It's good on paper, not so good in practice. Considerable military expenditure is expected of big nations (to protect their vast lands), and USSR was one of them. However, it was not the reason for dissolution of USSR and resulting chaos of the 90's.

Worth noting that we have only lost about 1500 troops in 9 years, compared to russia losing 25,000 in 10 years in that country

It's not comparable to US yet, no, but one has to realize that almost the entire developing world is slaving and sweating for US markets. What with the vast, enormously wealthy land expanses, puckingly large amounts of natural resources and a large and diverse population, Russia has no choice but be a grand nation. In fact, Russia is projected to be re-emering as a superpower.

They military maneuvers prove that they are incapable of large scale military actions, even their high ranked military personell admits that. Whether that will change in the future that is to be seen, but today except for nukes they are as broke as rest of the worlds military.

В общем автор сего опуса с таким одиозным назаванием ( которое, к стати, написано с ошибкой) проделал неслабую работу, нарезав кучу кадров из различный популярных передач, художественных фильмов и прочее.Автор гордится тем, что ему показали по телевизору и ведущие рассказали что это круто :) на самом деле техника показана в кадре или старая, не снятая с вооружения из финансовых соображений, или опытные образцы, не принятые на вооружение.

Both countries have enough nuclear weapons to kill everyone on the planet 20 times over....both know it...and neither would ever use a nuke on each other. They wouldn't even fire a conventional icbm in fear of triggering a nuclear war.

Russia and China know this which is why in 2008 they tried deperately to get the US to sign a treaty to stop weapons and countermeasures being deployed in space....US did not sign the treaty.
Google "2008 space weapons treaty" for more info. Basically Russia knows that to keep up, they would have to sacrifice their economy like in the cold war which crippled the USSR.

@TheAlexagius we had fully invaded afghanistan within a few weeks with only a handfull of special ops troops calling in air support.
In one particular battle, 11 special forces troops on the ground continually called in air support and laser spotted targets when they were fighting 500 taliban troops and vehicles. They did not lose 1 man, but wiped out 500 taliban.
Worth noting that we have only lost about 1500 troops in 9 years, compared to russia losing 25,000 in 10 years in that country
