Like a rain to the farmer in the middle of a drought or a cup of porridge to a starving person that is what waves are to the surfer living midland. You learn to count your blessings and give thanks. When you’re tossed a crumb and are thankful it becomes a meal and you appreciate so much more. . I shouldn’t waste my time to say that it was three foot over head earlier that morn (08/10/05) and that I had surfed non-stop five hours...
@TheErj2surf ….Why did I explain? The true “KOOKS” just don’t get it!!! Lastly a long over due "Thank you stuckinohio" Have you seen Jon? I have surfed only once with him since.
I honestly did not think that a lake, no matter how "Great" it was, would have swells big enough for surfing. This is cool. I just moved here to Clevealnd from AZ (of course no surfing there). Where are some good spots along lake Erie? I guess I'm a "west-sider."
@cagefighter2832 grow up dude. seriously, surfing is about the soul bro, regardless of how good one is. You're too busy worrying about impressing people and creating a facade of whatever it is you think is cool. Someday you'll understand what I'm saying. Until then, quit hating son.
I just moved from Cleveland to Los Angeles about 6 months ago and learned how to surf. and seeing this makes me want to go back. the CA coast lineup is ridiculously crowded and most people are jerks and territorial. this seems so much more fun because its not expected and this brings surfing back to its roots. unfortunately i cant move back i dont have the choice, im 17
Anyone who lives in the ares knows that lake erie is pretty shallow so when it gets windy.. .big waves. I never saw surfing but we used to take a rubber raft out and ride the waves. I've been on ten foot swells out there. Easily surfable.
this is right on man, i'm from northwest indiana (lake michigan) and moved out west to learn how to surf, now it's time to go back that way cause me and my wife just had our first son and it's nice to know there's something i can take back with me to the midwest and share out there with my friends and family
duude! u guys are fukn rad! thats awesome! Ive lived in Dreary Erie all my life! and ive wanted to surf even longer then that loL! man where were u guys? then peninsula? well im tryin to get a board here come sweeet summa time! soo if u guys ever come up again for a storm! im in! ill show ya' some fun man~ one love!
Hey im very interested in this i used to live in florida and now i moved to ohio by clevaland........ And ive seen some people surfing the lake and i dont know where to go or anything like that and if its dangerous for rip tides so please fill me in I;m only 13 but i rip so id like to ride with you guys or at least introduce me to the lake......... nar vid though
dude ive wanted to surf so bad. i skate with corey like all the time at the park so i kind of know u guys. but yeah i really want to learn how to surf.
We want to thank everyone for checking out the clip. If you, or anyone you know, surf's Erie, please let us know. We are looking for experienced surfer's to film for an updated video segment. Hit us up at sioproductions@hotmail. Thanks
Hi there...I recently moved up to Western New york from Florida and Im dying for some waves but I have no idea where to go...Erie PA is close to me as is Dunkirk NY area....any suggestions
whats the best wind speed/ direction to look for? Im assuming its mostly chop and not groundswell, but I am game for anything at this point. Any surf shops around?
there is a place on the east side, in mentor on the lake. i forget what it's called. there is a building they rent out and a playground and you go down a hill to the lake...its further west than headlands. i can't remember tho cuz i havent been since i've been in college. idk if that helps..
wow. i've lived in sandusky right by the lake practically my whole life. i knew it was possible to surf the lake but i didnt think it would be like this. thats so sweet. i'm about to go get a stick and like a 20mm wetsuit haha.
Little bit in the summer, but a lot more frequently in the fall to the spring. You just have to know what conditions cause waves in your area like the wind speed and direction. And be ready to brave some cold weather... :D
i know edgewater(main swimming area, and the jetties) but i think i have seen a break way out by that light house, and i was wondering how to access that spot?
Hey, i want to surf in lake erie. do you have any suggestions as to what to buy and stuff? i have gone surfing before, but i dont have a actual surfboard. so could you guys offer some good suggestions as too what to buy?
Longboards are the best to learn on in the Lakes, they have great bouyancy to counteract the dense water of the lakes. They also allow you to catch smaller waves more easily. You can shortboard like I do, but it is tougher to get the speed to get up sometimes.
lake erie is in MI i go there all the time you have too pay too get in though but the waves are huge and you can get alot of shells in the water and in the sand
Hey man! Tell me please, in what location(county) I can find these waves? I live in Lorain County, I am crazy for surf. I have been trying to locate this area on the lake erie . I hope to hear from you soon!
All of this was filmed at Presque Isle in Erie, PA. It wraps around, so as long as it's blowing, there's usually a beach thats good to ride. Good for the G-lakes anyway. thanks for watching.
hey I want to start up surfing in port stanley , ON... what boards are you guys riding, short or long? and where did you get yours from? and any other tips?
Use a longboard. The waves in the great lakes are not big enough for short boards, unless you go up to Lake superior during the winter, if you're that ballsy, I got mine in Hawaii, but there are plenty of websites that sell surf boards.
you don't obviously surf alot on lake erie so u i surf a shortbaord at edgewater all the time and i get long rides can even do some nice cutbacks and still maintain enough speed to pump down the line
Hey really good video. I actually surf on the west coast of florida(Gulf of Mexico).I always enjoy seeing great lakes surfing. I was wondering if you could tell me the name of this band you have for the music on this video. I would very much appreciate it, they sound great.THANKS!!!
Man, I know the desperation.. Hats off to these guys. Great soundtrack... I doubt anyone could do anything more on these waves than these guys are doing.
many many many dollars should be given to these guys. being from cleveland...its cold as shit in that water. kudos. and considering how dirty it is. but we all go in anyhow haa.
This is really a great clip. It captures alot of the essence of surfing. I'm lucky enough to surf every day here in HI but it still gets me stoked to see this. I want to surf the great Lakes, I think it would be really fun.
that's funny...i guess this is pretty original i don't think i know a single person who has ever got a surfing bug that bad...i guess it's cause i've never known a surfer...looks like fun though...i don't know if i'd trust it in lake erie though...ya know things mutate in that water right?
im glad to see some proactive work to do away with the misconception that us ohioans know nothing of surfing watching this from korea makes me nod my head yet miss the ole lake a bit more. thanks though
Great video! I just moved from Southern California to Upstate New York for work. I'm really missing those waves, man. I don't think there is anything here I can ride with my boards. Bummer!! Does anyone know of a spot?
