  • Hi. this gig was the first time I had heard alice live since tnc/forum with Layne dirt tour. overcome hearing the songs again. grt set list. strangers hugged eachother n sang along to Junkhead etc.. people knowing how to mosh in time. been to every aic ldn gig since. now feel we appreciated duval as temp and bringing back memories but not full time. pains me to say he is not fit for purpose. he has no inner turmoil to draw on maybe? confusion, i cant remember and died ..my favs. RIP LS & MS

  • Hetfield sings this song better

  • I take back all the negative things I said before. BGW2B is my album of the year. One of the reasons I'm pleased with its outcome is Jerry, if I'm not mistaken sings more than William, whom I admit is better than I thought. I don't see any harm with letting him sing more on their next album, but I hope they don't have him play as big a role as Layne did if he's planning to promote CWTF. I still miss Layne but it's childish not to support his former bandmates 'cuz he's not with them anymore.

  • William's involvement with AIC is really not all that different from when Layne joined Mad Season. It may not be entirely similar but that means it's not entirely different either. And I find the similarities actually outweight the differences.

  • it sounds on here like the crowd is singing it for him

  • wtf is this

  • its easy to replace anyone else in a band exept for the lead singer, no wonder it took them like ten years AIC will always be the best!!

  • that and Jerry had to wait out some legal mumbo jumbo to play Layne's songs. And to anyone that says "no layne, no chains" You guys are ignorant douchebags. I think William DuVall is a great lead singer and fits in real well with Alice in Chains. Queen is still Queen with Paul Rogers. Now they just play Bad Company songs along with the Queen material.

  • I don't dislike DuVall. But the intensity of this song isn't what it was. Layne was fuckin intense live.

  • I was there and hearing AIC songs live with Jerry and Co was amazing really was and William sang like a ledge laybe would be proud

  • I hate gigs like this where the audience drowns out the band with out-of-tune wailing trying to "singalong". This is AIC live ... NOT karaoke. People suck.

  • wow... thats just about the sadest thing i think ive ever heard

  • fuck duvall

  • This new album won't be the same. DuVall is a good vocalist and I have no doubt about that. But AIC's songs were based on the struggle of Layne's life (Among other things of course). The new album will be a much different Alice in Chains than we all are used to.

  • Jerry, Sean, and Mike have every right to keep calling themselves AIC if that is their choice. But still, it's not the same band to me without Layne.

  • pat smear (the touring guitarist for nirvana) is also the lead guitarist for foo fighters... so thats 2 things the foo fighters has to do with nirvana but thats about it. Also, horrible sounding song, but can't expect clean pristine vocals without layne lol.

  • they are no more alice... without layne...

  • amen no layne no chains

  • thank you....layne staley was aic....no layne no alice in chains and i dont give a fuck what anyone says

  • ha ha i feel like im watching a drunken nite at a hillbilly karioke bar

  • Pat Smear hasn't been the guitarist for Foo Fighters since 1997

  • Perhaps they should change the bans name, but at the same time why should they? after all only one member changed. I see lot of bands with even huge changes.

I still love Layne's voice and i will always be grateful for his music and for the great moments i've lived through his voice.

But...i do understand why they want to continue with AIC. I believe they will respect Layne's legacy precisely because they will try to honour Alice in Chains.

    R.I.P Layne

    and long live AIC.

  • AC/DC didn't change their name when bon scott died. They're the band that inspired Jerry to pick up the guitar; even more inspirational to him now because they continued and rocked. I don't think the band will sound terribly different either, since Jerry was the main songwriter.

  • Duvall can come pretty close. Unlike a lot of bands like queen they can get a new singer

  • i think they should call it another band and move on. it's very disrespectfu to their passed frontman.

  • duvall should be careful with that mic so he doesn't poke a hole in his afro!

  • seems like everyone who enjoys listening to duvall have absolutely NO sympathy for drug users. seems duvall is bringing the sober fans from his old band with him. you're all a disgrace to the lyrics in this band.

  • I'm seeing Alice In Chains in February.

    i hope its good.

My brother just put a battery in my mouth

  • Comment removed

  • William Duvall has the same routine for every performance: hop in place, wave arms and sing like shit.

The band could do sooo much better than this guy.

  • layne staley was brilliant theres no denying it but william duvall is good aswell and he fits well in the band

  • I dont think duvall is as bad as everyone makes him out to be, Layne Staley is one of those irreplaceable singers. and duvall could never fill his shows. BUT i think he does a pretty good job and is a good singer. Stop your whining, youll never have another staley. deal with it. i for one think its going to be fucking awesome seeing these guys live in febuary, RIP LAYNE

  • I think you're exactly right.

