  • you know this song is awesome when there's an epic fist pump

  • I love this song, I sing this song around family & friends, but they don't know what the hell I'm singing..lol. I like this version as well as the LP Version but to be honest I think those horns are perfect for the LP version. Without the horns are perfect for this live version because lt gave Phil more room to add in "Shit" (I added it many times while singing this song) & a little finesse to the song. I thought it was Phil playing those drums (Dude was whipping the shit out of the drums).

  • This is a really sweet version. No horns, no overdubs, basically the demo version of the song. Shows that a great tune can stand on its own without a lot of flash. Very tasty.

  • offel to studio version. putred!

  • Pretty badass. Nice guitar work.

  • Real nice live version.

  • NOOOO

    ONE sings em like PHIL!!

  • @GunGemini "You sing them like I do but you don´t PERFORM them the way I do."

    - Peter Gabriel to Phil during the "Six of the best" Genesis reunion.

  • yessssssssssssss

  • Total bovine manure.

  • Amazing...no elaborate costumes, dancing, back up singers, stage, or even complex voice altering computer and this is STILL a great band and concert!!!! I miss this kind of music!!!!!!

  • give simon or rod or one of your friends in the bay area a call-so you dont get in trouble.

  • Tony Banks is one crazy dude.

  • The funny part is...I like Peter Gabriel, but only as a solo act. For Genesis songs, I've always liked Phil Collins better, somehow his voice blends better with the Genesis sound while Peter sounded forced in a way. I think it's best that Peter went solo because it helped his progress as a singer while giving Genesis room to grow with Phil, who took Genesis further than it would have gotten otherwise. Just my two cents.....

  • i love this song i have not head this for maybe 20 years

  • So much better without all those horns.

Best version I've ever heard. Horns are too happy-sounding on this song -- and it's not a happy song at all.

  • WOW THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BASS....ALAMBIC BASSES.....OVER MY BUDGET

    SYLVAIN FROM MONTREAL

  • I love part 3:26..Listen to me, why don't you ever listen to me!

  • Phil Collins......What a cool mother fucker!!!!!!

  • kristi: i tried to call matty ..no reply at all..its out of her reach...shes quite a fat pig for a change....like i care when she gets home and nudges me...shes a no life cow...yessenia and her are pals now...even ale likes her...i love to smell mathboys farts from cantaloupe and roast beef ...with a hint of paprika and thyme...naomi hasnt talked to me in days..im worried...maybe this video will help me when im shoving kfc down my throat at 4am ... i can waddle my fat ass to the toilet

  • philip, wash your mouth out with soap!

  • when we asked for them to come back on tour there was no reply at all.

  • The bridge to this song is one of the best performances on Phils part in genesis history. Such a great build up.

  • Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Love it when a band can preform a song and it sounds better than it does on wax

  • I've never heard Phil cuss in a song before. That was cool. Phil is sexy!

  • What the heck happened to the actual music video?? It was on here for ages, I miss it. D:

  • I luv Phil!!! Damn this sound soooooo good!! I luv when music makes me feel that way!!

  • This is a great song but when I watched it I got the strong urge to fight Phil Collins. I could take........ Back then.

  • One of my all time faves, but I find it odd he shaves his face, but not his neck.

    Very offputting.

No excuse for poor grooming. Rock star or not.

She didn't reply at all because he didn't shave his neck at all.

  • @HedgehogPhil That was precisely the reason why I hung up my 1981 Genesis on my wall, Phil's neck. The reason I took it off was when he started to sing garbage from You Can't Hurry Love to I Can't Dance. But he was also singing beautiful classics between them

  • He was some kind of sexy in his day. You can't fake the prime of life and he had it going on.....imho

  • Love, Love ,Love Genesis!!! Spare of a thought what could I write? Loved this song always !!!! tyvm indeed, Genesis and mr Phil Collins xoxox

  • some great banks statements here.

  • I wonder why Mike wanted to play the Bass on this Song ?

on Me and Sarah Jane, Abacab and Dodo he had no problems playing the lead guitar ?

  • MONEY DONT MEAN EVERYTHING, I FEEL HE WAS WITH MAYBE A WOMAN WHO DIDNT UNDERSTAND THAT

  • I like cheeseburgers.

  • played this dvd the other night.still feel good about it.

  • Who in the hell could ever dislike this video??

  • i was listenin to the radio today (some soft rock station) and some guy called in and requested this song (how random) and they played it and i was like "awwww yeaaah!!!"

  • Best bass player of all time.

  • I INSTANTLY PRESSED THE LIKE BUTTON AS SOON AS I SAW THE BLACK DRUMMER!

  • @SMILEY7414 here's a reply: phil fired his ass and took over on drums!

  • Seems your uncle wasn't a very good businessman if he actually did write this song!!

  • Is Phil wearing sweatpants?

  • .... this OWNS.... ;p

  • 3 losers

  • there are three dead men apparently

  • "shit, there's no reply at all" ??? love p.c.!

  • Such a good band!

  • My uncle Colin actually wrote this song, Phil Collins paid my uncle £40 to take it off his hands.

