@6digit Well you better act quick because once the carrier version of the F-35 comes around they will retire the F-18 for good, Canada will also get it batch of F-35's, so will Australia. The F-18 was probably the best fighter jet ever built (next to the F-16) but its an old tired plane, the needs to be put to rest.

I found a book mentionning a french air attack on Khadafi's army during the invasion of chad in the 80's. Very few survived of the armour force that was pounded by jaguar planes. So the zone has the south front secured by the french since then. Any american's around?

Mirage F1 is old yet but always efficient and many country are satisfied, like Maroc, LIbye ask to modernize again for this year, it do its job.

Probably, but for the price of a new Eurofighter, you can buy 5 Mirage 2000 ... either if the 2000 is "old"; just to shoot rebels hide in caves or Somalian pirates on a boat; I think you don't need all the hight technology to do that, just a simple aircraft which can carried weapons, that's all.

The Rafale is the same as the Eurofighter, f****ing lot of money, to do what ? fighting against who ? Taliban, Pirate ...

The Grippen is nice for that, cheap, and able to do multi task missions.

Iranians f 14 never saw any combat. after the fall of the shah in 1979 the US made sure iran couldn't fly thoses planes any more a year later the iraq ran war started by that time all trained iranians pilotes and rios had been killled or in exile and the planes had had no maintenance what so ever

Iranian Tomcats also hold a unique distinction. They are the only aircraft in the only aircraft/aircrew to have recorded multiple kills with single missile shots. On one occasion an IRIAF F-14 scored 3 confired and 1 probable on Iraqi MiG-23(BN?)s with a single AIM-54 off Khark island.

Because it has no choice. After the fall of the Shah wer emany planes were sabotaged and had arms embargos put in place, it could not get hold of any plane, let alone the ones its airforces uses.

I think he had absolutely no orders from his superiors or hierarchy to do that. I remember, a few years ago, to pilots who were fired because they made this kind of tricks. It seems to me it was to pilots from the french air force based in West or Central Africa. They made a video of that, and showed it to too many people.
