  • Amazing classic! Thank you!

  • You're welcome, chisaoboy-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • Were these guys an actual band, or were they just a bunch of "hired gun" studio musicians? Where were they from? For the record, I always hated bubble-gum music. And when this song came out, I was probably a freshman in high school. I'm 57 now...lol. Yeah, I despised this tune, but ALL the chicks loved it. A chick song for sure. And a.m. radio played it to death here in Tucson for years on end.

  • If you want to know about them, please refer to this band in Wikipedia.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • Some say one hit wonder bubble gum bands of the sixties and seventies are a joke but that's just not true. They were and are an intregal part of music history and why it's important to use love and positive lyrics in song. They also aid in a person's growing up memories. I know they do for me. God Bless 'em!

  • This cutesy feel good song came out about 6 months after my little sister Tracy was born. After 42 years I think it's time for the right man to relay his Sweetest Day sentiments on Facebook to his wife with this song is my brother-in-law Allen.

  • It still has the famous bounce I loved when it came out. But now, how about those control freak lyrics? "Come with me, don't say no....you're gonna be so happy with me...you're be so glad I found you" Whoa.

    Thanks for the post, 60otaku3

  • You're welcome, helios1912-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • love this song.xx

  • This is a FANTASTIC little song! Ba ba ba baaa ba ba , Its like that cool 80's Hi-C commercial. Do be doo waaah! lol. Great happy stuff. The girl on the cover is pretty hot, too! Thanks for sharing this.

  • You're welcome, MultiPrkr-san!!

  • Best part of Youtube is that I am able for a few minutes to be young again and travel back to the innocent days of being a teen.

havent heard this song in a Long Long time...

  • Tracy was the first girl that I really talked to in my young world. I was a first grader and you all remember what it was like to be a first grader. It was scary! Worst week of my little world! The Teacher asked me questions which I couldn't answer and I missed two busses and Mommy had to come rescue me. But Tracy was a smiling face in that classroom and she sat next to me. We had lunch in the cafeteria together and she was my friend for 12 years.

  • is it possible to listen to this song, and be in a bad mood? i think not..

  • I've never met anyone called Tracy. She sounds like a nice girl though. I like jolly songs and this is a classic of its kind. Which isn't a put-down. I think it's harder to write a happy song than a miserable one. But maybe we need both for a well-rounded human experience. Appreciate the good times when you've got them, they don't come around too often and don't always last. Top song.

  • He was a real Beatle in disguise! I always did like his voice. It had this certain cool youngish type of style.

  • I had a big crush in HS with a girl named Tracy. She became the Homecoming Queen our senior year. It was fun back then in 1979.

  • When this song came out I was in 7th grade and, as my name is Tracey, the line "Tracy NEVER let go." made my life a living hell as any one that remembers junior high years can well imagine. heh.

Luckily my history teacher showed me what my name means in Gaelic and that did help some but I was sure glad when this song got off the top 40. HA!

  • He was awesome as a session singer. He defined the 60's & early 70's pop.

  • Is that Ron Dante singing? I bet it is.

  • @714AD You bet!

  • @714AD As a matter of fact, this song was on the radio at the same time as "Sugar Sugar" and I didn't realize that it was Ron Dante singing both songs.

  • This is the voice of The Archies singer!

  • @imjunipernow :)..You are correct!

  • nice song

  • My mum told me about this song. And how she listened to it when she was younger. She said she would sit in her little rocking chair and bounce back and forth to it.

Good music runs in the family...:]

  • dante also sung another good old song sugar sugar

  • This is awesome.A classic and one of those songs that NEVER dies.

  • We play this at camp every year..I don't see how some people don't like it! I loveee it. But I do like late 60's music..

  • Ron Dante great on this song and even greater as Archie (The Archies)

  • 1969年、ニュー・ロック・ムーヴメント激動期に咲いた、極上ポップス花~カフ・リンクス~トレイシー~唄うはロン・ダンテだったヨネ!

  • You're welcome, VaDriver001-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • I had just turned 12 when this song was first out. It was one of the many songs that I first heard on WFIL, Famous 56, here in Philadelphia. I just love this song. Give me this type of music instead of all the junk that's out today.

I'm so glad that I was born in 1957 and grew up during the 60's.

  • @nanlisa I was born in 1956 so I with you. It was a wonderful time for pop music. Did you know that 1957 was the largest year of the baby boom?

  • Classic, Wonderful "Bubblegum" music of the late '60s ... Don't cha love it!

  • lol i was actually named after this song ..... it was on in the delivery room as my mum gave birth to me lol

  • My girlfriend is called Tracy and she is a fox. We can both remember this song in '69 along with the Archies sugar sugar. We are both 47 now and this song evokes such happy memories for both of us. Where did the time go? Thankyou 60otaku3.

