  • Err, sorry, I know nothing about alcohols, just came here cause I wanted to see how a Japanese bartender work. Why do you need an ice ball in your drink? :o

  • @Peach0Chaos because it last longer than ice cubes and your last sip will taste just as good as the first.

  • @mylovelikeapples Oh, thanks. :)

  • Alright, God's honest truth to all of you germaphobes from a career restaurant person who has worked in both dives and palaces in the front and the back. Nobody wears gloves and we all have our hands in your stuff. But, we constantly wash our hands. Surgeons are more dangerous than we are and kill more people each year with bad sanitary practices than we do. So get over yourselves or stay home with a bottle of bleach.

  • It is no need to make ice ball like this. There is silicone ice ball cube which can help you to make a rournd ice ball without touching the ice. If you want to know more, send comments to me.

  • @Honeebuket firstly... don't swear - its just childish. Secondly if you learn to spell then maybe your points would be taken more seriously (comming= coming and is=his). Thirdly - if you work in catering you would know that the higher quality your food/restaurant then the more people "touch" your food during preparation but they also have higher standards of hygiene so their hands are cleaner. Fourthly the alcohol is a great sterilising agent. Fifthly see the quote above re this exact point.

  • @anguswinchester i like swearing a lot. get over it. all your other points are valid.

  • That guy probably has incredible capilary density in his left hand from doing this. It probably doesn't even feel that cold to him anymore.

  • Its actually at Little Smith's bar... but you should still be envious!

  • This is at The Crane in Tokyo...it's an amazing Whiskey bar there, I am envious of the person who video taped this!

  • @gman586 Also, ethanol is used as a disinfectant (as it dissolves away plasma membrane of bacteria), and (according to wiki) scotch may contain from 40-95% alcohol?? O_O

  • is there anything that chineese ppl cant make

  • @ab4lifege thats a good point, except this is japanese.

  • Dude, that's dangerous xD

  • Who wants to wait that long for a drink???

  • OF COURSE HE'S JAPANESE!!

  • unlike the molds - these got the unique texture - can be compared to hand crafted accessories vs mas produced in molds.

  • his left hand must get really cold and his right hand must get really tired...

  • Okayy....who goes to a bar and orders an ice ball lol

  • @GRelated420 It's for scotch. You do not want to dilute a quality scotch, and this offers the least amount of surface area for the alcohol to come in contact with the ice; meaning you scotch gets cold, but not watery.

  • Whats the point of carving one of these?

  • dontcha mean snowmanship? :D budoom cheeeeeesh!!!

  • its a showmanship skill that one should be proud of to have. It ain't as easy as you see. However, this japanese bartender (correct me if i go it wrong) is rather slow at carving an ice ball as compared to some of my other japanese bartenders.

  • So, uh, the whole point of the ice ball is that it melts slowly and better controls the temperature of the drink and results in less watering down over time.

    The showmanship is secondary.

  • cool

  • Coming on guys, after seeing what you guys wrote, it upset me a little, i think is a great skill to have as a barman, understanding the service behind it, it is just something simple, like on the rocks, but they even try to give customer the best they could, i agree with davidhobbs83 prechiping is more is faster , but i also as a barman you need showmanship, yes touching the ice is less sanitary, but is ice + he rinsed off in the glass before serving it, so i think is fine.....

  • You guys are just jealous coz u cant even got the skills to do it..perverts like u guys only has the skills to talk trash..pity u guys..stay in school..

  • I'll take an Edwin Charlie "The Virtue" with my ice sphere please!

  • This message is for Troy. After watching this video, I can't help but think how funny it would be to chunk right behind the bar during service. No one would escape my fury. Mayhem and madness, an assiduous onslaught of ice shrapnel.

  • lets be honest... drinking should not be 'too' safe... if you worry that much about your health you shopuld not really be consuming alcohol at all methinks. A mold would be easier but less skilled...

  • yeah but the japanese are so damn sanitary normally and it doesnt bother them and also lets be honest... drinking should not be 'too' safe... if you worry that much about your health you shopuld not really be consuming alcohol at all methinks. A mold would be easier but less skilled...

  • Notice how the ice ball sticks to the towel and has to be rinsed off? All of that hand contact is scarey. Fun to watch but a mold would be more sanitary.

  • Sanitary? really...how do you usually keep bacteria from growing on surfaces. Either them by heating them or cooling them.*rollseyes* It's ice.

  • why don't they do that as part of the setup and then put it back in the freezer? Dont care how perfectly round it is, after fingering it for 5 mins it isn't going to do its job very well.

  • "after fingering it for 5 mins it isn't going to do its job very well"

    hahaha

  • what the heck.
