The effect wich is used here is the Electro Harmonix BIG MUFF Pi (no matter wich version) i recommend it for muse bass lines, Chris Wolstenholme uses it very often, also for the famous Hysteria bassline for example.

@dimlebrules: its just groups of three chromatic notes (A=12-13-14-12-13-14-12-13-14) that are played really fast. A bunch of them are out of tune, but if the rule is that if you play chromatic runs fast enough, you'll always hit at least a few notes that are in key, and therefore sound in-tune to most people. Not much, really...

Yeah, but there are schools for filmmakers, actors, DVDs teaching you how to 'visualise' success, self-help books on how to be a pick-up artist... it's about the end result. Yeah, learning good technique is gonna be the better thing for the majority of the public to do. you play it loads of different ways, this is justs the way chris plays it.

the one on ultimate-guitar uses the open a string instead of 5 on the e string and 2 on the a string instead of 7 on the e string. sounds the same really, but i like this way better.
