I can't imagine why anybody would import a 380SL unless it has already been updated with the 2X timing chain. There are still lots of 560's around like mine that are pretty cheap now with the depressed economy. The only reason I would ever go to the trouble of finding one overseas was if it was cherry and had the 5 spd manual tranny unavailable in the U.S.

I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Benz Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!

You don't know whta you're talkin' about: The original headlamps are the european ones, not the version adapted for USA, the double-round headlamps, that ones are so ugly that the hole car seems ugly, and is the most beautiful Mercedes ever built. Change it, change it know!

I agree both on the remarks concerning headlamps and bumpers. I have a silver US -72 350SL 4.5. Love it.

The USA headlamps are MUCH better then the originals!!! Keep them on your car please, don't listen to this guy he doesn't know anything! I am German, but I think the USA W107 Mercedes is MUCH NICER! Okay, the bumpers are not nice...
