My aunt and uncle live in the states, he can't get health care, smokes like a chimney, had testicle cancer and a bunch of other stuff... and owes a shit ton of money because he had his life saved.
@nstx27 no my friend u eat shit...from ur president and from all ur health care bills! i shall enjoy my freedom and my universal healthcare! =) thank you canada!
i am a Canadian and i would never switch for anything. 900$ for 1 stitch is a fucking joke when here its FREE! 0.0$ hmm im sure u can see the big up side to that. i dont know Americans harass us Canadians for having free health care and say that its a joke the joke is really on yu guys paying 900$ for 1 stitch. now i dont Hate Americans cool people funny cool to be around, but sometimes people go to far with what you all say
The latest ruse, or hoax, TO CASTRATE THE 4TH & 5TH AMENDMENTS OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS TO THE CONSTITUTION (as instituted by the humanitarians in police uniforms) is to demand entrance (without a warrant of course) into your home to conduct a "wellness check" because an anonymous & concerned tipster has reported troubling behavior on your property which, "by law," requires an immediate (i.e. urgent/emergency) police investigation entailing: search, interrogation, arrest & confiscation.
@ihatecanada32 why are we cunts...look at what you just said...its not our fault the u.s is going to shit and that we have a better health care system...you obviously aren't a smart person so shut the fuck up
NO way would I switch with Americans!! NO way!!! I've never waited for my son to get stitches for dirt bike accidents, or hockey injuries, etc. NEVER! NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!! never switch... Why would we? I have a decent job, so even if I lived in your ountry, I would probably have some benefits, but I believe in INTRINSIC rights to health care. My Mom was flown to a cardiac centre 500 miles away treated, etc, covered by the Province. WHY shouldn't it be? She's a citizen! Everyone in!
People who do not understand the Canadian Healthcare system, need not comment on it(McCain is insulting not only Canadians, but to a great extent his own people...and he wants to be president???)). I'm sure if you were to ask most of our U.S. brothers and sisters they would glady take free healthcare.
@FooManchuDingo Healthcare is NOT free. It's covered by taxes. Get that straight. But I'f rather be in a Canadian society, that covers everyone equally when it comes to health care, than a "survival of the fittest" mentality in the States. Just saying... We aren't perfect, but not too bad...
@ralphyization I understand it's covered by taxes, i pay enough of them, however heathcare is free to landed immigrants and people who pay little or no tax as well.
I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Testicular Cancer (it had spread to my lungs) when I was 17. Within 8 hours of my diagnosis I was in surgery to have the tumour removed. Within a week I had started my 3-month chemo program. I ended up having to pay $12.99 for a non-prescription medication. Everything else was covered. I would do anything to Keep my Canadian Health Insurance
I live in Canada and wow, I have had my apendix removed to many stitches to count. I have broke my hand also had 2 knee surgerys. The cost to me was nothing not a cent. We have a health care system that is rated very high in the world.Same Dr,s as america. You pay for a military and nasa,We dont. All the money you spend on the military costs soo much, that is your down fall
As a Canadian, I can't imagine a country- especially a Western country- that doesn't provide healthcare for all. It seems barbaric that only those with money are allowed access to treatment for ailments. I also can't imagine why there are those, like John McCain, who are opposed to a universal healthcare system. We are all human and we all will get sick/injured at some point in our lives. Therefore wouldn't a universal healthcare system benefit everyone?
I am Canadian and would not change our healthcare for ANYTHING. Americans are so focused on taxes taxes taxes. Our taxes are higher than others but you know what? Having the piece of mind that if I am sick or my child is sick or the homeless person at the end of our street is sick we can all walk into any hospital anywhere and not worry about the cost. We do have long wait times. I have had to wait as long as 8hrs and as short as 1hr. IT IS STILL WORTH THE PIECE OF MIND!!
Americans need to understand that "triage" doesn't mean putting those with more money ahead of the line, it means caring for those with the most immediate needs first. And I'm more than OK with that.
I have had 2 c-sections, my appendix out, tubes tied 4 wisdom teeth extracted, all this as an adult. When I was a child I had whooping cough and was in hospital for a month and I almost died from an asthma attack and was in hospital for a month. My son was in the hospital 3 times 1 for a broken arm,had 2 surgeries plus pneumonia and asthma. My husband was in hospital for diabetes 1 complications and a couple of bladder stones. These are just the emergencies and I have never seen a bill -ever
i would never trade our healthcare system here in canada i had to go to the er here once i was there for about an hour and a half and got 9 stitches for free beat 900 bucks anyday
I showed up to a packed ER one night, The Hospital was Full, (no beds anywhere), I was in A Fib & Congestive Heat Failure (at the age of 47), I was immediately pushed to the Front of the Line, put on IV & Cardiac Monitor with Blood Work taken & sent to the Lab within 15 minutes, I slept on a Stretcher for 24 Hours in ER monitored Constantly , till I got a bed in CCU, If you need Care, it's there, The system is Stretched, but it works, I thank God for it
My problem is when healthcare is a business, the focus is profits, nothing more. Why cure someone for $1000 when you can continue treating them for $100/month? There is NO incentive to fix the problems and anyone who's dealt with insurance of any kind knows they're not in it to help you.
If the private healthcare is so great, why are there so many people who hate it or had bad experiences from it? If you're right, every American should be grateful for their system. I am for mine!
Free health care fails and heres why, in most canadian hospitals you have to wait like 3 hours to see someone, What I like about the usa is that you can work an easy job from 9-5 on the weekdays, get the weekend off, and have the best health care in the world. The usa's system is clearly better.
@RUPERTDOUGLAS90 There is no such thing as "Free Health care".. We pay for it through our taxes. I'm British and Canadian so I guess I have a right to comment on both systems. NO WAY would I trade our tax funded, equal rights system for the American PRIVATE system. I'm a conservative and I LOVE the free market. That being said, Health care should NEVER be run through a free market system. Health care should be measured by need not wealth. The longest I've had to wait in a hospital.. 2hours.
@000snow000 From what I've experienced there aren't any fundamental differences between the Brit system and the Canadian system. American politicians will always work to discredit the advantages of both systems but from what I have experienced, they are both amazing healthcare systems.
@RUPERTDOUGLAS90 I'm going to guess you have either never been in a Canadian hospital, or were in for something exceedingly minor as compared to actual emergencies that needed to be addressed immediately.
@RUPERTDOUGLAS90 I've never waited that long in a hospital, ever. In fact, most people never need to go to a hospital because we believe in preventative care: we can see a doctor for any problem, any time (for free) and thus not let a problem become serious enough to warrant a stint in hospital.
canadas health care is not free we pay taxes for everything we have some of the highest taxes so its not really free but our system is really good we will never switch for the american its stupid
Who cares? I was born and raised in canada, and I fucking hate it here. If I could switch my Canadian passport for an american GREEN CARD (not even a passport, just permanent residency), i'd do it right now.
@batmanpronz Hopefully this is finding you now living somewhere in the United States. I hope you enjoy your new life down there, and please remember to not visit the country of your birth. Ever.
@batmanpronz Funny, I could pretend to be an American just to bash their system, but I have a bit more self-respect than that.
As for leaving the Canadian healthcare system for the American, I would love to... if I was a millionaire.. I have never had to wait more than 45 mins (even for minor treatment). I too am a conservative who believes in free enterprise. I work for a multi-billion dollar railroad and own a restaurant on the side.
@britethorn McCain has the gall to say that the healthcare is perfectly fine and that "I understand what people are going through". That's a bunch of rubbish! He never had o pay for health insurance so how could he possibly sympathise? :S I would NEVER switch health care systems with the US, even though I am American via birthright. Please watch my video response for more details.
In August of 2010, I had to have major chest reconstructive surgery. When I went to the doctor, everything was great. I actually ended up getting in EARLY...MONTHS early. And you know what? That surgery would have cost my family upwards of $15 000, and we paid 0. Thats right, ZERO dollars. Charged for NOTHING!!
As for waiting at the hospital, if you have a life threatening problem, they try the best to get you in RIGHT AWAY! You DONT sit in line. Id rather wait longer if it saves someones life.
I love free health care. I can go in and get one stitch absolutely free. Yeah here you would have to wait a few hours to get that stitch but people with a more urgent priority get in first. It isn't like if you came in with a stake through your abdomen would they make you wait 3 hours you would get in instantly. It isn't a big deal to me if my tax is going towards paying for medical bills for people who don't pay tax because I use the same medical care.
I wouldn't give up our Canada's Health care system for the USA system.....NEVER!!!! Yah I have had to wait in an emergency room for a while before, but who hasn't??? The only reason I was waiting is because there were people that were in more urgent need of attention then me, and that's fine...as long as I don't get a charged for it.
Canadian health care is excellent. The only exception is when you're talking about specialists as sometimes - with non-urgent cases - you can be waiting months to get in; a small price to pay. I believe the vast majority of Canadians would take Canadian health care over the American system if asked.
I'm now wondering of John McCain is a liar, of if he is ignorant. Interesting!
I am from Canada, and I would never change our health care with America. Only because nobody in a developed nation should ever have to worry about going bankrupt if they have a medical emergency. Everyone deserves the right to good health... we are a couple of the richest nations on earth, if the government is going to take my money anyway it should be used first and foremost to make sure that the everyone has access to good healthcare.
I live in Canada, and am happy with the healthcare, the scary thing about the American system is that it involves dealing with insurance companies - insurance companies are always trying to get out of paying for things, I wouldn't want an insurance company to be involved in any part of determining whether or not to treat me or charge me, I just want to be treated. It's not perfect in Canada, but no one is at risk of being denied.