Duvall's pretty damn good. And I look forward to Alice In Chains new album.

  • @themuffler just say them live thursday duvall does an amazing job at singing the classic chains songs, sounds so much like layne its crazy. Alice In Chains is back baby!

  • In the end... Layne is dead. He was a smackhead who selfishly killed himself. It's not like the world did not fucking try to help him. My dad was a smackhead and he is dead noe too. I am pissed off at him every day as he never gets to see his grandkids, but that's just the way that drug addiction goes.

That said, I am just glad that AIC is back and I really dig on William. I think he is god for the band and as blaspemous as it may be to say, I think he is a better singer than Layne.

  • fuck you no one is better then layne behind the mic and why dont you read laynes lst interview when he says about how fucked up his body is and how sick he is then say about how selfish he is you prick drug addiction is a disease just like cancer aids or anything else so let the man rest in peace

  • He WAS selfish. Many folks tried to help Layne, but all he did was push them all away so that he could kill himself. Left someone else to find his dead, partially decomposed body. That IS a selfish act. HE decided to do drugs. HE decided not to take the help that was offered, and HE paid the price for it. Why should the surviving members of AiC and the fans be denied their music because of HIS selfish act. Like I said, my dad was an addict. I am INTIMAMATELY familiar with the disease!

  • the disease is selfish, but it blinds you. In a way it's ironic to call it selfish because self preservation is the ultimate selfish act and addiction is the antithesis of self preservation.

HE LOST HIMSELF, and therefore the person pushing away the loved ones really was'nt him at all. He was already all but dead.

  • You'll never meet a bigger fan of Layne's than me, but I've seen AIC live with Layne and with William, and I have to say that William's vocals are VERY strong live! He sang more on key than Layne did in some shows. Layne will never be replaced, but you cannot judge a singer by a bad audio live bootleg.

  • I hear Jerry, but I can't hear Duvall. It's that way in a lot of these new AIC videos. Duvall's voice doesn't cut through the music. And that stupid polka dance he does in EVERY performance is distracting and completely wrong for the type of music AIC play.

  • I agree. He just doesn't have the type of energy, passion, and stage presence this band requires. I will always support this band, but I wish Jerry would find a more appropriate singer. Between Jerry's vocals, and crowd participation, Duvall gets drowned out. He has no vocal power.

  • he's a pretty good singer that guy

i can understand why they restarted AIC, they were a phenomenal band.

  • If they ever come to New Zealand, Im going, just for the music. great music.

  • KalebsArmy is right. This guy is doing a good job - and I personally missed hearing these songs live. I'm glad that they are back with this fella.

  • William holds up well. Layne is gone face up to it!

  • William should be ashamed of himself. Anybody with a brain can see he is merely trying to capitalize on something that doesn't belong to him.

  • Man i hate your asshole comments. Ofcourse it isnt his but alice want to continue so if it has to be him. So be it. Layne was great he wont be measured just get fucking over it you complete cunt! He was asked to join the band, he loves laynes work how is that capitalizing on it. Its his tribute to him as the whole band by continuing. Now go fuck yourself !

  • If they had decided to continue as a trio like the guys from Big Country did after the passing of Stuart Adamson, I'd have no problem with that. But if they are serious about recording with Duvall, they should do it under a different name and put AIC to rest along with Layne.

  • Each to there own but it dosent really matter because its going to happen as AIC. Persoanlly which i want because i love so much of their music. Its not capitalizing man. It dosent really matter what we argue over they want it to be aic so who are we to be pissed that. Yes RIP Layne but im glad AIC will continue.

  • I don't seem them as AIC at all.

  • Well fair dues but its not like its Megadeth. Just with Dave Mustaine i can see it from that stand point. Every gig they do they play the same songs as before and contains 3 orginail members. Your probo gonna be like na actully Mike Starr was the first bassist but i dont care i really like Inez's work. Im just happy there back out there. Live they still own.

  • The way I see it, the REAL Alice in Chains are Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, and the two Mikes.

  • Fair enough same as me man, glad we reached that but i just hot about the capitlizing thing!

  • this guy does a good job and everything but it would be cool if they changed their name

layne could have ripped this guy up even when he could barely walk from the smack

  • He actually sounds pretty good

  • I think Willy is doing a decent job but remember were ALL comparing him to Layne.. How the hell can anyone compare to Layne? Even Jerry knows that. Remember he searched for and found layne and basically pulled the needle out of his arm to get him to the gig how many times??? Maybe if Willy was on that needle you all might like him too... Unfortunately DuVall's voice doesn't CUT into you deep like Layne's DID.

