MairKlaus, do you know of any DVD worth buying that is geared towards total beginners? (When I'm at the intermediate stage I will definitely consider your DVDs!)
I do not have a DVD for beginners on purpose, as you should always take a lesson when you start skiing. A good instructor will teach you lots of important things at the beginning and will make sure that you are doing them right, especially everything that has to do with on hill safety. To know more about skiing and how it works in general will certainly help you understand things better and will let you pick it up faster. For this every DVD or book on ski fundamentals should be helpful.
2:33... sick! I've been skiing since Victorian times and despite reading Lito Tejada-Flores' Breakthrough books, DesLauriers brothers' Black Diamond Skiing book, and even Ellen Post Foster's "Skiing and the Art of Carving" I can't get close to those angles.
There is no special flexibility necessary. Having the hip in the right place allows you to get over your outside ski enough to make the skis hold the edge. This and a lot of other fundamentals is explained on the DVD in detail. Have a great winter!
Thank you! As i did some improvements on this one i won't release another DVD this season. The new version has a German Audio track, about 15 minutes of extra sequences, improved sound and comes with 3 reminder cards to help transfer the sofa lesson to the slope. I am right now working on a ski racing DVD and will let you know as soon as it is done.

dude crazy angle of the body from the hips on that carving segment... how are you that flexible in the hips, do you stretch alot?

yea i carve using my hips but i cant keep my body straight up while on as much of an angle as shown here
