  • Great clip of jessie at her best just before her decline. You can see why Fred Astaire wanted her for his leading lady in Hollwood.Got all her 78s she was brilliant.

  • Jessie's films are available on DVD if you are persistent enough to find them. I recently bought 'First A Girl ' and "Sailing Along' from an American supplier. But it is sad to think that 70 years after these films were first made, they are still under the iron hand of copyright by foreign rights holders. So we are denied access to an adorable British icon of the 30s. She is a gem. Thanks for posting this great clip.

  • So glad i found this, i used to watch Sailing Along with my pop growing up and is been my favourite movie. Classic!

  • I THINK SHE IS LOVELY

  • It's unbelievable that someone this talented, who has so obviously NOT been forgotten, was so completely ignored by the DVD makers. I hope her films do better in the Blu-ray era and that collections of her films start turning up SOMEWHERE.

  • Just marvellous!!

  • Absolutely brilliant! Thanks hawkmoon for sharing!!

  • Excellent clip. I think Jessie Matthews was brilliant. Was that Roland Young, of 'Topper' fame, on the bank?

  • Yes, that is Roland Young.

  • Thanks for the confirmation. I think he's brilliant as Topper.

  • Yes, I agree he is brilliant as Topper. He is also great in the movie "Madame Satan" if you ever get a chance to see it.

  • Such a lovely performance. And I can't believe my eyes reading that none of Matthew's musicals is presently available. Shame on the editors, especially this year, which is her Centenary.