  • You're welcome, lubbocklad-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @lubbocklad Way Kool. I'm just three years ahead of you and your beloved Tracy. I remember this song in September / October of 1969 when I was eight, going into the third grade. So many fond memories of an era gone by. It was, it came, and it went as fast as it came, and there will never be another "1969" ever again.

Sugar Sugar also evokes many fond memories of the summer of 1969.

  • @lubbocklad Hear you man. My wife's name is Traci and we are in our late '40's remembering all the great love songs of the late '60's and early '70's. When we sit alone, sharing a little wine and listening to the CD's of this old music, it's like we're teens again.

  • @lubbocklad I haven't heard a girl referred to as a "Fox" in many years. Or a good-looking girl being described as "mint".

  • great song and the sound quality is great ty!

  • You're welcome, bruiser116-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • my birds called tracy! she loves it!

  • OMG someone sang about me :)

  • Tracy, dedicated to you. Good luck as an RN.

  • My wife's name is TRACY, I loved this song while growing up..."who knew"..lol she says her mom named her after Dick Tracy though... lol

  • Another great song in a long list of sixties rock songs that sounded so pure and beautiful!! Wonderfully upbeat, love song!!

  • One of my favorites - named one of my daughters 'Tracy.' Thanks from the bottom of my heart for this post. Tracy is getting married tomorrow..............

  • You're welcome, lawdy69-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • @lawdy69 im a Tracey too and I was born in 1969 xxxxx

  • Great track by The Cuff Links from 1969. Inho, the 'birds' of that era were more attractive - on the whole - than the current generation of young women. Today's birds - many of whom pander to 'peer group' pressure to conform to 'ladette' culture - often seem more intent on looking 'hard' than on looking feminine and attractive. Back in 1969, however, 'with it' young women in Britain would not have dreamed of getting tattoos ...... or body piercings. How times have changed since then.

  • Which one's Tracy then ??? ; )

  • @indoorsun

Hope that's not a serious question.

  • @indoorsun The two models on the cover of the "Tracy" album are cute and all but had nothing whatsoever to do with any of the recordings. The Cuff Links were simply the vocal work of one man -- Ron Dante -- who was also in the Top 10 at the very same time as lead singer of The Archies ("Sugar Sugar"). Dante went on to produce a lot of hits for Barry Manilow and others. Nice guy. I interviewed him once. There was one follow-up hit to Tracy," "When Julie Comes Around."

  • Hmmm..... I've never herd this song. Lol btw my name is Tracy lol

  • Love this... Tracy

  • i used to have this played to me by Paul Mckenna dedicated to his fave Tracey , never forget this song

  • omg ! i love it, never find songs with my name in, this is brill ! lol x

  • @tracytanner79 i know isnt it great, I used to have Paul Mckenna play this song for me when i was 16 i love it so much.

  • LMAO! Can't believe I found this,

We made fun of this song constantly while over seas back then lol!

  • I was 11 when this song came out. I fell in love with it, and with Tracy, whomever she was. It was the first 45 I ever bought, and to the best of my recollection, the first recording of any kind I ever had.

  • My seven year old daughter just adores this song. Can't say I blame her!

  • i laugh at some of the comments that are asking the obvious questions. my older brother was killed in 'Nam in '69 and this was one of the songs i listened to to make me feel better, it is such an upbeat song. thanks again 60otaku3 san for posting great old songs!! the memories can never die and the music that was around at the time of the memory brings it back quickly and vividly!!!

  • You're welcome, stroh013-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • @stroh013 I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. My brother was also in 'Nam in '69, but thankfully he made it back okay. When my brother first left for 'Nam, I found his reel-to-reel tape recorder in his room. When I turn it on, the song "Hey Jude" by the Beatles started playing. I sat there listening to the song and cried because I missed him and feared he might be killed. After the song finished, I turned the tape off. For about 5 years I hated this song, but in time it became a favorite.

  • @DONRHOLLOWAY --thank you. i was very much needing to feel better after my bro was killed. many songs from '69 are among my faves. when i got the log book he kept from jump school, he used 2 words all the time to decsribe how he felt....scared shitless, lol. i wanted to jump out of an airplane for years until i became old enough to do it without parental permission. glad your bro made it back, for many did not. my bro went in '67 and i saw him the last time in '68 after tet. i miss him still.

  • Ha ! my mums called "Tracy" .....

  • Thanks Again otaku.

  • You're welcome, TheTip64-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • Great song!!

