I was there that night and shook hands with woody harrelson and saw the rest of the cast except long and alley....i also saw leno pull up and stick his tonuge out at the crowd. i will never forget it
so Cheers was filmed at a real Pub? I loved this show and I didnt know the finale was this big with people everywhere does this happen for every show? I miss Cheers it was great.
i am a huge fan of cheers.i was not very happy with the last episode of cheers i thought that sam is gonna stay with Diane,i hope you do a movie or the series of cheers in 2009 sam and Diane are Married with Children There son or daughter works in cheers.
Actually, Kirstie was the only cast member not present. She did a taped goodbye because she was on location for the shooting of the epic third Look Who's Talking "film".
Very cool clip! Either your VCR only recorded in mono, or you only received mono or the station only broadcast in mono (I doubt it)...I could tell from the single-track clip of the theme song in there.

I don't guess any other show today could spark such an exuberance.

@RubicsCubeProduction The audience is too fragmented nowadays. And its tastes are too tawdry.

Was there any morning/afternoon coverage with Tom Bergeron, who was with WBZ at the time?
johnnyafairbanks 2 years ago
WBZ was with the NBC network when Cheers ended.
Now it is a CBS O&O.
And the rights to Cheers are now owned by CBS.
Another paradox.

On top of that, BZ just released Joyce Kulhawik and Bob Lobel go. What the hell happened to this station?
godgundam10 3 years ago
It's almost ironic... in fact that the WBZ-TV that I think of so fondly now became history at about the same time that Cheers did.

Liz walker is great..she's a Boston icon
rfd61cape 3 years ago 2
Liz Walker was a bit more praised than Jack Williams back in the 90's.

the finale took place when the westinghouse group was about to let go of WBZ-TV...
rd2mms 4 years ago
The "let go" wasn't really a let go. It was a merger with CBS, and after a couple of years, the real "let go" happened in their news ratings.

i saw this live when they said goodbye through the windows

If I recall the entire cast was whacked after the last show, it really was last call at Cheers, I don't think there was a dry tap left
MASH1983 4 years ago
The cast indeed did show up on the Tonight Show entirely wrecked. If I recall, Kirstie was the loudest and most clumsy, of course =)!

Looks like the biggest thing to happen to Boston until the Red Sox won the World Series....

My goodness, it's as if Boston went Hollywood--searchlights and all!
