Wow! I've never seen Non so piu done like this before! Usually the mezzo isn't very believable as a young boy, but I had to keep telling myself that it was a woman! The costumes helped a lot with that too, but her acting was amazing!
Not that it wasn't lovely, but I wasn't enthralled with the ornamentation. I DO really appreciate the risk that she took by doing that though.
Yes, Mozart should be sung cleanly, I believe, but ornaments are in order when a piece of text is repeated. It was done in Mozart's time. Too much of it and it sounds either too Baroque or perhaps Rossinian - which both are way too into the past or future....but contrary to popular belief, Mozart CAN be ornamented, but most effectively when - as said before - a piece of text is repeated.
Out of all the ways I've seen Non so piu done, this is my absolute favorite. Incredible performing. I loved the intensity, especially at the beginning. The perplexity and vexation came through beautifully. I am impressed. I like the way I've seen it done usually, with Cherubino being mostly playful and humorous, but I love this interpretation.
Just imagine this aria sung by a man, a real man.
I don't care that it was intended for a soprano.
I would like to hear a more masculine version.
Wouldn't it be exciting?

I am so totally convinced that Cherubino is 14-year-old boy in this that it's insane to think that he is actually played by a woman.

I know, I have the same feeling... Am I the only one who can see a sock or something stuffed down her pants - 0:44? :D:D

She's very believable!! Great acting. I just don't like added ornaments in Mozart.
