Holy crap!!! what does that bike weigh? either that man is gigantic, or that bike is physically small for the displacement. i wanna ride one!!! not sure if i dream of owning one. I cant help but think that even if i could get my hands on one in North America, it would be a nightmare to get parts to maintain it.
The engine is based on the 685 Zabel built in Germay. Zabel started building 610 conversions for the old 500 Maico engine, then built a 620 of his own based on the Maico design. A 685 version followed, being replaced in 1998 with a 700 version.
Zabel passed the 685 design to Maico which they sell in a solo crosser sometimes badged as a 700... The 700cc Zabel version have a hydaulic clutch whilst the 685 version was cable clutch :-)

Beast bike but why? parts are prolly impossible to get, take 6 months to recieve, and make you re finance your house... better off with a fully tricked 500 from kawi or honda. save money and be practical. but sure its a "head turner"... whatever floats your boat man. still like my 450f.
How much was this bike used? Also, is it me or does it sound like it doesn't wind out? How's the power feel looks like it's responsive much like a 4 stroke.

@fighter4christ7 You can't go any faster than the sprockets and transmission are geared for, they only rev to x RPM and spinning gears at X RPM can only go Y Speed.
@tobyeo Yes I know. And I have seen with my own eyes a 500 do 130. You can even watch 1 here on utube with a cop speed meter. I have a 500 myself that I just rebuilt. Haven't found a straight away long enough for top speed but I can tell you I know I've at least done 90 on it so far.
@fighter4christ7 MX bikes are typically geared to 80 MPH, stock. The 700 is a close ratio machine, 1st gear is about 50 and 5th gear is about 80. You have to change the gear ratios to go higher. CR500's, etc. are all the same. They have to change the gear ratios to go higher. Bikes made for enduro as big bores are geared to 90MPH+, like the Maico 490 Sand Spider is geared stock to 115mph. This is an MX bike, they have close ratios and they are not geared for distance but for tight track

@Laxbro37 Quite the opposite, that frame isnt cheap aluminum, it's alloy and pretty well built. The suspension is all the best on the market as well, that Rieger shock beats anything on the stock jap bikes. The Maico engine is also light years better than what the japs come up with.
@Laxbro37 Euro metal is much better quality. The Maico cases on my older maicos are like concrete compared to the japanese bikes. When I put bearings in it was easy to heat the japanese cases and drop them in, but I had a hell of a time getting the Maico bearings in because the metal is so strong doesnt expand as fast. When I redid the crank in my 86 I asked the bore guy the life on it. he said if it was a jap bike maybe 1 more ride, but since its euro could last forever, who knows.
@Laxbro37 Note also a lot of problems with the older jap bikes. XR's would mess up transmissions, CR's would always wear down 2nd gear (had a few Hondas that happened to), YZ490's would ping and be hard to start all the time, KX500's would sieze constantly. There are some good bikes tho that last a long time and generally are reliable, however theyve definately made their fair share of lemons.
@tobyeo we have a 1978 maico mc 250, its my fathers bike, and i myself have a 97 rm 250, and i have to say that between the two the maico is lightyears ahead of the jap bike i have, and is quite technologically superior considering how old it is compared to my suzuki, the technology on the 78 maico looks A LOT LIKE my 97, now tell me who should be more advanced if maico has been building bikes like that for that long.

@marcvdwouw There is only 2 minutes of the video where he was riding. When you are not on the bike and the bike is not moving, it's not considered riding it. Kinda hard to ride a dirtbike in the youtube comments section, but perhaps you should try it soemday.

This is an MX bike, they have close ratios and they are not geared for distance but for tight track

This is just my opinion.
Maico seams to be a bit low quality and not as well made as the Japanese bikes.
I think you could get a lot better bike for the same price as a Maico.
Looks nice though.

@Laxbro37 Quite the opposite, that frame isnt cheap aluminum, it's alloy and pretty well built. The suspension is all the best on the market as well, that Rieger shock beats anything on the stock jap bikes. The Maico engine is also light years better than what the japs come up with.

@Laxbro37 Euro metal is much better quality. The Maico cases on my older maicos are like concrete compared to the japanese bikes. When I put bearings in it was easy to heat the japanese cases and drop them in, but I had a hell of a time getting the Maico bearings in because the metal is so strong doesnt expand as fast. When I redid the crank in my 86 I asked the bore guy the life on it. he said if it was a jap bike maybe 1 more ride, but since its euro could last forever, who knows.

@Laxbro37 Note also a lot of problems with the older jap bikes. XR's would mess up transmissions, CR's would always wear down 2nd gear (had a few Hondas that happened to), YZ490's would ping and be hard to start all the time, KX500's would sieze constantly. There are some good bikes tho that last a long time and generally are reliable, however theyve definately made their fair share of lemons.

@tobyeo we have a 1978 maico mc 250, its my fathers bike, and i myself have a 97 rm 250, and i have to say that between the two the maico is lightyears ahead of the jap bike i have, and is quite technologically superior considering how old it is compared to my suzuki, the technology on the 78 maico looks A LOT LIKE my 97, now tell me who should be more advanced if maico has been building bikes like that for that long.

@marcvdwouw There is only 2 minutes of the video where he was riding. When you are not on the bike and the bike is not moving, it's not considered riding it. Kinda hard to ride a dirtbike in the youtube comments section, but perhaps you should try it soemday.

@tobyeo dont tell me what to do, i do race motocross and i love it, but you need to learn on a smaller bike and learn how to make the bike work, not get on the biggest bike you can find and be scared of the powerband.

@suzukiktm100 people like you are the scum of the internet, you are on every single video out here, handing out "advice" like you were paid to do so, were in this video did you see anybody asking for help? just because you have a big bike don't mean you can only ride it wide open throttle, ever heard of throttle control? go on a tight single track trail on ANY bike and try to ride it wide open, and tape it so we can see how "skilled" you are before we offer you our "advice"

@suzukiktm100 I probably overreacted, but it's true, go and check out some random dirtbike vids that's gotten a few views, there is ALWAYS some guy saying "you need a smaller bike" or "you ride like a girl" or something like that, everyone is better than everybody else on youtube, opinions and advice are never wanted unless stated.
if random people came up to me on the street and critizized me for my choice of car everyday I'd end up punching a fucker in the face, you would too.