  • To all you ignorant posters, as a Seattlite I remember then from the very very early days.. All this "boo, bring back LS shiat" Unless you want to polish off your majic wands and impress the masses.. shut the fuck up.. WD is not LS, but he is doing fine as a frontman, atleast Chains IS still moving forward vs huddled up crying in some North King County shack..

  • yep ...I agree ..

  • I think this guy'll start getting really good when he realizes he doesn't have to try to sound exactly like layne

  • I have to say i was skeptical at first since Staley was so amazing but Duvall isn't half bad...i don't like he's a "replacement." IMO they should do a RATM-Audioslave situation where the new band makes new material...I can't imagine this guy performing the older songs much longer when the new material gets released

  • i agree with you. I think when they release the new stuff they should quit singing the old stuff. I can't stand Duvall singing the old stuff, that is for Staley.

  • god i can sing this song much better almost like layne himself i mean it fuck this guy

  • William Duvall can sing, and he can play guitar really well. I doubt you have any vocal chops at all. AIC is Jerry's band. A lot of you metalheads won't give William a chance, because 1. he's black or 2. wishing for Layne to pull a Lazarus. Ain't happening time to move on.

  • ... layne isnt coming back. this guy is ok. hes no layne, but hes ok. stop dissing him, its not his fault laynes dead. id see them in concert still if i had the chance

  • omg, kill this asshole! What are they doing? Whyyy?!?!?!?! Fuck DuVall (or something:P )

    Layne come back!

  • This dude doesnt sound at'all bad really! must agree layne 4eva

  • booooooooooo! fuck the new guy!

  • Fair comment. I just think these bands that continue when their lead singer dies, just aint right. what next, Nirvana reforming without Cobain?

  • They'd be better. Although I must say that I do think Layne is irreplaceable.

  • Nirvana is now the Foo Fighters...

  • how the fuck is nirvana now the foofighters.only 1 ex-member is there,AiC has 3

  • That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The Foo Fighters and Nirvana have nothing in common besides Dave Grohl. Alice in Chains is the same band and they're still playing AiC music.

  • RIP L.S. part of the washingtn movement...you cannot replace soundgarden, pearljam, nor Aliceinchains...great for what they gave us...thank you

  • -.-, Isn´t! AiC!!, is 3/4 AiC no more! like Anjohl says: falsified emotion

  • the band sounds great but I would not pay money to see them out of respect to Layne.

  • what about respect for jerry?

  • Anjohl, what you said would have made perfect sense but for one thing. Rooster was written by Cantrell about HIS father.

  • wasn't Rooster written about Jerry Cantrell's Dad and his experiences in the Vietnam War? Not about Layne's Dad

  • Its just that Rooster was written about Layne's dad...thats pretty personal..

  • ^ Please let me say this Goldberi..

    Fuck you.

    Thanks.

  • well said

  • It's not Alice in Chains. They should have done a tribute tour and had another vocalist fill in, someone who is already established and would love to pay tribute, kinda like a Templ of the Dog deal.

  • I think it was very brave of the remaining members of AIC to get back together and play these songs again.

Of course no-one could match Layne, so just enjoy it for what it is.

  • I support this reunion, but to see Duvall singing a song like "Rooster", with all the fans singing along just speaks volumes on consumerism and consumptionism. That song is personal to Staley, and while Duvall might do his best, and it is a "hit song", such falsified emotion, and the response by the fans is unsettling, and makes me wonder just how much of a "fan" anyone in that audience (especailly those under 25) is.

  • you were not there so shut up

  • Cantrell wrote that song. If you were such a big "fan", you'd know this..

  • WTF are you talking about, Rooster was written by Cantrell and is about his father serving in Nam, it had nothing to do with Staley; while i agree that neither Duvall or anyone else will ever replace Staley, you do have to face the fact that he aint coming back

  • whould you prefere they just never played together again?, and that all the clasic songs would never be heard live again?, as iam to young to to of seen them in the nineties it was a dream come true to see them at download and the astoria, duval has a good singing voice and does the job well. have you actually ever seen alice live?

  • There's no Alice in Chains without Layne Staley. This band makes now a "self-cover".

  • i couldn't have said it better myself. there is only one Layne Staley, and without him it just isn't the same. I have nothing personal against Duvall. On the surface, he does what he is supposed to do, but Layne had very unique charachter in his singing and nobody can replace that.

  • You've shot one of the best moments of my life. Just been sat here watching with shivers and a massive grin. that rocks \m/ Thanks!

  • I went to this. It was such an awesome gig!

  • WOW @ THIS GIG!!!

I LAUGH IN THE FACE OF ALL WHO DIDN'T MAKE IT!!!

  • What an awsome gig that was... cheers for the great video

  • Great sound Quality!

  • hell yer this gig was awsum, I cud smell Duvalls armpitt sI was so close YER