  • Something about this song rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's the weird cadence of Phil's wording compaired to what they are playing. The music is a little too busy, and Phil is singing a bit too slow for the tempo. It's weird to me, but once they get to the "no reply at all" chorus, everything fits great.

  • Thank you... I love this song live only...haha...

  • Phil Collins at his peak right here voice wise, and playing wise

  • Mike is killing me with that Alembic bass. Tearing it up!!

  • i love phil collins face at 3:27, so good!

  • Did Phil Collins just cuss on the 1:20/1:21 mark?

  • this is when Collins came into his own as a vocalist... not Gabriel... but still sounds great...

  • Sexy Asian women **busizz4me.info**

  • "SHIT, there's no reply at all" sick!

  • it was cut short at the end

  • i just felt a major déja vu, when i listened this song, you see i was in an independence day ball yesterday, i asked, the girl i like to dance with me and she turned me down. Now that i heard "dance with me, you never dance with me. It feels like i cant move". It feels quite crappy.

  • I LUV GENISIS!!!!!!!!!

  • What's with the wristbands Phil? That's soooo 80s.

  • @birdmantd I still wear wristbands now (as of 2010), and I'm 22! :)

  • Is that the "I Can't Dance Walk" I see from 0:03-0:11!?

(PS: Heard this song on the radio a few days ago. Its just lovely.)

  • @gregandrob Yes, it really looks like it's the "Can't Dance Walk" ten years before "We Can't Dance". Amazing to say the least..

  • I'm getting old and my mind must be going. Twenty-five years ago I had this album and I had forgotten how much I loved Genesis.

Thank you for posting the Three Sides Live videos!

  • needs the horns man, where are the horns.

  • @mooseymoo1 They did use the horns on the short tour after this one in 1982 for only three concerts...they also played paperlate with the horns three times.

  • @mooseymoo1 what?? the guitar is good only needs more overdrive!!!

  • @mooseymoo1 They were all dried up. Just listen to Philip at 3:14 "With all the excess semen!"

  • The greatest performance of this song EVER!

  • Year?

  • i really want to find a studio version can anyone help me?

  • @brhoadshockey1 Yeah, go on itunes or go to amazon.com to find the abacab CD

  • @brhoadshockey1 copyrights. poeple uploaded it several times and took it off

  • @brhoadshockey1 It's on the album Abacab - Track 2 :)

  • @brhoadshockey1 ya, Buy the album.

  • Collins voice is great!

  • I love how he adds that "shit" at 1:22 LOL

  • Hear the Roland 808 chugging along behind Chester ? cool.

Phil Collins was one of the only people outside of techno/dance music that knew how the 808 could have been used back then.

  • I love the "Dance with me" part. He's so cute <3

  • I can watch this over and over and it NEVER gets old! Amazing, sexy, mmmmm.... LOVE this song and video!

  • shit there's no reply at all xDD

  • For some strange reason, this song has been stuck in my head all day...

  • i love this song!

  • Mr. Collins, love your work, your talent, and flexibility; seems you're able to do rock, pop, and easy listening. Keep up the great work.

Aren't you a drummer when you're with Genesis? It's all good!!!!

  • Beautiful music.

  • This is great footage. Mike is amazing. Does anyone know where the Behind the Lines video from this concert went? It was one of my favorite YouTube uploads.

  • @etkearne The Behind the Lines, Duchess, Man on the Corner, Turn it on Again, Mama, That's All, the Brazillian Videos were removed from my channel because They all contained audio that were used on official live albums released by the band. (Three Sides Live, The Way We Walk: The Shorts, Archive II)

  • What a great song! I LOVE genesis!

  • damn Phil's got some vocal range!

  • How deep, I was searching for this song sooo long just got it on LP but now on cd tyvm Gen xoxox

  • 2:43 :D

  • thanks for the upload.....i love genesis

  • HIt#2 rock, #29 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • I like this song. It has a catchy beat. When will this group be inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame???

  • @brothacoffee they were just inducted this year....phish played this song at the induction.

  • The passion in his voice on this song is amazing!

  • Genesis is amazing. Phil Collins is the true king of pop!

  • I'm gonna go get me some wristbands like Phil! Then everyone can just eat a big bag of shit!!

  • Phil has a very unique voice. Can't understand why they don't want to perform these songs anymore. HELLO!? Guys! You're not getting any younger!!

  • peter gabriel is genesis.

  • @deliciousmorton WAS Genesis. He left in 1975 long before any of their success. :) lol

  • it's kinda awesome to see that Phil Collins live performance is always ok. Many singers are not the same when are in front of so many people.

  • 3:01 PHIL!

  • I think Bulldog means the Abacab original version, with the Phenix horns...I just looked for it too, but no go.

  • LOVE Genesis! This is my favorite song by them.

  • Phil's theatrics are fantastic - lmao when he curses!!! Thank you so much for posting this - just great. Have fun - peace ;.)

  • Great tune!

    Great band!

    (Wrist bands... not so great.)

  • Great tune!

    Great band!

    (Wrist bands... not so great.)

  • Buy the new CD/DVD disks with 5.1 surround sound!!!

