The Venture was one of the refit Galaxy's with a strip of Phaser Arrays on the necells. It and the Galaxy did a lot of work destroying Dominion ship and Cardassian weapons array. It was the first time I saw two phasers from one array. I just wish they had armed it with quantum torpedos .
That class might have been made for a more peaceful era but, she acquitted herself quite well in battle as well. Not many capital ship classes can claim to have saved the Federation from the Borg & win the Dominion War as well.
O.K., I know this will generate comments, but my favourite Galaxy class was the alternate Enterprise in "All Good Things" that was commanded by Admiral Riker.
Rilfeman80-very good work. The Venture is a great ship indeed. It is my thought that after the Dominion War the Galaxy were upgraded to that status.
jnadreth-if the Odyessy had a competent Captain she would be alive-Sisko did warn Captain Keough about the Jem Hadar-he chose not to listen.-the Yamato was an accident-if Captain Varley had the right idea; he just went about it in the wrong way.
The Venture is probably the only Galaxy Class I like as it was the only one not to be completely clobbered by the Dominion. The Oddessy got pwned, that Galaxy that fired on those Cardassian ODP's suffered extreme damage, Yamato and Enterprise were destroyed-The Venture is truly the strongest out of her class
The Dominion tried to clobber the Venture, but the Venture clobbered them. A shop of greater power than the Defiant, just a bit larger and heavily armed.
@jnadrethIt would be a good fight. It depends on who got off the first intensive volleys first. Those Jem Hadar battleships were indeed huge, but they weren't all that invulnerable. I liked that DS9 scene when the Defiant was fleeing from a squad of JH fighting craft, there was a lone Klingon Vor Cha class attack cruiser stopped one in it's tracks and was pounding it with phasers.
@jnadreth Yes it is. I liked the dorsal phaser bank humps on the warp nacelles. It was a throwover from the TNG's last episode that featured the Dreadnaught style Enterprise. Magellen, Challenger, and Galaxy all made it back from the war as well.
@KJOSCOT Yes....those three Galaxy's made it back from the war....but the all would have had a shield refit along with every other ship/station when they captured that Dominion Bug fighter and figured out how to stop phased poloron weapons ;) The Galaxy class was a ship designed for a peaceful era hence why it had so many problems (In battle, Warp Core ejection failure etc etc)...the Venture is like the Connie refit....way more heavily armed and a much greater challenge :D
@jnadreth uh..i dont think so..the Galaxy class ships could whoop domininon ass any day of the week. A galaxy class ship was very battle ready and could withstand a fire fight quite well...St DS9 just played down her abilities to glorify the defiant. The Venture was not all that impressive to me...im sure it could have been but it was never shown firing multiple torpedo yields or saucer separation or even taking on a jem hadar battle cruiser. DS9 made it appear to be a weak ship.
@jnadreth The strongest galaxy class was obviously the enterprise D...she was damaged by the klingons only with the help of mad scientist soran..who helped the klingons obtain the enterprises shield modulation number..via jordys visor. As for the odyssey...her shields were useless against the dominion polaron beams...at the time..and even then the jem ha dar had to revert to a suicide run to win.
@jnadreth The yamato was destroyed by a highly advanced iconian technology. The iconians were even more advanced and more powerful than the dominion. I never liked st. DS9 because they always made the galaxy class starship appear weak and slow compared to dominion and even klingon ships. They just wanted the annoying defiant to have all the glory. The dominion got lucky that they never had to face the enterpise D...she would have whooped their ASSES.
@jnadreth fYI..THE Enterprise D also had phasor strips on her pylons...as seen in the battle with the borg in Bestof Both worlds...pt. 1. Galaxy class ships were very battle ready..with multiple photon torpedo yields...simultaneous phaser fire...and saucer separation abilities. It would have made more sense to fight the highly maneuverable jem hadar ships with the galaxy class star drives...DS9 never showed that in battle.
@jnadreth Not to mention..they never showed the Galaxys firing simultaneous photon torpode yields..which could have easily destroyed medium sized jem hadar battle ships and heavily damaged the large jem hadar battlecruisers. Again..they did not want the galaxy class overshadowing the miniscule defiant. I hate rick berman and all the ds9 producers for snubbing the galaxy class starship.
@jnadreth The war was won by utilizing the all of starfleets ships..but starfleets best most reliable weapon against the dominion was the galaxy class starship and the nebula class. There werent that many defiant class ships in service. The mirandas and excelsior class ships truly got clobbered by the dominion..they should have retired those ships years ago..lol.
@jnadreth Furthermore...starfleet had a lot of weapons that were never used against the Dominion that could have ended the war a lot sooner. The federation phase cloaking device could have single handedly helped wipe out the dominion fleets. Hell they could have also used dr. sorans trilithium weapons research to pulverize dominion star bases and ship yards. They could have also constructed thousand of androids like data...for greatrer efficiency and hand to hand combat scenarios.
@jnadreth I almost forgot..the Sovereign class starship was seldom used against the dominion...not sure why...the sovereign class would have easily blasted the jem hadar ships out of the skies. The sovereign class starship would have been more than a match for the jem hadar battleship. In your face jem hadar trash!
@rocco24a The sovereign class was still being constructed and there were not enough of them to fight but there was. The Galaxy class and she pawned all who opposed her
I like all the main ships from each series/movie but the Galaxy class will always be my favorite since I grew up watching Next Generation. Such a commanding presence and yet graceful at the same time.
I love the Venture so much that I pretty much bought rights to the ship, well not really, but she's my flagship.

I could never tell which Galaxy-class ship was which in DS9's fleet battles. Were the CG models even labeled with names and numbers?
Frost3784 6 months ago
@Frost3784
Venture can be distinguished by the extra phaser arrays on the upper side of the nacelles, which are large bumps.

@GameBoyTM101 It is, but that was from another time. The Venture was a forerunner of the technology used on the dreadnaught upgrade.

Very impressive! The venture is one those unsung heroes of Star Trek; the ship that has done almost everything, yet you hardly ever hear aboutn it.

The only thing the Dominion had that could kill the Venture was their 1200m Dreadnoughts-and that would be after one helluva fight
