@memstar9 i agree Mozart should be credited for composing such beautiful pieces but amazing performers should not be overlooked because they are the ones keeping his music alive :)
In music, a cadenza (from Italian: cadenza, meaning cadence) is, generically, an improvised or written-out ornamental passage played or sung by a soloist or soloists, usually in a "free" rhythmic style, and often allowing for virtuosic display. Note the word 'usually' and 'or written out'.
What a shame Mozart only wrote 5 Violin concertos...What musical growth from the first, these 3 movements in the 3rd is one of my favorites of Mozart's. Just perfect!
@5inthehole ahh yes my mistake, i have "mozart concerto 7" on my computer but it was found later to be fraudulently penned under his name. and though it doesn't sound like mozart, the piece itself is great i would recommend it
@violinsolo2 No he didn't. He wrote many symphonies which have the violin in them, but as far as concerto's (a single instrument play against the org.) he only wrote 5. Infact he wrote them relatively early in his musical career. Google it and find out.
I love this piece, I'm not a big fan of Mozart, but this is an extremely fun piece to play, though unusually difficult for how simple the melodic line is. I played this for my college auditions my teacher almost killed me during the timed we prepared it.
A hold over a note with no harmony or very simple harmony can often signal that a cadenza is both acceptable and highly suggestible to lead into the repeat. I actually have this cadenza written in my music (by the publisher).
Surely, a more appealing and vigorous presentation - whilst maintaining its artistic qality - than of those I have heard so far recently of this movement. It is a marvellous performance, indeed.
Composers NEVER write cadenzas. Let me slap you, please. A cadenza means specifically a solo made, written and performed by the soloist with nothing but a theme to go off of by the composer. Meaning that in the origininal music at most it would say "cadenza" then below have the original theme for reference. Only modern scores have written in cadenzas because classical musicians have given up on the art of playing their own cadenza so use another soloist interpretation that has been dictated.
@Tiavioli Do you happen to have the score of this? I have been looking for it on International Music Sheet Library Pro (IMSLP) but can't find the right edition - well, actually, the right cadenza - anywhere.
they both look the same...

yeah the cadenza is a bit different
there is a revised version and then there's the full version
but some people might use different publishers' sheet music..

Mendellsohn wrote the Cadenza for his Violin Concerto in E Minor. And it's a doozy. There are always exceptions. Don't ever say NEVER.

What is Perlman doing at 5:08? A mini-cadenza? in my music, there is just a fermata over the G halfnote. Is what Perlman is doing improvised?

there's a spot for a cadenza before the recapitulation

he play a cadenza written by andrew manze. A shorter one version.

@msopher It's customary to play a little cadenza there. It's probably quasi-improvised here.