NEVER EVER NEVER would i trade my healthcare for the American insurance system. What about the people with terrible dieases McCain? What about them? They are going to go bankrupt!! There is a BIG REASON you didn't become the President.
Hello from Canada, I have enjoyed free health care for my entire life. I wouldn't trade it for anything. John McCain has no goddamn idea what he is talking about. Plus, why would he care? He has healh care. Obviously doesn't give a shit about the rest of America. I can't believe people this stupid are in positions of power. Incredible. Man i feel sorry for you Americans. Please stop voting for these idiots
I had a hole in my chest the size of my fist. Well, not a hole, more of a dent. It was effecting my breathing (had it since birth). And in August of 2010, I got in EARLY for my surgery (by a few months). They had to place 2 bars in my chest to "pop it up". I had the best care ive ever had at a hospital, and they did such a great job. The surgery was major, would have cost tens of thousands of dollars, but we didn't have to pay ONE CENT. America needs this, it works well.
wait wait wait this guy paid 900 dollars and waited 3 hours to get one stitch in an American hospital for a cut finger in 3 hours in a Canadian hospital i walked in after dislocating my knee and had been looked after and had x rays done in the same amount of time it took this guy to get one stitch oh not to mention it cost me only 5 bucks for Advil for the pain and swelling and people seriously still have debates on which is better???
lately news canadian fuck trasvestis and they cant even realize they are tastin men jajajajajja, hahahajajajja, ask baijan ashur michael, look for him in facebook hes bald tall and stupid like every canadian, jajajjaa, likes drugs and hes proud of being soberm, cause he consumes cocaine, and red bull, jajajjaa but hes proud of being a man and cant realize between a whore and a trasvesti jajajajajjajajajajjajajajajajajajjajaja
Canadian resident here. Health care does not suck at all. So far, my family has had free vaccinations, free consults, free holter rental, blah blah blah... I think it also goes to the extent of having free surgery/ies (which hopefully will not EVER happen to anyone close to me).
I love my healthcare system. it works, and I can rest assured that I will be treated according to the severity of my illness, not the amount of money in the other guy's wallet.
I would prefer to have the american system. I also think they should have charged you more for using the emergency room for what is clearly not an emergency. I single stitch cut is what I would go to a clinic for (clinics are by far less costly as they require less equipment and the space is less valuable.) I think if I had to create a system then I would want a two tier system. One public funded and one private funded for those who can afford it. Best Regards Mate.
jajajajaj fuckin canadian, but not all of them are shit, just a few ones are good, but you wont see them here, cause they are busy givin a good education working hard to be happy, and asking everything no matter the cost, cause they know the good is expensive but is a better reward
we also live in a small populated country..the point is, the idea of living in a free society in our world, is that we need to help the common person. Why as a normal sympathetic human would i want someone father child or mother need aid, and then be bankrupt in doing so? or cant afford it and watch their loved on die. Its greed, your politicians, doctors and insurance comapanies are greedy scam artist who wanna keep their high salaries and bonuses. In canada, it doesnt work like that.
The only issue between both systems is the wait time. If you got the cash or can make payments youll get the best treatment possible, but In canada, your not going to get the same quickness. BUT, they're not going to let you die either!....most severe cases of dieases are treated just as quickly. I dont get how americans can comment on a system they have no clue about. Its pretty simple, we pay taxes that pay our health causes and people. Therefore doctors, nurses are paid less.
I am an american who has lived in canada for 2 years, I have been hospitalized for the same thing in both countries. In canada it cost 120 and i am not even a citizen; US it cost my parents about $400 through my wealthy father's health insurance. Wait time was essentially the same, quality essentially the same; but if it weren't for my father I'd be in debt for years in the US's system.
i live in a european country. Sure there are lines and wait times, but there are in the us (been in hospitals there), but the difference is once youve waited and then been treated... you leave the hospital and thats that!!!! No bills, no creditors, etc...
Thank god this man didn't win, no offense to any Americans but our health care system is 1,000,000 times better than the U.S.'s. I would not trade systems with America, HELL NO!!! lol
@az0963818 No offense taken! I was born and raised for a few years in Toronto visit there every year plan to move back there. But I will agree that both McCain and Obama are both terrible presidents neither one of them should of made it to the final election.
We have Medicare in Australia which is run by the government. I can choose my doctor and I don't have to wait long to see them. The only problems I can see are; everybody wants to use it which puts pressure on it and can produce waiting lists plus governments over the years have not kept up the founding for it. However, I am mostly happy with it and would never want the American system unless I owned a private insurance company...
Heck no!!! I underwent open heart surgery four years ago for a congenital defect and following my surgery I was not stuck with a ridiculous bill. If had been living in the U.S. there is no doubt in my mind that I would be in a tremendous amount of debt right now because I would have been denied coverage by a health insurance company on the basis that I had a pre-existing condition. These companies are more akin to "death panels" than what the government intends to implement.