  • never heard this song before but i like it

  • RON DANTE IS THE SINGER on this

  • It's my name, my song! Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba... I was four years old when this came out! So glad I finally discovered who performed this way back when... I've been wondering about it for years to no avail! Finally!!! :)

  • i was named after this song <3 love it. my name is spelt "tracy" by the way, so dont comment saying how its spelt wrong haha :)

  • Oops 24 chords actually...can't count....

  • Who said bubblegum is simple? 22 different chords in 2:14 of pure pop. A uke arrangement of this great song can be found at scorpexdotnet/Uke. Play and sing along with Ron Dante!

  • 60s pop! can't beat it!

  • You're very welcome, 26greenrose-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • Loved listening to this 45 on my orange record player when I was little :)

  • Irrepressibly upbeat -- you can't help but tap your toes to it. I always liked "Tracy" better than "Sugar Sugar".

Looks like 6 unhappy viewers don't have a "lovin' feeling" .... Sad!

  • haha bought this record...b, side was what are you doing sunday baby...was much better give it a listen

  • I was in HS when this song came about. Now when it pops on my MP3 player and I'm having a bad day THIS song just lifts my spirits! Love it!

  • Did you know that the singers of this song were also the ones who sang "Sugar,

Sugar?" Yep, the Archies. Just thought you'd like to know.

  • Of course I know that Ron Dante sang "Sugar, Sugar".

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • @drcrumpler Didn't know that one great bit od info ~ Paul

  • @drcrumpler Didn't know that one great bit of info ~ Paul

  • @drcrumpler Ron Dante was THE singer. Everything was done in studio by him alone, for both "groups."

  • @drcrumpler Ron Dante is the singer for the Archies and the Cuff Links, the only one !

  • my mum n dad used to play this on the radio for me on my birthdai every year

  • I completely forgot about this song! OMG! Thanks 60otaku3. This song really brought back a lot of memories

  • You're welcome, londonlass100-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • This was the 1st 45 I ever bought with my own money. 1969--7th grade at a Catholic school. I used to lie in bed at night waiting for it to go on the radio on WCFL (AM 1000) back in the day in Chicago. It came on later and later every night but once it played, I could go to sleep. I still have the 45 and yes I still play it!! BUBBLEGUM ROCKS!! Thank you soo much!

  • You're very welcome, ECCRN1996-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)/

  • @60otaku3

too right! i must be the same age!

simple classic 45s we used to sing them at school to all the girls named tracey!

    simpler times and great music.

    kev in sunderland

  • @ECCRN1996 Was the catholic school St. Rita grammar school? I was a 1972 graduate. Ilistened to WCFL and WLS all the time. I still have those countdown sheets, I remember Larry Lujack. I love these songs!

  • @anoopdesaifan No, it was St. Louise de Marillac. I graduated in 1971 from there.....Larry Lujack....Uncle Larry and Li'l Tommy!! Great time to be a kid!!!

  • @anoopdesaifan i GAVE lARRY lUJACK A BLOWJOB IN 1973 WHILE WE WERE SNORTING COKE TOGETHER.

  • @KarenEngSwallows

So you had a nose job and he had a blow job..classy!

  • @ECCRN1996 Awesome post. I live in Chi-Town too and used to listen to WCFL also along with WLS of course. I too loved "Bubble Gum" and still think it's great. Happy and upbeat music. From Bridgeport, how about you? Don't tell anybody but I actually belonged to the "Archie Fan Club"....WTF?

  • @ECCRN1996 Way kool!! I was a third grader in the fall of 1969 and this song, with many others, brings a smile to my face and a spring to my heart. Very kool, classy song. We were so blessed to grow up in an era of real talented musicians.

  • @ECCRN1996 - Hello. Your experience parallels mine. I had a little "crystal set" instead of an actual radio. It had "alligator clips" which just needed to be attached to something metal w/ an electric current (Ex: lamp cover). The only stations I could tune into were WLS (890) & WCFL. I attended a small Catholic school in Villa Park, ILL, went to a Friday night dance club & had the time of my life. Best Wishes to you.

  • My older cousin (Debbie RIP) played this song on her record player for me and my brothers. She had tons of records. I wanted my own 45, so I bought a copy. I was 9 years old. I remember bouncing around the room, wearing those funky Spring-Coiled shoes while listening to this song. MY 'summer of love.' HA! Thanks for posting this tune.

  • You're welcome, eatmedamit-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • this is a great song. i was in highschool in a computer class, listening to this song. there was a girl n that class i liked, and this song brings back memories!

  • @themipp Same thing happened to me in High School. That summer we moved. Never had a chance to ask her out.

  • Porque los tiempos ia no son como antes::...

  • my mom and dad must have HATED this song...i played it so many times (the 45)and wanted to change my name to Tracy...lol

  • ANOTHER AWESOME SONG FROM TIME PAST.

