you're right, that's what the McCarthy era was. Many respectable and talented people in hollywood got blacklisted. Most of them mainly because they had views that were more liberal than the norm. Some people were interrogated for hours and finally said innocent people's names just so they wouldn't get in trouble themselves. Arthur Miller wrote the Crucible as a metaphor for the McCarthy era

Witchfinder General is actually a genuinely disturbing picture - Price's performance is unusually straight and un-campy, and the gloomy countryside setting makes it one of the best British horror/chiller films. The director Reeves committed suicide the year after it was made, aged only 25.

Vincent Price was a master at horror. Back in them days you didn't have all the technology they have now. You had to rely on your facial expressions, voice tones etc. Real talent. Just my thoughts.

I got Unidentified Male from Netflix after your review. It was very thought provoking. Seems there is some skepticism of his amnesia, but I'm convinced. GQ has a good article. Search Doug Bruce and select the GQ article.

Aka General Bitchfinder aka 14th Century Van Helsing. Yeah It could be remake in a parody way. I wonder if their are any "Bitchfinders" or "Witchfind---" wait, that ain't too cool. Check out Season of the Witch trailer, it'll make you feel better.

The house on haunted hill is excellent. Certainly one of his best, and one of the best "creepy old house" horror movies of the 1950's in all of it's 1950's style sanitized glory.

VP was just beyond cool, and he never turned down a script. He could make even the worst script known to man have an outline in Price gold.