No, I would definitely not switch our Canadian health-care system for the American health care system. Sure, we have long waiting times, but apparently so does the US, but they have to pay for it.
i would say one of the biggest problems with the new health care system would be being a doctor wouldnt be a huge accomplishment anymore they wouldnt be rich and less people would wanna be a doctor aslo it is a step towards socialism but I dont think thats a huge issue
I live in Canada as does my whole family. My cousin got leukemia when she was about five and if they lived in the US the medical bills would have bankrupted my Aunt and Uncle who own a private business and would not get health insurance from an employer. I don't mind waiting a little longer if good people like them get the health care their daughter needs without having to live in a dump. Plus our health care system worked well because she's a very healthy nineteen yearold.
canadian people are pigs and deviant fags, the whole `population is stupid they can't even process a little bit of information, they can't even know how to use a phone card, cause they cant understand the instructions
you think so? so why you stupid people can't even know how to use a phone card, the most funny thing is when we say something to you in a different way you can't even process a little bit of information, and you say what? jajajjaa, because you're stupid brain is so weak that you cant process different things, jajajajjajaja, don't believe me try your people and if it's not true canada may blows!. also your country is full of fags and whores
@obamabinladden i dont get your obession on phonecards but sure?.......so i guess if i dont know how to use a phonecard, americans dont know how to help the common man, maintain money so they dont go into a depression, not make other countries angry, are biggots, are uneducated etc right?.....and arent you the guys going on about gay marriage? and isnt prostitution and brothel legal in some states? i guess that makes your country full of whores and gays too?
jajajaj, fucking fags dont go abroad you want to make gay the world jajajaj, I know in your country is normal cause your pigsty is the new global world, jajajajaja, thank god we live in the past so we wont shit in ourselves, ajjajaja, you say americans don't know to help the common man, if you hate them, why you have sports team in their leagues? and you re not less than us people, I think you are more stupid than them, and of course more deviant,
but how you can complain when you suck queen's tits and your country help the stupid and the shit people like you, if you dont get a job cause you are enough stupid to work ask the country to give you social assistance and be a satisfied useless human being travelling around the world beggin for everything to be cheaper and free, cause in canada, life is the new global wave, prostitution raising disabled people, boozers, jajajajjaajjaja, such a modern life,
@obamabinladden ok you must be misinformed but canada doesnt go by the queen? its more of a decorative type of thing? and i didnt know you knew me on a personal level and know im uneducated or dont have a job?......again your are aware america as moreper capita people on welfare anyway.....your really messed
jajajjajajaa, don't blame you put the face of the stupid queen in your bills instead odf some kind of ancestor, like sitting bull, jajjaj, I dont care anyway most of canada is pure shit
@obamabinladden again stupid comment.......and shows how much of an idiot you are...we have the queen on one bill.....because before canada was a country they were the leaders......on all other bills we have our former prime ministers exactly the same as you have past presidents on your bills?......u must be an idiot.....
you are aware you live in a country thats far worse than canada when it comnes to gun laws, obesity, economy, violence, greed etc.....pretty sure your country is pure shit
UHHH how different is your fucking stupid pigsty, loud people puking on themselves bitches drinking and smoking purple hach, elderly people smoking and dying from heart attacks, crying and beggin for the best for less, and bleeding when they aslept cause they have breath failure, fat people drinking too much coffee and becoming stupid and neurotic, I ve seen it all fag, your country sucks I know every detail that makes your country and your people the biggest shit in the world,
@obamabinladden Well, aren't you the poster child for American education! I will agree, however, that we are overrun by purple hach and loud people puking on bitches and fat people drinking too much coffee. Also, we are constantly being annoyed by retarded neighbours that seem to think they know anything about us at all. P.S. You're a clueless fuckwit.
jajajjajaa, you pig mssed to say that you fuck trasvestis when you're high, jajjajaa, but who cares, your mom is away and you are showing the educatiuon she gave you when you go abroad, fuck you alll pigs canada is shit and will be the biggest shit in the land of shit
lately news canadian fuck trasvestis and they cant even realize they are tastin men jajajajajja, hahahajajajja, ask baijan ashur michael, look for him in facebook hes bald tall and stupid like every canadian, jajajjaa, likes drugs and hes proud of being soberm, cause he consumes cocaine, and red bull, jajajjaa but hes proud of being a man and cant realize between a whore and a trasvesti jajajajajjajajajajjajajajajajajajjajaja
@obamabinladden ill go to sleep with my door unlocked, and walk around town with my head high....you make sure and lock your doors and kep your head on a swivel if there is some psycho outside shooting people
@obamabinladden Fuck Off you foreign shithead. I can smell your rancid carcass right through this tube. I'm pretty sure you eat your own shit for a sidedish . HAHAHA Americans hate your foreign guts too.
