I think the big problem was choosing the training ground to be in Saipan. It's a shame he left, but ultimately it sounds like Mick McCarthy didn't have a clue on what to do.
What an attention seeker. We did better without him anyway.Irelands international team doesnt need a superstar demanding everything to be first class and have people work to their demands.
I've been to Saipan scuba diving and it is a lovely place!what do you think the facilities are going to be like on a Japanese island? Lucky to find apatch of grass to train on!
Keane, good player ,maybe a bit of a clogger!? Notice the winey pitch of his voice.still not sure he was right me thinks.if you had this interveiw now I think it would be loads different
@prodigy67 your talkin out your arse buddy, 1st of all that bit of a winey pitch in his voice is just his cork city accent, me being from cork i sometimes have it too. you can see from the start of this interview keane was heartbroken with wat happened and felt let down by main people in the irish camp. fair play to him for havin the courage of his convictions and standing up for himself after being wronged and humiliated. and if u interview him now he'd say the exact same
Tommy Gorman is an awful crybaby, a repetitive gobshite. This pathetic, meandering interview could have been edited down to ten minutes with no loss of useful content.
"But what about the children, Roy?"
"But the team would love to have you back, Roy."
"But wasn't that terrible language to use, Roy?"
"But can you not meet them half way, Roy?"
"But, but, but, let me just repeat the same questions ad nauseam, Roy."
Insanity: doing something repeatedly and expecting different results (Einstein).
is this chap a peedo he keeps talkin about these kids, trying to guilt trip KEANO, typical RTE gobshites don't have a clue asking the same questions trying to out smart him, asking stupid irrelevant question and as much as I respect mccarthy keane was right i would have loved to have seen keano rejoin the lads i think we could have gone so far but never backdown.
@wsxvgy yeah and verbally abuses the manager. sent himself home. he described McC as a crap player and a crap manager. Well for the blueprint of a "crap manager" see Roy Keane. He's only a cork knacker. not even sane.
I'm an American who never heard of these people, doesn't know anything about football and only stumbled onto this video while looking for some travel info about Saipan. But whether this Roy Keane did right or wrong (and without knowing the details I'm guessing he took an honest intelligent position) it is clear that the interviewer is a worthless, cowardly, dishonest disgrace to whoever he is trying to represent.
at the end of the day Roy Keane should just stop being such a pride hungry prick and just get on with it. Christ he wouldn't have been his countries captain in the world cup. just proves my point that he's an arrogant overpaid loser
Thats unfair, Yes his ego was stopping him from going back, but wasn't being consciously dishonest. Its obvious the whole experience teared him apart and Im sure he learnt from it. Hes only human and hes NOT a bad person and is one of the best footballers of all time
i should make a correction there. i meant that he WOULD have been his countries captain in the world Cup, meaning its the biggest honor you could possibly have. i don't think its unfair what i said though. he's done so many things that makea him a bad person. the only season i didn't mind him in was the treble winning season, because he behaved himselg and the one time he did get sent off, were for mistimed challenges. other then that can't stand him
Well I do understand, he is the guy you either love or hate. For me, his persona is questionable but he was an amazing footballer and I respect his leadership
i wouldn't say he was an amazing footballer. determined but not amazing. as i say, Treble winning season is the only time i didn't mind him because he got on with it.
Of course he would have wanted to go back and play in that world cup, but not under Mick Mccarthy and who would blame him. Mccarthy said Roy faked injuries! what a wanker. If Mccarthy had a problem with Roy's interview with the Irish Times and Roy's apparent injury that he faked then Mick should have spoke to him in private, doing it in public seems like a set up. Roy did the right thing.
Collins sold out the 6 county people and borrowed arms from the british to fire on his ex-comradeswho refused to kow-tow to the brits. As for Keane he was a coward who couldn't take the pressure and betrayed his country when needed most. Two dumb scumbags.
Your a stupid old hag that hasnt got a clue. Collins was sent to britain because de valera didnt want to take it on himself he was to blame not Collins and that was the best deal he could get. That was a cold war afterwards that he had no control over, Roy keane left because of a lot of reasons and he was right so you are old ugly and silly. I heard George Bush is makin a name for himself up in MENSA HAHAHAHA.
Remember Keane wanted to go home a few days prior so this was his way to justify his chickening out. Keane ran down his fellow players in the press and McCarthy did the right thing to confront him and give his explanation to the players faces. Keane did the same thing on MUTV and got the boot from Fergie so that it looked liked Fergies fault. Keane is your typical Cork Gombeen Culchie.
