Well it follows the idea from the original Mentos commercials in that you're in a seemingly desperate situation and it appears you're screwed and then all of a sudden you're not, thanks to mentos. Plus, the simplicity and absurdity of the song with the stuff going on has a lot to do with it. It's one of those things that's so stupid (and yes I agree it's stupid) that it's actually funny.