  • this song may be about his ex wife

  • Yep! That's why he had to fax her!

  • I saw Genesis in 1982 Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, NYC when the EWF horns played on this song and "Paperlate" ... then Genesis broke into all of "Supper's Ready" then after that epic, into "Misunderstanding" ... talk about pleasing the old and new fans.

  • Is there any of the original recording on youtube?

  • im sorry, im not quite sure what you're asking.

  • I mean is there just the studio version from "Abacab" anywhere on youtube?

  • @PhilGenesisDB maybe he means the album version

  • @bulldog1447 VEVO claimed them all. The videos, anyway. I hate vevo so much.

  • Phil's voice is golden. Vivid stage presence.

  • i know this has probably been said and this is a great version of this song, but it lacks without EWF powerful brass section...

  • @bluciano67 Agreed. Without the brass,it lacks.

  • sometimes i sorta wonder what Genesis would be like if Gabriel was still there...but this is a good newer one, sweet strong bass line, nicely done.

  • One of Mike's best Bass Lines...

  • genius how the backbeat is a uptempo-16th-beat, but the handclaps make it slow-tempo-feel.

they did the same trick later on "i can´t dance".

  • This live performance is AWESOME. Really cool. Phil Collins rocks. Tony Banks jams on keyboards.

  • This live performance stinks. The original recording is excellent, but you can't take EW & F with you on tour for just one song, I suppose. Their live performances improved over the years, though.

  • i heard this on the radio and for the past hour i went through wiki, and all kinds of lyric websites to find it...alas..i found it finally..

    Soooo good.

  • Look at me, you never look at me...

Ooh, I've been sitting, staring, seems so long...but you're looking through me like I wasn't here at all...

  • There's something strangely sexy about Phil in this video...

  • Maybe the fact that he is 30 years old in this video !!!

  • I agree! I was thinking the exact same thing... Normally I find him unattractive but here he is lookin' real fine.

  • So, Peter Gabriel is a cloud cuckoolander, Phil Collins is the immature one who thinks that swearing is funny, and Ray Wilson's the one who nobody gives a damn about for no freakinj' retarded reason.

  • i believe daryl steurmer plays a fender strat

  • @psvs1 It's a Suntec Stratocaster rather than a Fender.

  • Abacab....20 years ahead of it's time....... great bass line in this one!!!! Rutherford rocks!

  • Eric suess sucks

  • What kinda guitar is Daryl Steurmer using? I know,I used to have one.

  • Does he say, "Shit" at the 1:20 mark?

  • Wow... He does.

  • yes and again at 3:40ish

  • It's Phil Collins, so of course he says shit.

  • lol @ 3:27

    that was a shexi look!!!

  • ¡Extraordinario tema!

    Extraordinary song!

  • deffinetly one of my favorite bands of all time <3

  • yeah

    Genesis ;P

The best genesis in my opinion is the gabriel era with Phil of course ;P

  • Phil is a great entertainer on the mic, but this song has good drums by him. Im bummed he isnt playing them here and also i can no longer find the original video on youtube. :(

  • this song is even better now that ive seen this live version. phil is hardcore

  • my fave Genesis track for sure. brilliant.

  • what a great tune

also what a great shot when Phil looks at the camera!

  • Oops--they cut the song at the end. IMO, this is when Phil was at his peak as a singer (1980-83). Also, I like the "regular guys look"--it's like they went on stage in what they had worn all day (as compared to the awful Miami Vice look they sported on the Invisible Touch tour). Final comment: it's hard to believe this song was hated so much by old schoolers, especially given the crap that was to come on the IT album.

  • FUCKING AWESOME !!

  • Great bassline by MIke Rutherford. One of the best ever

  • what a fucking awesome band and a awesome song.thats for the hook up.good times

  • Tony goes all cross-hands on the Prophet 10. Something he hadn't really done since The Lamb :o)

  • phil can still hammer out the hits!

  • laser disc my uncle got 1 of the machines

  • genesis is so awesome! i believe they are truly underrated.

  • OMFG. They removed the fucking studio version. Warner can BURN. IN. HELL.

  • can anyone explain why this seems to be the only song not on the "Three Sides Live" CD...I'd love to be able to listen to this somewhere other than Youtube! Thanks for any help!

  • I don't know if it's exactly this version, but there is a live version of this from this tour on the Archive 2 1976-1992 box set

  • Thanks for the info! I just love the energy in this version...it's hard for me to listen to the studio recording after this.

  • Comment removed

  • Daryl do a amazing job replacement the horns with his guitar. And all the bass playesrs in the world have to recognise that the play of Mike in this one is simply killing!!!

  • Fuckin' grooving tune from 1981!!!!!!!

  • does anyone know why this song isnt on any of the greatest hits cd's...? I like phil collins and genesis but im not going to buy every album...This is one of my favorites but isnt on any of the greatest hits cds...

  • Your question deserves NO REPLY AT ALL, but i'll tell you this just buy the album it's basically a greatest hits album. You will not be let down. But if you're one of those people that believe all good music should be on a copilation, It's a good thing you afforded yourself a computer.
