Random Fact - Kelly Parsons ("Kelly") was Miss California in 1986. In the 1986 Miss USA pageant, she was fourth runner up and Halle Berry (Miss Ohio) was first runner up.
I was 8 years old when this debuted in 1977. I have mixed feelings watching this all over again. You see, my parents split up for good only a couple years before. My mother got custody of us kids. It was after the split that she turned into a mentally ill, abusive, psychotic monster. It was a living hell and I turned to watching television for solace. God, how I wished I could escape from her, become a mousketeer on tv and be as happy as they were on screen. Lord, I just want to cry.
@sophhhhhhhx3 The Intro's were unique to the Disco Mice. They were long and wonderful. I loved each and every one of them. Surprise Day was my favorite day, but I think Discovery Day was a better song.
WOW...they were like little robots!!! BIG SMILES, wide eyes and all!!!!! BUT BOY did I LOOOOVE this as a kid...I would pretend I was ALison and my friend would pretend she was Kelly... BRINGS back GREAT MEMORIES!!!
COULD'nt they have had Lisa WHelchel doing something else besides playing "air guitar"??????? I guess she couldn't dance!!!
Think about this. These kids had lots of talent, and they were in essence doing a Daily variety show which isn't easy to do. When they performed at Disneyland, it was practically like performing on Broadway! I feel funny about calling them kids because I was their age when I watched this in the late 70's! lol I loved this show then and now, and the songs are great and so are the kids. I still love Kelly!
The kids were taught to over emphasize their facial expressions and to be, well - over the top. I love/d the song.
They are nowhere near as bad as the adults in children's bodies of today encouraged to speak as though they are sucking on helium. Or the adults who prance around behaving, deresing and speaking like children. (NO hotel chains mentioned)!!
I loved the Mickey Mouse Club and can still remember the songs to the different days 30 years after the fact - sad huh?
haha, well i have to agree with u about the adult thing. and im sure since u probably grew up with this show it means a lot more to u than to someone like me. im sorry if i offended u!
Oh wow. Does this bring back memories. I was 8 years old when the NMMC debuted in 1977. The problem was that the local station aired it around 2 or 2 thirty in the afternoon on the weekdays and school didnt let out until 3pm. So the only way I could see an episode here and there was if I was sick, on vacation, or cut out of school early. I think the ratings would have been better if they only aired it at a time when we kids could see it. And I had the maddest crush on Kelly!!! (who didnt?)
According to wikipedia, Kelly was crowned Miss California, USA in 1986. Her last appearance was on Star Search in 1986. She has since left show business and today works as a hairdresser in Los Angeles. (also I saw some mention of her getting married in 2001, but I dont know if thats true or not)
Hi this video reminded me of my childhood thanks for uploading, I saw this program at age 5 in 1979 and shouted up mickey, mickey I saw it up here in Monterrey Mexico
woooow. And good ole Lisa Whelchel. LOL! Man, I always wanted one of those frisbees. Used to have this on vinyl. I wanted to be a mousekeeter so bad!!!
My friends and I liked Julie Piekarski most of all. We thought she was the "best overall" and liked how she wore her pretty blonde hair in banana-curl pigtails. Watching these clips now, it's easy to see that Julie was FAR and away the best dancer of the group. Kelly Parsons, who was beautiful beyond her years, was our second favorite. Remember how different & 'glamorous' she looked on the album cover compared to her appearances on the show?
I used to also rush home from high school to watch it. My older siblings grew up on the original MMC during the 50's. Never did get to see the 90's ones because cable wasn't in our town yet. Boy this brought back memories. The looks on the kids faces are so fake and corny.
Scott has also died. The show was very good to us kids then. It was on WGN Chicago. I watched it everyday. Doesn't appear as spit polished as somethings are today but then this video quality isn't great. I thought their theme songs were good. I liked "Surprise Day" the best
The series' 130 episodes were deposited in the Library Of Congress because Walt Disney Productions donated video copies directly to them. I've read the 1979 hardcover catalog the Library published ["Three Decades Of Television"], and each episode is listed in their collection as of that period...
There had been enough interest in the syndicated repeats of the original "MICKEY MOUSE CLUB" [January '75-January '77] for Disney to produce a new "updated" version for January 1977, 'palmer'. 130 episodes were taped, and stretched out over a two-year period. Lack of national ad support {brought on by Peggy Charren's "Action For Children's Television" group protesting that sponsors were pushing too many "junk products" on kids' TV shows at the time} finally did this series in, in January 1979.
This show was only picked up by 38 TV stations when it first aired. Independent stations obviously had to have been the main carriers of this show, which back then were mostly on UHF and hard for most people to get without cable for which was not accessible to everyone back then. Smaller markets were not capable of supporting independents and combining that with lower ad revenue made the show out of reach for smaller TV stations. There just wasn't enough opportunity for this show to succeed.
I miss the Vault Disney block that Disney Channel used to have. Really great old-school Disney stuff. It's since been discontinued and now we get to see Hannah Montana (ugh!) at 1 in the morning...
The background on my page is Naima of America's Next Top Model. The girls that season posed as the Seven Deadly sins, Naima was envy. She is in a real casket and at the bottom of an open grave.
I was 11 in 1977. Nita Dee (Benita di Giampaolo) was one of my first crushes. I rarely ever missed "NMMC". I heard that Nita is now a social worker in California. The polyester is kind of silly in retrospect, but it was the '70s. Unfortunately, Angel died of AIDS a few years ago. R.I.P.
I read that Kelly Parsons is working as a hairdresser. She's won some prizes as a beuaty contestant. Yes, I admired her hair, eyes, smile and stature.
All 130 episodes of "THE NEW MICKEY MOUSE CLUB" are on deposit at the Library Of Congress in Washington, D.C.- you'd have a better chance of reserving time there and seeing full episodes than waiting for Disney to release them on home video!
really? i would think that this mickey mouse club version wouldn't have been as important as the first and last one.especially since this one didn't last so long.how did it get into the library of congress
This is great I used to watch this every time it was on when I was a kid. Watching now is a hoot. notice the Aisan kid doing karate and and the black kid dribbling a basketball. I love it! THANKS for posting this
This brought so much memories, i've even cried while watching it. Thanks a billion for posting this. God! I was about 7 or 8 y.o. back then, but it all came back to me just like that. Once again, thank you so very much!
WOW! I watched these as a kid! I had the Soundtrack album! I haven't seen these in 30 years! This is the coolest thing I ever saw! I even remembered some of there names and the words to the songs. OMG I remember having a BIG crush on Shawntee from this show when i was about 8 or 9.lol Shes still a beautiful woman today. The 70s mickey mouse club was the best version.

Oh, and Disney Channel practically stinks now compared to what it was 15-20 years ago. I still enjoy watching it (being as old as I am), but it used to be better. Like they say, "Disney really grows on you".
Thanks for posting this. It sure brings back memories of when I was 7 years old! I thought I would never in my life see this again! THANK YOU THANK YOU !! OH I hope they would bring this out on DVD. My 7 year old daughter is enjoying this too, but like I said on another post, she doesn't understand that mommy was 7 years old at one time. LOL
I agree with the critic, I'd love to see the other four days. I'm too young to have seen this on TV, but I had an NMMC LP, and listened to it repeatedly. I love all of the "Day" songs and hope that more NMMC appears on YouTube!