@Hattee15 Good point, but you can do something when you are among the highest GNP per capita in the world (ranked 9th by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and 10th by the CIA World Factbook) while Canada is ranked lower (11th by IMF and CWB and 19th by WB). I am aware that universal health care is extremely expensive for a country, a well working system can not be put together with change from under the cushions. In my opinion, the well being of the citizens is worth it.
@irow931 our gnp is the same as yours and in alberta more than double the maritime provinces take us down a bit if we didnt count the gnp in nova scotia newfoundland and pei we are over your gnp per capita
I lived in Canada for just shy of nine years straight. I still spend between 2 to 5 months per year there, every year. The Canadian health-care system has its share of problems, there's no doubt about it. It's far from perfect. But, having experienced both systems first hand, If I had the choice, I'd trade it for the American system in a second.
never, the system is run entirely by the provincial government, some are better than others, in my opinion it needs more funding, and more staff but the system works fine, its just the waiting times due to the fact its more lucrative for doctors to get their nearly free Doctors degrees and make about 8,000$ more plus payouts in the united states. capitalist healthcare gets rich off the sick, now that is truly sick.
fuck no, canada has one of the best health care systems in the world due to its educated medical system, the only problem is how long we have to wait for an operation, but we can wait. gives us more time to get the "dope" outa our systems lol. but america needs alot of change
One point I would like to make is we still use leeches because of their anticoagulant properties, they help blood circulation get re-established in the fingers if you have a finger cut off.
It is true that the waiting lines can get long in hospitals... WHEN THE ROLLING STONES CAME TO MY CITY! The health care system is fine, I waited a few hours to get an X-ray scan for a hairline fracture of my radial bone (not a big deal). I waited 2 minutes when I had an allergic reaction. You come in the emergency room and a nurse assesses your situation within a minute and a half, if it's serious they shuttle you through the system. You don't get a bill at the end, which is nice.
We only have long wait times in Canada because the US system kept sucking all our medical degree grads down there, leaving us without enough doctors of our own. In the US a doctor can earn several times more than what a doctor in Canada can earn. But, now the the US economy has crashed and the republicans seem intent on driving the whole country off a cliff, it won't be long until the situation reverses and we'll have American doctors begging to come up here and practice medicine.
Have you looked at your gas prices lately in Canada?
Man are you guys getting bent over - you THINK care is free, but wow, with all your taxes, long waits, denied drugs - and the fact you have to BUY private insurance (that's NOT FREE Ehh?) -
no, I think I see you paying BIG BUCKS while waiting in line (rationing by wait time). That is terrible and sad as the govt steals your tax dollars!
Greece - "Amputations are cheaper than special diabetic shoes" - WOW!
Overcrowded ERs: Emergency rooms in Canada are so crowded that patients are dying while they wait to be treated. Treatment is free in Canada’s national health-care system, and in many hospitals, packed ambulances idle outside for hours because there is no place to leave patients.. said Dr. Brian Rowe of the Univ of Alberta Hospital. “It’s like a Third World country.”
@choclabs3 I have property in Arizona. The medical system is very expensive .I had to wait 2 1/2 hours for stitches in my hand. I would not wait that long in Canada as a rule and it's free
I believe that the system is much better in Canada and the UK but, because of the recent recession the quality of the care is sometimes horrible for any appointments and the waiting time is much longer than in Canada and some of the equipment is a couple of years old but it is at a bit of an even point right now with the current recover of the recession.
In 2005 I had a work-related accident ~4 am (overnight shift) that stripped the two sides of my middle finger to the bone and ripped out most of my fingernail. I was rushed to emergency and actually made it home before my co-workers got off their shift at 6:30. It cost me nothing. The experience has allowed me to see how fortunate I am as a Canadian, and how important it is for everyday people to protect services that benefit *them*.
Don't believe the hype. MY Canadian healthcare is great.
as a canadian, we have an amazing health care system (slow all be it) but free, but all nations should model their healy care systems after the british. If you need a simple flu pill, it costs the same as a cancer or aids pill. 1 simple fee. In the u.k, they pay if you had to take a cab to the hospital, and pay for the ride home. Mccain is bitching about other systems because he uber rich, and probably an investor. Most politicians are rich and run the country.
930 bucks for one stitch???? man are you guys ever getting bent over in the US. i'm canadian, and proudly i might add. let me tell you what that stitch would have cost you in MY country. ZERO. ZILCH. NOTHING. not one penny. and that's not a good enough argument for McCain?? no wonder that douchebag never got elected..
I am a Proud Canadian and would never give up my Health Card when I go to the United States I get travelers insurance just incase cause I don't want to be Stuck with outragous bills.
as a canadian, i will never give up my health care.
yes we have lines, but thats because rich or poor, you are all treated, who can say that some one elses health, wellbeing and or life is less importaint, a persones health is a RIGHT not a priviladge *sp*
no system is perfect, ours is not but if i have the choice, i would never take the american version of it
