  • I love the shag at 0:23

  • This is the second HBO special that George Carlin (1937-2008) did.

  • Hey, does anyone else remembr the "Standing Room Only" intro? HBO use to run that before concerts.

  • @HeyMrKong33 I just posted that as part of a break from 12/31/79.

  • HBO On Location began in 1976.

  • I remember first seeing this a few years ago, attached to Carlin's first HBO special, and I think that it's a really inspiring opening; because each time I see it I get more and more eager to work behind the scenes in broadcasting.

  • why dont they throw these in every once in a while? ones now suck

  • This is an awesome open, even by today's standards...

  • Ah the 70s ... What a time! Fun but simple. Sad to say I missed out on it. Now the world feels like its all computerized and complicated and too politically correct. Seems like everyone is telling you what you can't do and who you should be today ... back then you were who you are and did what you wanted as long as it didn't kill someone else. Today you get arrested for smoking within 20 feet of a building.

  • That sure brings back memories. I always loved that HBO On Location intro. Thanks for sharing.

  • I remember seeing this before the 1979 Robin Williams comedy special began and before one of the early Young Comedians' Specials aired back either when HBO were still reairing them or when Comedy Central aired them again. Can't remember which. But I do know I've seen this before and it's always great to look at.

  • Yep, HBO's an oldster - born in 1972, and distributed via satellite since 1975. I believe HBO On Location used this intro at least into 1981. It's on the sixth installment of the Young Comedians specials, live from LA. By the way...based on a freeze the visuals - at least the ones from NYC - appear from about 1974 or 1975.

  • I love the music they use for this. I can't believe that HBO has been around already about 30 years.

  • This opening is still played when HBO runs this George Carlin Special. But they can't play any of the old movie special presentation intros!
