Merge def won. A lot of the time, the DJ that sounds different throughout the whole evening has an edge though. Merge murdered him though. Even though he had some custom recs, that shit is hard to pull and remember.
I like I-emerge, but i like Akakabe more. Though I'm not sure if akakabe really won this. His 2nd round was kick ass, but I-emegre kicked his ass in the first round
bad bad bill was was a good high light back in 1989 humm.. i wonder if there was any videos from back in 1982 when its just a diso mix club. there show be a movie dmc. some one call duge pray. scratch needs a seequal.
Good battle........i like i emerge, but round one goes to akakabe. his routine was wicked...........i emerge cameback in round two. mutha fucker dont scratch anymore, they just juggle that techno shit............Bad
Charles from DMC let this guy get away with so much BS that year.. even at the new york supremacy a week or so later more BS.. the judges let him start over in the final round cause he fucked up, even when he was over a minute into his routine.. WHEN IT COMES TO THE DMC I-EMERGE GET SPECIAL TREATMENT..
i also saw that they let him start over in new york 2004 dmc supremacy. merge also had his own tables to practice before his main rounds. the game (and it is just a business game) for the most part is & has been rigged year after year. its no different than this year's winner, last year, and so on.
let's see what "champion" is being set up this year for their spot. 2010 already: we gonna be sheeple or people?
I also was in the 2004 USA DMC.. Merge was only guy aloud to bring his own tables to the Battle and practice on them backstage. you can ask anyone in that battle and they'll tell you the same.. I remember asking him if I could practice my set real quick on them.. he said,, " I brought these all the way from Florida". I guess that ment No! WTF is that shit..
@layzeee If you decide to bring your own turntables to practice during a competition you are taking part of, there isn't any kind of problem and nobody can prevent you from doing this simply because you are using what is yours under your own responsibility...
I think with all this custom record shit, they should just allow serato and laptops, because it would be the fucking same wouldn't it. The talent of making routines in the studio, bullshit. Prime Cuts, Craze, Woody... awesome Djs, never pressed their own wax. Iemerge scratching is off the scale mental though, so you can't say this post wasn't balanced. Thumbs down, I dare ya.
During the years when Dj's such as A-Trak, Craze, Woody, and many others took part in the battles, printed vinyl was not easy as it is today: the times have changed!
But believe me, if they had done this, the result would not change simply because we look at the skills.
If a turntablist is powerful, no matter that he uses original records or custom records.
to make it simple, ive been a battle dj for 4 and a half years now and i can totally do what akakabe does an this battle, but im nowhere near merges skills and style. seriously! hes one of the best toghether with kentaro and craze. oh and of course q-bert on the scratching-only side.
come on guys! its absolutely clear that merge won this battle, akakabe definitely went for the crowd and some how managed to win, but his set wasnt too technical or original as some of you guys claim, it sounds kinda sloppy to me, and the skipping needle problems and worn out records didnt help much. merge's style is always gonna be my favorite! he;s f'in agressive and a total show off. and his juggle is just unbeatable!
I don't really think Akakabes routines were staticky sounding...I think he brought his own creative style into the competition, and it's very good that he doesn't sound old.
i emerge took it easily.akakabe went 4 the crowd and he won em over...big deal.some judges need their head read.show some balls and go against the crowd.ak is good but that was an awful decision.
yeah akakabe had a bit of a problem with the record skipping the first round, but even still his set was alot more technical and nu skool sounding then I emerge.
Listen this is in front of a crowd...Akakabe got him... because he threw some originality in set(cuts/backscratches...etc) and mixed a bit and didn't try to be all super technical like emerge did....people were out there dancing to Akakabe...he "dumbed down" just enough to win.
I emerge killed him! When he does the second set and disses Akakabe's scratchin you see Akakabe gettin worried n he quickly starts bangin his fader in a last minute practice! Akakabe is dope but Iemerges technical scratchin wipes the floor with him i reckon. Both are still really good. Iemerge needs more funk n A needs some new records!!!! Both would beat me in a battle tho.
YeaH I agree. Akakabe did pritty fucking good though. And to be hoenst I don't think akakabe even understood that diss about his cuts homeboy is from Japan.
i agree with you..in 2nd set ie merge throws a direct shot against the oponent "you can't scratch" and akakabe just threw a set and tried to mixed it up, he was overjoyed with that one but i think ie merge was the winner here
wasn't really a direct shot considering at the time i-emerge dropped this diss, akakabe hadn't done any scratching... so pretty much it was just a generic 'you cant scratch diss', that he dropped after the opponent did a juggle...
and despite akakabe's skips, his juggle was way more tech/stylish that merge's... like merge isn't wack or anything, akakabe's just flipping some sick styles, merge was doing the same ish he always does
Dat was the best battle Ive seen,I was there backstage & all the djs were freakin out!!! LOL.Was awesome to be there, worth the 30hr flight from New Zealand.
does anyone know that record that Iemerge is scratching too on the 2nd round? I know it's some gambling battle record or something, but forgot the real name?
damn good battle.... prolly one of the best ive ever seen
iemerge no doubt destroyed but he did have customs and he just had all his tricks perfectly setup and ready for destruction... that was prolly the most greatest i have ever seen iemerge perform.. hands down fireeeee
akakabes records skip first round really bad but no doubt they're real records, not that extra skip proof coating bullshit. round 2 was incredibly so creative and fresh that he wins alone on that.
I emerge's juggles are amazingly precise! Akakabe did a great job; however, if I would've been a judge, I would give my vote to I-emerge. WTF. I mean, let us NOT judge based on our preferences.
Just pay attention to the ABSURD needle skip on akakabe right? Right. I like him too guys..BUT, something isn't fair. I-emerge should have had that.
I mean, as judges..seriously. Skill wise, merge was better, and he didnt missed a SHIT in both rounds.
Maybe niggas thought, "hey, let us kick merge out of at least one of the categories".
Mothafucka won in both USA supremacy AND SOLO. Maybe they thoght it wasn't fair...I don't know.
