  • Please someone tell me, when the person takes the paper from Naseeruddin/Mirza Ghalib and looks over it to see nothing on it, does it mean that Mirza Ghalib ad-libbed this wonderful ghazal!? If it was an extempore effort, then its more extraordinary than Mirza Ghalib's already extraordinary shayri! And, if this was normal for Ghalib, then I have a new found respect for him. Please clarify someone.

  • @VegitoGogita

Actually in the drama series mirza ghalib there was a scene where Ustad Zauq's ( the one in green outfit) carriage was passing from the market and ghalib made a comment "bana hai shah ka musaheb phire hai itrzata" ( roughly translated- after becoming king's friend this man has become proud and showy) ..zauq complained to bahadur shah zafar

  • @VegitoGogita (continued)about this and the emporer asked ghalib so ghalib said that I was reading a ghazal to my friend when ustad's carriage was passing through..so they insisted on listening the whole ghazal and hence ghalib said all that...

It was shown in the drama ..I have no idea about its historical accuracy...

  • @sameemazahra Thank you sameemazahra for the clarification. But what is still not clear to me is whether Mirza Ghalib composed the ghazal improomptu in the court itself.

  • @VegitoGogita ..yes ..that is what was shown in the drama...he was in a situation where he was accused of insulting the emporer's teacher..he defended by saying that I was reading my ghazal (which was not true) so they asked him to read the whole sher (which was not there) he made it instantly.. then they asked for the whole ghazal ( which was not composed) and he composed it in the court itself...and it is indeed one of his best ghazal...

  • I would love to know what are people's interpretation of 'RagoN mein daudne ke hum nahi kaayal, jab aankh hi se na tapka to phir lahoo kya hai'? I somewhat feel it's like "just transcend out of the usual, and do something which has not been done before ...(or which is very very difficult to do)". What do you guys think of it's meaning from your perspective?

  • @psoni6 very well said sir!! i wasn't able to get what it line was intended to say but yeah the only possible interpretation is this one..

  • Excellent is every way!

  • This is where Chitra beats Lata HANDS DOWN, listen to lata's singing this song...She sounds like like amateur compared to Chitra

    Bay-shak!!!!

Ghalib ka andaaz-e-bayan waqai sab se munfarid hay

  • subtitles arnt accurate

  • @abubaker4

    There are some inaccuracies.

However it serves the purpose in conveying the meaning to a wider audience.

  • @TheUrdupoets but it loses out on the real beauty of the verses...

Har ek baat pe kehto ho 'tum' : ki 'tu' kya hai?

"On everything that I say, YOU say : what are you?"

(for non-Urdu speakers: The YOU and you used in the two places suggest different degrees of respect, just like the 'vous' and 'tu' used in French. Hence the second line completes this play of words perfectly)

Tum hi kaho ke, yeh andaaz-e-guftagoo kya hai?

"YOU tell me, what way of speaking, is this?"

  • @zarbekaleem1