Ask a politician in the U.S. if they would scrap the existing health care system, many, probably most, would say yes.
Ask a Canadian politician if they would scrap the existing health care system, all of them would say, health care is a human right and the government will not try to take it away.
We currently have a George W. Bush loving government and they still won't attack health care.
Wouldnt want the US health care system....or lack of. If you have health insurance in the states you're putting you health in the hands on an insurance company who will try to find any reason to tell you that you are not covered.
I'm british. I wouldn't swap to america's system. i may have to wait until people who need attention more than me are seen to but at least i get seen to for free every time.
i broke my rt. ring finger in 3 places, had to go to the hospital, doc asks do i have any plans that night(new yrs eve)i didn't ,he said they could do surgery that night,i have two pins in that finger now,it was all free.My bro. died of cancer 2 yrs back he was ill for about 3 yrs in hospital for collectively 8 months, for a lot of people in the U.S a stay like that, cost of treatment and drugs would bankrupt your family
I would never switch with America. I wouldn't have been able to afford to have my child, or get surgery when I broke my leg four months later. The only thing I needed to pay for was my meds and my crutches, all together maybe $50. I don't want to know what it would be like if I couldn't take my son to the doctor when he is sick because I couldn't afford it, and I'm sorry for those of you who have to pay to get a check up, get surgery, get a cast or have a child. I love my health care system.
I am Canadian. Canadians would fight a war to maintain their universal health care. No politician in this country would ever try to take away our healthcare system, it would be political suicide. Civilized countries take care of their citizens. No one should go without. I have never had to pay for healthcare, ever, and I am forty years old. Access to free healthcare is a basic human right. Insurance companies are running American healthcare. Go capitalism!
Well, healthcare in Canada is NOT all free. firstly things like:medication, casts, crutches are not free and after you wait 3 hours in Emerg. you wait in a room for half an hour and then see the doctor for 5 minutes, I would switch for sure. And everyone who says that the wait is short well you probably live in a small town were not many people are sick.
@444rrrfff the wait may be long but your still covered, think of all the people who would never be able to afford to go if we did switch? Can you imagine having to pay for everything? Imagine you had broken your leg? Instead of a wait and the cost of some crutch rentals or cheap crutches you pay for the doctor, any meds the hospitals administers(which would be free in Canada) any dressings, and all medical imaging. Screw that.
Im canadian, i would never go to america with out travel insurence, my buddy hurt his leg at a basketball tournement down there n it cost his family 12 000 bucks, umm in canada it woulda been free!! there rich so it dun matter to them, prolly cuz we dun have to ay to go to the doctors
I used to live in canada and trust me i do agree with mccain when i used to live there the hospitals were pretty bad and you had to wait long but now that I live in the US and i got insurance the hospitals are way nicer
John McCain you son of a *&^% the UK health care is ok, could be better like all healthcare systems. John McCain crashed 5 airplanes what does he know about healthcare.
Any Canadian that boasts "my health care is free" is not only pathetic but dumb. My employer pays roughly $200 a month for my healthcare and if they didn't pay for it, I would have to pay the health premium myself (so it's not entirely 'free'). Also, the wait times for surgery in Canada are unreal. I might have to wait upwards of 6 weeks for a hip replacement when I could have it done in 1 day in the US or 2 days in Europe. As a Canadian, a mix of public AND private (like Europe) would be best.
@cuno858 I am Canadian and of course it is not free it is paid for though our taxes. Like any insurance, car, house etc it is great if I never have to use it but I know it is there if I do need it. So to all Canadians if you have a health need and I never do good for me and I am glad you got the care you needed. As for Americans choose the systen you want but again as a Canadian I would not trade our system for yours.
@AboveBelowBetween I wouldn't trade Canada's health care system for the US' either, that's not what I said -- reread carefully. I said BOTH systems are crap compared to other rich nations' health care systems. Europe provides us with a good example of what future reform in Canada (and there will be reform, believe you me) could look like.
In all honesty, a mix of public and private care is best. The US and Canada (and I am Canadian by the way) actually rank very low compared to the rest of the wealthy world in terms of health care quality and delivery. Canadians love to bash Americans for being ideologues but Canadians are just as backwards as well (too ideologically opposed to any reform here at home). The best health care systems on Earth are in Scandinavia, Austria, and France. NOT the US and certainly NOT Canada.
Generally speaking, America is a much more individualist society. If you've got health care, great, if your neighbour doesn't, too hell with them. (You can probably tell I'm a Canadian since I threw that 'u' in neighbour.)
Canada's system isn't perfect by any means, but I've never been billed for any time I spent in the hospital. In all honesty, if I knew I'd be charged upwards of $1,000 for a simple stitch, I would band-aid it and suck it up.
Not a fucking chance!
My aunt and uncle live in the states, he can't get health care, smokes like a chimney, had testicle cancer and a bunch of other stuff... and owes a shit ton of money because he had his life saved.

