i remember this song when iwas younger i heard it while we were out somewhere and i remember thinking this is a nice song and hearing it after so long i had to get the cd love
Epic, dark, deep, transcendent progressive music. Genesis translated God into this song. One day....one day we will all wake up and recognize that there was much more to the 80s than 1 hit wonder synth bands. This song is such a revolution.
In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth.
As the years and centuries progressed, God created Phil Collins, and Phil created the greatest and most under-publicized song in history, Tonight, Tonight, Tonight.
Pointing the microphone towards the audience serves both as Phil's way of connecting with them, AND making this particular song connect with them also.
I'm sure part of it is the middle section, but I think it has more to do with Phil's voice than anything. Watching the Invisible Touch Tour performance, he had a lot of trouble with some of the high parts that come later in the song. I rather don't mind the shortened version, but that's just me. But having grown up hearing Genesis, and for most of my childhood hearing this album in particular, I have no problem however they play it!
Dude thats awesome. This came out when I was in 2nd grade and now I'm 27, used to listen to it then and even now it sounds amazing and is such a classic. Will always love it.
I wished they played the full version of the song instead of just editing it so it can transition to Invisible Touch. Last time they actually played the full version was on the Invisible Touch tour in 1986/1987 if I remember correctly.
Nope !! They played the full version leading into Invisible Touch last year in Amsterdam ! Know that for sure cause i was in the crowd of that briliant concert !
I wish! Unfortunately your memory must be a little hazy - the full version of "Tonight Tonight Tonight" has, indeed, not been performed by Genesis since 1987, as mentioned above. The boys just don't care for the instrumental section very much. Which is a shame, 'cause it's much better than they think! But it was definitely not played on the Turn It On Again tour. The full version is over 8 minutes long, remember...

I like the way Phil points the microphone towards the audience for the chorus :)

I like how they play the song lower, but I wish that they would play the entire song. It's such an amazing song and it is sad to see it minimized.

This amazing song is knocked for being too long, which is why the full version isn't played. That's a ludicrous reason!
Using that argument, the full movie version of Titanic should not air on cable or satellite TV or on Internet TV because it's too long.
ez2tv3 3 years ago
but Titanic was a shit film and therefore should be avoided at all costs.
CarpetCrawling1978 3 years ago 2
I concur, even though I didn't watch Titanic. Not only was it too long, it's absolutely BORING! So on that one, we concur.
My point was that the argument for shortening Phil's Tonight, Tonight, Tonight song was absurd, and it still is.
ez2tv3 3 years ago
lol well concurred and I concur with your concurrance,
CarpetCrawling1978 3 years ago 3
Appreciate the concurrence, AND the humor, heh heh heh.
