  • I discovered him few days ago, and I just wanna say "shame on me!". He's incredible!

  • aphex twin call's his music "brain dance" instead of IDM.

i think it is much more useful to try to describe music rather than create a all-encompassing sub genre.

dirty, heavily processed, gritty, grainy, melodic, ambient, broken, experimental, punchy, powerful, nostalgic, droning...

    add on some adjectives people.

IDM certainly is a horrible thing to call any music though.

people who dance to music under the pretense of it being intelligent probably lack that aforementioned characteristic.

  • @sheatheman Brain Dance as a word has almost the same meaning as Intelligent Dance Music. What you called wrong about the term IDM can be also said for the term Brain Dance. But because the great Richard David James says it, it is probaly ok to use it..

  • @MrBeeKaa there is the other IDM though made up of the more glitchy clicky stuff that has proliferated since around 1999. thats what i think of when i think idm, not warp records.

  • saw chris in lower nyc playing with hudson mohawke last saturday. didn't play this gem but he tore it up of course. ^^

  • does anybody no if the drummer uses a motronome or anything to stay in time ?

  • cool track

  • какой придурок встал у колонки

  • lovely track. for those interested this is Herr bar from the excellent Body riddle Lp.

ps. can we stop referring to this music as 'IDM'!

  • fair point about the IDM.. what would you call it though? IDM is a nice, easy term cause its applicable to so much music lol.. but yeah if the artists don't like it, i should find another description.

  • Electronic

  • true - that's the term i've been using, but its annoying cause its even more broad and encompasses the music that the term 'IDM' was trying to get away from/was the reason the term 'IDM' came about in the first place. still, nothing to be done i guess.

  • Clark does write the drum part, if you look on the album cases its say "produced, proformed and arranged by Chris Clark"

  • chis clark is still a leg end doesnt matter that hes got drummer there. plus i saw him at glade fest 07 and he did it all himself so until you see him live u carnt comment really. plus i think it sounds boss with a drummer there! clark can so his thing and a drummer can always add summart to it!

  • If the beats were programmed they would be pre-sequenced anyway. Who's to say he didn't write the drum part and give it to the drummer? How is that different besides the fact that the drummer can improvise faster?

  • Of course he wrote the Drum part... and also u're right about "Improvise" and that things. My point is.. It sounds different, i just don't think he translate Digital to Analog in a proper way, the drummer did not change anything and it sounded lame. Even knowing a beat on a software is pre-sequenced it can be changed at anytime, it's like Aphex Twin, even knowing the kind of beats he make are really complicated, he still able to manage, change them and re-create them live.

    I love clark anyways.

  • He can re-create them live, but he still has sequenced patterns that he uses, he doesn't have to drum them out live and he doesn't alter their original form that much. I'm not dissing Aphex Twin, I'm just saying that when something is played completely digitally, there's a limit to how much you can improvise. IMO, this song live sounds fucking awesome.

  • cheeky twat, I bloody know what breakcore is, it started in the mid 90s mainly from europe, berlin was the hot spot, london & australia tagged along. I was there when it started & better than this! I was critising this iterpretation, not the genre.

There are better than this out there

are you going to BANG FACE - The Weekender

25-27 April 2008 - Camber Sands Holiday Park should be good!

  • chris clark, legend.

And kirk the genre is IDM (intelligent dance music, wikipedia it) not breakcore

  • I love the drums, man just orgasmic, & the rest of the song is also freakin' cool.

  • Yeah, I think this is pure genious. Excellent drumming . . .

  • Yeah, I think this is pure genious. Excellent drumming . . .

  • this is called breakcore, old man. This is what the youth are listening to now a days.