One Word...NO!!!
People who do not understand the Canadian Healthcare system, need not comment on it(McCain is insulting not only Canadians, but to a great extent his own people...and he wants to be president???)). I'm sure if you were to ask most of our U.S. brothers and sisters they would glady take free healthcare.
FooManchuDingo 4 months ago
@FooManchuDingo Healthcare is NOT free. It's covered by taxes. Get that straight. But I'f rather be in a Canadian society, that covers everyone equally when it comes to health care, than a "survival of the fittest" mentality in the States. Just saying... We aren't perfect, but not too bad...

@ralphyization I understand it's covered by taxes, i pay enough of them, however heathcare is free to landed immigrants and people who pay little or no tax as well.

TheReturnOfBigBear 6 months ago
My problem is when healthcare is a business, the focus is profits, nothing more. Why cure someone for $1000 when you can continue treating them for $100/month? There is NO incentive to fix the problems and anyone who's dealt with insurance of any kind knows they're not in it to help you.
If the private healthcare is so great, why are there so many people who hate it or had bad experiences from it? If you're right, every American should be grateful for their system. I am for mine!
Frost770 6 months ago
Free health care fails and heres why, in most canadian hospitals you have to wait like 3 hours to see someone, What I like about the usa is that you can work an easy job from 9-5 on the weekdays, get the weekend off, and have the best health care in the world. The usa's system is clearly better.
RUPERTDOUGLAS90 6 months ago
@RUPERTDOUGLAS90 There is no such thing as "Free Health care".. We pay for it through our taxes. I'm British and Canadian so I guess I have a right to comment on both systems. NO WAY would I trade our tax funded, equal rights system for the American PRIVATE system. I'm a conservative and I LOVE the free market. That being said, Health care should NEVER be run through a free market system. Health care should be measured by need not wealth. The longest I've had to wait in a hospital.. 2hours.
CJRankz 6 months ago
@CJRankz I'm curious what you think about the dual system in the UK compared to the universal system in Canada.
000snow000 5 months ago
@000snow000 From what I've experienced there aren't any fundamental differences between the Brit system and the Canadian system. American politicians will always work to discredit the advantages of both systems but from what I have experienced, they are both amazing healthcare systems.
CJRankz 5 months ago
@RUPERTDOUGLAS90 I'm going to guess you have either never been in a Canadian hospital, or were in for something exceedingly minor as compared to actual emergencies that needed to be addressed immediately.
DarthBismarck 6 months ago
@RUPERTDOUGLAS90 I've never waited that long in a hospital, ever. In fact, most people never need to go to a hospital because we believe in preventative care: we can see a doctor for any problem, any time (for free) and thus not let a problem become serious enough to warrant a stint in hospital.

