metal bands.
I know. I feel the same way. I feel like I've been cheated, being born in this shitty age, right after the deaths of some great bands... vidzrus, you lucky bastard. XD
Yes, i was there for the 14th and the 15th. I actually ended up front row standing on a broken chair. Ozzy was in rare form as well. On one of the 3 nights some kid died by jumping off the balcony, i dont know if anybody remember that.
Hey, just put this in my comment as well about the guy dying... I was in the balcony 1st row right above where this picture was taken. Three or four seats from the aisle where the guy jumped from, saw him lying on the ground for several minutes with blood around his head before anyone got to him. Sad. Then the press blamed it on Ozzy... the whole suicide thing. Ridiculous, it happened when Metallica was playing.
I went to this concert at the Long Beach arena the next day, sunday june 15.Still got the old ticket stub. The ticket stub reads.. "OZZY OSBOURNE with special guest METALLICA"..only paid $17.50 for the ticket. There was a group of guys who brought in those little red firecrackers and were lighting a whole sections at a time and throwing them into the crowd below when metallica started playing..I thought it was hilarious at the time..
Hey thanks vidzrus,I dont remember the chairs getting smashed although I remember getting smashed, that's for sure..lol..Those were the days!! thanks take care..debbie
I saw something on youtube w/ James recently saying shit like "I don't know what happened to us..." hahaha! "I don't know why we do the things we do..." "It's not the same any more"
Holy FUCK! I was at this show! I have always wanted to see footage or at least hear this. Not only did they not play this the first night, this was the FIRST time they ever played the song live. I distinctly remember Hetfield saying that. Thanks for the post!
oh yeah it was pure mahem, people were running back and forth, along the ailways with half spilled beers or banging there heads on the bars,i think the best way to describe it,"EARTHQUAKE"this concert created security jobs at long beach ,thanks for the memories!

Damn, this makes the grade. Fuckin awesome!!!
Y'know, that's what made Metallica - the aggression.
I wish they would get angry again, they're like so lovey with the crowd. Back in the day Hetfield would be all fuck - shit - fuck this - motherfucker.
Now it's all "We love you, this feels great"
I mean i'm sure it does, but shit, metal was about aggression. Fuck shit motherfucker!!!!