I feel sorry for Keano, he was so uncomfortable and that prick interviewer kept bombarding him with questions that Roy already fucking answered and on top of that makes him feel like he's done the wrong thing. ASSHOLE!!!! Well done Keano, your an Honest no nonsense kinda guy and thats why we love and respect you. Good Luck with Ipswich Town this season.
Roy was on the top of his game at this time, I think this incident affecting keano's career after this incident, he was never the same player after this incident, the FAI is a far more professional setup now because of this incident.
It's McCarthys fault. If he had the balls he would have admitted he had done Keano wrong in the press and admitted it was his fault for Keano leaving, then ask Keano to come back. I say Keano would have come back then.
i totally agree with roy here... but i cant help but think "what if" we done so well in the world cup, i think with roy there we would of beat spain. does anyone agree?
we would have beat spain. we beat holland and almost beat portugal wit roy in the team. two teams that at the time had jus got to the semi finals of euro 2000. if only he had of been there.....
@celticsean1 I think even with Keane in the team at best Ireland would make 2nd round/quarter finals with luck on there side. Keane did the right thing for sure.
@DEKSTEDAY Well they made the second round without Keane. They were one penalty away from beating Spain. If Keane (their best player) had been playing, do you not think they would have done better against Spain? Of course they would, and therefore, they would have beaten them (they took them to a shoot out without their star player). In the quarter finals they would have played South Korea. In my opinion, they would have trounced them. From there, who knows. But to say they would have done (cnt)
Keane done what he had to do, And yet people can call him a traitor. As he said himself '' you were'nt in the door ''. It was unfortunate what happened but i think a lot of the blame can be laid on McCarthey and some of the other players. Would you put up with the s h i t Roy went through?
It's football ye eejit! It's not the fuckin 'ra! Roy Keane is a thick bullheaded git sometimes but that's what made him a great footballer. But a polititian or a revolutionary he is not. And if it wasn't for him doing that then the FAI wouldn't have launched an enquiry and realised that everything was a shambles. The national team would still be run like Tattyreagh Reserves. And what do you think the Irish Civil War was about anyway? Two sets of people disagreeing over how to run the show.
Good man keano .. you put that prick mick in his place ... Accusing ya of faking injury and trying to turn the team against you ..all because you highlighted the shite set up in the irish camp that time...all because you wanted better for ireland...your a legend roy
That interviewer was really pissing me off by the end of it. Did he really think Keane was just going to go "Oh fuck it, if you insist, i guess i'll go back on everything i stood up for"
in fairness the interviewer is doing his best to get keane to change his mind and come back, but keane was backed into a corner with no support from a single person in the squad, like a real man he stood up for himself, what he belived and still no back up from anyone.the senior irish players and all management at the time should be ashamed of themselves, and as for the fuckin F.A.I. well they are shams absolute shams.
The idea that a national team going to play in the biggest competion in the world and the people in charge didn't even have their training gear ready and waiting for them and then not even have a proper pitch on the island is an absolute disgrace. Roy was right in what he did and the way he did it. What did Mick think was going to happen when he called him out in front the team. He wasn't going to stand there with his tail between his legs he was going to stand up for what he believed in.
stupid fukin interviewer, keano shud have hit him a fukin headbutt lol, naw in all seriousness keano was right in wat he done, its nt his fault the other playerz were to much of a bottle job to say anyting!
I've a huge amount of respect for this guy. Not just a great footballer but a strong character & it took balls to be that strong in the face of the whole country & I think time has given way to perspective & now that emotions aren't running so high it's difficult to disagree with Roy and his actions were what spurred the begining of the end for incompitent complaicent boys club in the FAI and put the spot light on how our national team is run. Fair play Roy and thanks for all the great memorys.
For a while after this incident, I thought Roy Keane was completely in the wrong. But after seeing this and hearing his side of the story in full, I really respect the guy for standing up for what he believed in and sticking to his guns.
he followed what he believed was right, is their a better example to those kids. he wasn't looking for an apology, he was looking for better professionalism in an amateur setup.
Ok firstly, history has already shown that this could have been sorted out at the time if there had been one mediator and the press had kept their big noses out of it. Therefore I would blame both parties.
Secondly he is not from "North Cork" you ill educated moron he is from the North Side of Cork city.