Id rather wait longer if it saves someones life.
m1up 9 months ago
I love free health care. I can go in and get one stitch absolutely free. Yeah here you would have to wait a few hours to get that stitch but people with a more urgent priority get in first. It isn't like if you came in with a stake through your abdomen would they make you wait 3 hours you would get in instantly. It isn't a big deal to me if my tax is going towards paying for medical bills for people who don't pay tax because I use the same medical care.
b4igetu 9 months ago
I wouldn't give up our Canada's Health care system for the USA system.....NEVER!!!! Yah I have had to wait in an emergency room for a while before, but who hasn't??? The only reason I was waiting is because there were people that were in more urgent need of attention then me, and that's fine...as long as I don't get a charged for it.
maklin25 9 months ago

Best Regards Mate.

we also live in a small populated country..the point is, the idea of living in a free society in our world, is that we need to help the common person. In canada, it doesnt work like that.
paulcyr22 11 months ago
The only issue between both systems is the wait time. If you got the cash or can make payments youll get the best treatment possible, but In canada, your not going to get the same quickness. BUT, they're not going to let you die either!....most severe cases of dieases are treated just as quickly. I dont get how americans can comment on a system they have no clue about. Its pretty simple, we pay taxes that pay our health causes and people. Therefore doctors, nurses are paid less.
paulcyr22 11 months ago
I am an american who has lived in canada for 2 years, I have been hospitalized for the same thing in both countries. In canada it cost 120 and i am not even a citizen; US it cost my parents about $400 through my wealthy father's health insurance. Wait time was essentially the same, quality essentially the same; but if it weren't for my father I'd be in debt for years in the US's system.

