Nice jumps, good presentation, and good speed throughout the program. However, am I the only one who thinks she has lousy spinning ability? I cringed everytime I watched her spin. Compared to her superb jumps in this program, her spins really were awful.

Her finest performance, did she deserve the win, absolutely. Not just because of what she overcame, but due to the fact she out-skated Lipinski. Tanja's jumps are pure and have great spring and height. Also, she skates from the heart and had so much more maturity and sophistication. Im sure if Tara skated past the age of 16, we would also have seen more grace and maturity. But on this day and in this event, Tanja was the one.

I think she took her lutzes off the outside edge, which Lipinski did not. I think she (should have) won the long program for that reason, even if it was not possible for her to win the overall competition. But good for her anyway!

Yeah it was so frusterating to see a skater with so many glaring holes in her skating just pushed to the top. Atleast in early 97 I could that she was lucky it was a weak field, Kwan was falling apart for a couple events, so was Irina, Lu was out of it, and they didnt have much choice a couple times. However starting from the 97 worlds they had other options from others skating well enough to beat her, and they continued to overlook her glaring deficiencies and giving her gold each time, ugh!

Tara Lipinski was one of the most overrated skaters in history. The only title she ever desrved was the 1997 U.S title when Kwan had a meltdown. I would give the 1997 GP final title to Kwan, the 1997 World title to Kwan, this title to Tanya, an the olympic gold to Kwan.

@hairbrush81 in the world championship Kwan had a huge deficit she was 4th in the short program, and lipinski was 1st : lipinski had 0.5 and kwan 2.0... Kwan won the free skate, she scored 1.0, and lipinski 2nd so 2.0. KWAN 2.0 + 1.0 = 3.0 LIPINSKI 0.5 +2.0 = 2.5 overall lipinski won the competition. You cannot say anything about that. It's a logical result.

I love this program!

Everyone calls this a great Comeback, BUT- this was Pretty much it for her. She scraped a Bronze at Euro's the following month, came down ill just before the Olympics :( and had to really fight through illness at worlds a few weeks later to end her career on a "What could have been" AT least she had this one performance that will always remind people of how good she was. A world bronze and a Euro Bronze to her name too. We salute you Tanja!

Well at least she did reach her maximum potential and was able to show it. Others have had truly unfulfilled careers and career endings but Tanja came back and the coming back for her in 96-98 was not gradual but she showed it once she was on ice. She didn't waste time!

I have to say this is BY FAR the best I've ever seen her skate. Truly a very classy skater. Sometimes her back on her jump landings is a little low... but really, a very emotional, clean skate. Imagine what kind of damage she could have done at Nagano with this performance. I don't think Chen Lu would have won the bronze.

Tara got little height on her jumps AND her lutz's were very lazy by switching edge just before take-off to make an easier flip jump. Tanja's jumps here were textbook, and a pleasure to watch!
