  • Simply well done :-)

  • @cheesecake4365 Thanks!

  • I've watched a couple of your videos. You do a very good job explaining and demonstrating. These pillowcase dresses are adorable! This may be a silly question, but did these actually start from pillowcases and you had trimmed off the seams, or is this from scratch? Does your pattern on your website talk about using actual pillowcases? Love your videos! Than you for sharing your talents with us!

  • @khaunani Thanks! These are called "pillowcase" dresses because originally they started off being made from actual pillowcases (and a lot of people still make them that way) but this is a variation of it where you can use cute fabrics that you may never find in a pillowcase. The pattern does not mention using pillowcases but all you would need to do is create the arm holes and casing for the ties b/c everything else would be done for you. Hope that helps! :o)

  • @maddyrosew Thanks! Glad to help. :o)

  • What foot do you use for a french seam..

  • @cQuIyah1975 Just the basic universal foot that comes with your machine. :o)

  • @IllustriousDesigns Thanks! :o)

  • what size does your pattern go up to? My little girl is a size 7/8.

  • @jokellym This pattern does not come with a specific size chart. Instead, I give you a formula for you to make the appropriate dress sizes based on you having two measurements from the child. My ruffled pillowcase dress does come with charts up to Size 8.

  • i saw you on tv :) btw ur amazing!!

  • i have 6 nieces and i love sewing and this is such a Great idea! thx! =)

  • @moNster121014 Sounds like a go-to project for you with all those girls around!! Glad you enjoyed it. :o)

  • Mom: Where are the pillowcases?

    Me: uhh...I don't know...

  • @Bunnehheart LOL. This pattern is not made from actual pillowcases but it definitely can be. That style of dress is called "pillowcase dress" because it is loose-fitting in nature and is/was often made from pillowcases. The techniques I cover in the video can be applied to any pillowcase pretty much in the same manner. It could be whipped up quickly since you wouldn't have to do much sewing and no hemming at all. This just shows an option of making that dress while selecting your own fabrics.

  • I bought your patters earlier today (basic & ruffle) and just got back from buying my materials - I can't wait to start making my first dress tonight! Thanks for such super easy instructions!! BTW - I have 3 boys and make tutus for fun! LOL I'll be making this dress for my 8 month old niece!

  • @dschiti Awesome!! LOL. Happy sewing! :o)

  • What a clear precise tutorial! Thank you. I will be checking your website regularly for new projects!

  • What a great, well spoken how to. I'm off to check out your site.

  • check out my only video... its an 8 year old singing back to december by taylor swift. She is dying to hear what people think!

  • I watched this video & bought your pattern and instructions. I followed this video mainly....and your video on "french seams"! I have to first say that I am a BEGINNER! I JUST learned how to sew on a button about 2 months ago! My husband bought me a sewing machine for Mother's Day because I have been making cut-out appliques and wanted to sew around the edges to prevent fraying. So...that is ALL the sewing experience I have! AND>> I made the MOST adorable dress today thanks to YOU! THANK U!! :)

  • @carrieadams04 YAY for you!! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed my videos and pattern. Now, be careful! Sewing can be addicting! LOL Feel free to post pics of the complete dress on my facebook page- just do a search for Crafty Gemini. We love to see what you make from my patterns and tutorials.

  • Your videos are awesome! Nice and clear and easy to see. Thanks! Great job!!

  • I am very excited to make my daughter dresses for this summer! Bought that pattern tonight and am hoping to get started tomorrow!

  • love it! I subscribed!

  • excellent

  • Do you have a tutorial or patterns on pillowcase dresses that dont have ribbon ties? I bought tons of cases but want to make different styles of dresses that are just as easy but all I ever see is the bow tie style.

  • @tiaglad I think we mostly do the ties because they are adjustable. Some people stitch the straps to the dress so they don't come out of the casing and they stay on the dress through washes, etc. I'm sure you could do like a spaghetti strap style but you would have to measure it on the little girl and mark exactly where you want it to stay put and sew it up, etc.

  • thanks for replying im goning to make one for my little cousin too :D

  • het i want a dress like this for me would it work with larger pieces of fabric??? great vid by the way im subscribing!!! :D

  • @duckyducky98 It would definitely work for an adult size just keep in mind that since it is a loose fitting dress it will fit loosely on your body as well. So it won't be fitted around the bust or waist, etc. Glad you liked the tutorial! :o)

  • hi vanessa, these are so beautiful i'm gonna make 2 for my lil grls :) i was jus wondering what is the best type of ribbon to use for the straps, i jus don't want something that will irritate their shoulders, thanx so much for the wonderful tutorial :)

  • @dragoneyes0301 No problem! Definitely the silkier the ribbon the better! So, maybe look into the satin type ribbons they sell by the spool or by the yard. But I think the level of comfort will also depend on how tight you are tying them on. If you keep it tied comfortably just tight enough to stay on then they should be fine as well.

  • Hi Vanessa, you're so creative!! I don't have a serger machine, but now I know how to make french seams. Thanks!!!

Estuve por tu blog y me gustó mucho, es muy bueno. Que bueno que eres dominicana igual que yo. I hope you can to read Spanish.

  • @Dominicangirlp Thanks! I'm glad I could help. Si, leo y hablo español. Cuidate.

  • what size is the pattern for i need a 5 or 6

  • @twilightchic97 This e-pattern's instructions are based on you having or knowing the measurements of the child you need to make it for. So, it's customizable for pretty much any size. My Ruffled Pillowcase dress e-pattern is the pattern that includes chart measurements for sizes Newbron to size 8. Many of my customers purchase both and use the measurements in the ruffled pillowcase dress pattern to make the basic pillowcase dress seen in this video.

  • Thank you so much! Your instructions are WONDERFUL! :)

  • awesome...can't wait to try it!

  • @the laday re. the "bloody" dress...maybe you could have bucked up and purchased the $3. pattern and done it right as she suggests! duh!

  • Awesome, thank you so much!!! Off to check out your website right now!

  • after searching YouTube for an hour I finally ran across your video which was VERY helpful!!!! Thank you!!

  • Such a cute dress!! Thank you for sharing! On my way to your site to purchase =]

  • i cant wait to make this dress... i bought your pattern.. I thank you so much for sharing it so i can make my baby dresses. :)))

  • can you make AN ACTUAL HOW-TO VIDEO PLEASE?! this "how-to" is beyond terrible. instead of making a pillow case i made something that gnarled my childs face because i couldn't get the thread completely flat in the pillow there were little nubs of thread! turned out to a bloody pillow case. i can't believe this.

  • @LTCimbulletproof This tutorial is not meant to be a stand alone how-to video. This was made to supplement my complete step-by-step instructions and pattern that are only available for purchase.

  • @TheCraftyGemini yeah well i'm getting tired of watching this video everyday!!!

  • Excellent Teacher!

  • great tutorial! thank you so much for your time =)

  • Probably could have figured it out without buying the pattern, but since you made such a WONDERFUL video I felt you deserved the $3, I would have paid $20.

    Thank you so much!

Can't wait to get my machine fixed.

    ~e