Hattee15 10 months ago
@Hattee15 Good point, but you can do something when you are among the highest GNP per capita in the world (ranked 9th by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and 10th by the CIA World Factbook) while Canada is ranked lower (11th by IMF and CWB and 19th by WB). I am aware that universal health care is extremely expensive for a country, a well working system can not be put together with change from under the cushions. In my opinion, the well being of the citizens is worth it.
irow931 10 months ago
@irow931 our gnp is the same as yours and in alberta more than double the maritime provinces take us down a bit if we didnt count the gnp in nova scotia newfoundland and pei we are over your gnp per capita

I lived in Canada for just shy of nine years straight. I still spend between 2 to 5 months per year there, every year. The Canadian health-care system has its share of problems, there's no doubt about it. It's far from perfect. But, having experienced both systems first hand, If I had the choice, I'd trade it for the American system in a second.
BloatedSensations 1 year ago
never, the system is run entirely by the provincial government, some are better than others, in my opinion it needs more funding, and more staff but the system works fine, its just the waiting times due to the fact its more lucrative for doctors to get their nearly free Doctors degrees and make about 8,000$ more plus payouts in the united states. capitalist healthcare gets rich off the sick, now that is truly sick.
akropiss 1 year ago
fuck no, canada has one of the best health care systems in the world due to its educated medical system, the only problem is how long we have to wait for an operation, but we can wait. gives us more time to get the "dope" outa our systems lol. but america needs alot of change

One point I would like to make is we still use leeches because of their anticoagulant properties, they help blood circulation get re-established in the fingers if you have a finger cut off.
Anichels 1 year ago
It is true that the waiting lines can get long in hospitals... WHEN THE ROLLING STONES CAME TO MY CITY! The health care system is fine, I waited a few hours to get an X-ray scan for a hairline fracture of my radial bone (not a big deal). I waited 2 minutes when I had an allergic reaction. You come in the emergency room and a nurse assesses your situation within a minute and a half, if it's serious they shuttle you through the system. You don't get a bill at the end, which is nice.
Anichels 1 year ago

And canadian ERs:
Overcrowded ERs: Emergency rooms in Canada are so crowded that patients are dying while they wait to be treated. Treatment is free in Canada’s national health-care system, and in many hospitals, packed ambulances idle outside for hours because there is no place to leave patients.. said Dr. Brian Rowe of the Univ of Alberta Hospital. “It’s like a Third World country.”

choclabs3 1 year ago
@choclabs3 I have property in Arizona. The medical system is very expensive .I had to wait 2 1/2 hours for stitches in my hand. I would not wait that long in Canada as a rule and it's free
tindallpe 8 months ago

MY Canadian healthcare is great.
darkxsociety 1 year ago
as a canadian, we have an amazing health care system (slow all be it) but free, but all nations should model their healy care systems after the british.

This is so simple:
Ask a politician in the U.S. if they would scrap the existing health care system, many, probably most, would say yes.
Ask a Canadian politician if they would scrap the existing health care system, all of them would say, health care is a human right and the government will not try to take it away.
We currently have a George W. Bush loving government and they still won't attack health care.
smackbunny 1 year ago
Wouldnt want the US health care system....or lack of. If you have health insurance in the states you're putting you health in the hands on an insurance company who will try to find any reason to tell you that you are not covered.

Niffum 1 year ago
I am Canadian. Canadians would fight a war to maintain their universal health care. No politician in this country would ever try to take away our healthcare system, it would be political suicide. Civilized countries take care of their citizens. No one should go without. I have never had to pay for healthcare, ever, and I am forty years old. Access to free healthcare is a basic human right. Insurance companies are running American healthcare. Go capitalism!

rollerfun456123 1 year ago
Well, healthcare in Canada is NOT all free. firstly things like:medication, casts, crutches are not free and after you wait 3 hours in Emerg. you wait in a room for half an hour and then see the doctor for 5 minutes, I would switch for sure. And everyone who says that the wait is short well you probably live in a small town were not many people are sick.
444rrrfff 1 year ago
@444rrrfff the wait may be long but your still covered, think of all the people who would never be able to afford to go if we did switch? Can you imagine having to pay for everything? Imagine you had broken your leg? Instead of a wait and the cost of some crutch rentals or cheap crutches you pay for the doctor, any meds the hospitals administers(which would be free in Canada) any dressings, and all medical imaging. Screw that.

For such uniform support of the Canadian system, your doctors must be uniformly competent and responsible. Kudos.

As a Canadian, a mix of public AND private (like Europe) would be best.
cuno858 1 year ago
@cuno858 I am Canadian and of course it is not free it is paid for though our taxes. Like any insurance, car, house etc it is great if I never have to use it but I know it is there if I do need it. So to all Canadians if you have a health need and I never do good for me and I am glad you got the care you needed. As for Americans choose the systen you want but again as a Canadian I would not trade our system for yours.
AboveBelowBetween 1 year ago
@AboveBelowBetween I wouldn't trade Canada's health care system for the US' either, that's not what I said -- reread carefully. I said BOTH systems are crap compared to other rich nations' health care systems. Europe provides us with a good example of what future reform in Canada (and there will be reform, believe you me) could look like.
cuno858 1 year ago

Canadian society cares about each member.
