This fixes nothing... The kids that don't want to smoke won't smoke. EVEN if you make it legal for them to buy. The ones who DO smoke weren't even advertised to and I can almost guarantee that they stole their first from their parents. That's what happened to me and my friends and now we make our own choices. Also, the reason I said 'eradicated' is that, like you said, marijuana kills. I accept that, and I'm pretty sure most people who are taking it are aware of that. That's their choice. The only time people should control that is when they endanger others. This is where everyone treads a fine line. We will never have a perfect society, unless we revert to a 1984-type system. That would be nice, but I think this will go like the 'War on Drugs'....$5 Trillion tax payer dollars spent, 3 times the amount of drugs on the street and 5 times the drug crime as a result.
Well heck, just make ALL drugs legal. Then the crime dissappears because its no longer a crime to use them! AND you save all that money that USED to go to enforcement! ITS GENIUS.
On the other hand, who knows how many lives (and by extension, money) have been saved by the laws? Many counties (like mine) have programs that get help for addicts. The catch is, they can't help them unless they're arrested for drug possession first. These laws aren't useless, and they aren't simply money sinks.

Just arresting someone doesn't solve the problem, you can't help people who don't want help. Treatment programs are great, for people who willingly choose to fight their addiction(s). Drug cartels push drugs to kids, create stronger addicting drugs, buy off police, murder, steal, and rape; this is the crime created when we make something illegal that still has market demand. The laws have saved lives, but the cartels have done 100 fold the damage. Legalizing drugs would cut their hearts out.

Lives aren't saved by drug laws when nonviolent drug offenders go to jail. It's a waste of money and the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Instead maybe we should put that money into creating more treatment programs that have the capacity to actually help people. If they're driving high, fine give them a DUI, but incarcerating someone for years for getting less fucked up than they would off of a bottle of Jack Daniel's is ridiculous.

This fixes nothing... The kids that don't want to smoke won't smoke. EVEN if you make it legal for them to buy. The ones who DO smoke weren't even advertised to and I can almost guarantee that they stole their first from their parents. That's what happened to me and my friends and now we make our own choices. Just like we did when we were 15-16. Teenagers will make their own decisions which, unfortunately, often are againist the law. Don't blame "Big Tobacco" Blame the parenting

I'd like to know where all these advertisements are. I've lived on the west coast and on the east coast, and in either place, I have never seen a single billboard, or commercial or advertisement anywhere for Tobacco. In fact all I see are anti tobacco ads.
He claims that hes letting adults make their own decisions but hes not. Hes getting rid of cloves there are many adult that smoke only cloves.
As far as flavored cigs, Those are easy to make all by yourself. You don't need to buy them.

Now to you fucking dictators, shut the fuck up and worry about your own - stop trying to push your missed guided morals backed up by no facts on everyone else. Weed does NOT kill, it's actually healthy for you. Weed does NOT effect your motor body skills, in fact it enhances your physical performance (hence why it's considered a performance enhancer in most sports and Olympics - but still don't drive a car) Weed does not make you a lazy slob, you being lazy a lazy slob makes you a lazy slob.

Also, the reason I said 'eradicated' is that, like you said, marijuana kills. I accept that, and I'm pretty sure most people who are taking it are aware of that. That's their choice. The only time people should control that is when they endanger others. This is where everyone treads a fine line. We will never have a perfect society, unless we revert to a 1984-type system. There's no middle ground. Should we let people kill themselves? That's a whole other topic.

Are you serious?! Clove cigarettes only account for less than 4% of US tobacco sales. It was the BIG tobacco companies that lobbied for this bill in the first place. Obama signed a bill HELPING big tobacco!

Google "Legacy Tobacco Documents Library" a database at the UC San Francisco. There you will find internal tobacco company documents once secret, but now public on hazards of smoking, importance of targeting the youth, tactics used to circumvent controls etc.

That would be nice, but I think this will go like the 'War on Drugs'....$5 Trillion tax payer dollars spent, 3 times the amount of drugs on the street and 5 times the drug crime as a result.

Well heck, just make ALL drugs legal. Then the crime dissappears because its no longer a crime to use them! AND you save all that money that USED to go to enforcement! ITS GENIUS.
On the other hand, who knows how many lives (and by extension, money) have been saved by the laws? Many counties (like mine) have programs that get help for addicts. The catch is, they can't help them unless they're arrested for drug possession first. These laws aren't useless, and they aren't simply money sinks.

Just arresting someone doesn't solve the problem, you can't help people who don't want help. Treatment programs are great, for people who willingly choose to fight their addiction(s). Drug cartels push drugs to kids, create stronger addicting drugs, buy off police, murder, steal, and rape; this is the crime created when we make something illegal that still has market demand. The laws have saved lives, but the cartels have done 100 fold the damage. Legalizing drugs would cut their hearts out.

Lives aren't saved by drug laws when nonviolent drug offenders go to jail. It's a waste of money and the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Instead maybe we should put that money into creating more treatment programs that have the capacity to actually help people. If they're driving high, fine give them a DUI, but incarcerating someone for years for getting less fucked up than they would off of a bottle of Jack Daniel's is ridiculous.

@qwertpoi I think everyone should have the right to choose what they want to take/use/smoke etc. Everyone knows cigarettes are bad for you but if you want to damage your lungs you should have the right to despite of age. I've seen more mature 15 year old's than 18 year old's.

it isn't a kids smoking bill. it's an unconstitutional attack on civil liberties that will be repealed shortly. once i win election, freedom to smoke tobacco will become the next amendment. it' won't be long and your whole agenda to tax up a storm will be defeated. so go ahead and take our guns away so the republicans will turn out en masse and vote the dems out of office

I am 18 and i still cant attain alcohol easily.
All through middle and high school i could attain illegal drugs extremely easily, while alcohol and tobacco were hard to get

Left handed people have higher IQ than right handed people. I read somewhere, even before Obama was nominated, that Obama had a very high IQ. Dont remember what it was, but it was lots higher than bush or Cliton. I just tried to google for it, but couldnt.

Saying that left handed people have higher IQs than right handed people is inaccurate. Some evidence suggests that the AVERAGE IQ of left handed people may be higher. This is not the same as saying "left handed people have higher IQ." Just as white people on average score higher on IQ tests than black people, this does not in any way mean that every white person will score higher than every black person. Sets of scores from both groups overlap substantially.