  • Popular song my senior year in HS....good memories///always wondered who the lady on the album cover was....

  • I.....miss you.

  • Love it! Remember it when it was new, I was 6 at the time. Going to sing it for my girlfriend Tracy at karaoke tonight.

  • Stumbled across this . These kinds of tracks bring tears to my eyes . Even though i was too young to remember them .

I was born in 1969 I was brought up on these songs & though i shed a tear i also smile with joy . Has they remimd me of my late mum . So thank you (60otaku3)

  • You're welcome, TheDjmurray123-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • @TheDjmurray123 this tune brings back so many memories of when i was a little girl, my mom always said it was my song cos thats my name lol. Its such a happy little number it always puts a smile on my face. In 2001 i was on holiday in devon with my family and went to the club on the site, the cufflinks were there lol and when they did this song me and my dad burst out laughing, no one else knew the words lol

  • Great song, well performed. Beautiful harmonic progressions in the central sections.

  • My name is Tracy...not sure why it's cool to know there's a song that uses your name...but it is. :) I'd love to hear this song *modernized*...kinda indie/rock like. Lyrics are kinda simplistic...but I think it could be done.

  • @tlknott And I was born in 69! :D

  • @tlknott In that period of time (late 60's) in popular music there were songs on the top40 called 'bubble gum", very simple upbeat tunes. "Tracy" is one of them. I wonder if modernizing it would ruin the sprit of it.

  • IN SECOND GRADE, 1969, I USED TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG ON MY TRANSISTOR RADIO WHILE RIDING MY BIKE DOWN A HILL. THIS WAS PURE CHILDHOOD FUN AND EXCITEMENT THAT CAN NEVER BE REPEATED IN TODAYS HATEFUL EVIL WORLD

  • plal this in my car when feeling low.used to dance this with my daughter when she was young.

  • where r they now?

  • @r814704 It was a studio group with Ron Dante on lead. He also was the lead of The Archies(Sugar Sugar).

  • Here's a great story on this song: Me and Tracy have been together 23 years now. She told me that when she was just seven this song came out. Some older kid that knew her family comes over to her house and just hands her this little 45 record out of the blue. She goes and puts it on her little turntable, and out comes this wonderful little tune about her! She said it was a very happy day for her and she wore that little record out. The whole sequence of events just about blew her little mind!

  • i have got this on record aswell n i wenrt even born when this was out.lol.

  • 60otaku3, You seem to have ALL the Great One's on your site. Thanks Again.

  • Thank you so much, wolfmantip-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)b

  • My name is Tracy. But I was born in 1968.

  • When we were kids, my sister Tracy and I used to play this record so much and think it was so great having a record that was Tracy's name... good old memories, thank you xxxxx

  • You're welcome, MrMarks4-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • @MrMarks4 My brother and I used to play this too -- played this record to death!

  • @luminutty1 -- I didn't know, either, that Ron Dante sang both this song and "Sugar Sugar". And the amazing thing is that they were on the radio at the same time (late summer/early autumn, 1969) and I still didn't recognize that it was Ron also singing "Tracy". (I knew it was him on "Sugar Sugar").

  • thats my name !!!!!is this about me????lol.

  • Love it.

  • this is one song I never expected to see LIVE. Ron Dante a few years ago at the old Bottom Line!

  • good sound to this 1969 song by the cuff links.

  • This guy had to be the singer on the song "billy don't be a hero" by the Heywoods.

  • This is where my parents got my name. My mom must have loved this sing. But they spelt it Traci. I tracked down the record for my parents a few years ago.

  • @luminutty1 -- I never knew, either, that it was Ron Dante on both songs (Sugar Sugar and Tracy) and they were on the radio at the same time (late summer, early fall of 1969). I listened to the radio a lot then, and I still never figured out that it was Ron on vocals on this song too.

  • You're welcome, luminutty1-san!!

Mum brought this song for me when I was very young child (My first record)...this lovely song brought back some really good times with the song played...sadly my Mum passed away eight days ago (it was sudden) and the song really lefted me up and now I play it every morning...a big warm thank you from me all the the way from New Zealand

  • @TCHickisey -- A warm welcome back to you from the state of New York (other than New York City), USA. I'm glad your Mum bought this record for you. I don't have any special experience attached to it, myself, other than it was one of my favorite songs then, in the fall of 1969, when I was a lad of 12.

  • Trace I wrote this one over the weekend just for you. LOL. Hey you keep asking for it.

  • I remember rehearing this decades later during the Olympics or World Gymnastics ---It brought back great memories---I believe they played this over the Tracy Talavera spotlight --- and if I remember they played "Julie Do You Love Me" during the Julie McNamara piece ---Some things just stay with you -- Thanks!!!
