Compared to the nvidia cards and drivers you find for ubuntu, how well, would you rate the performance for ati cards and drivers for it? Are you able to run games in wine well enough in either opengl or d3d? I'm asking because I'm familiar with ubuntu under nvidia cards, but I'll soon be upgrading to a new HD 6950.

I am a Linux noob and cannot really help. I just did some quick testing on my ATI cards, since I was hearing very bad things in various forums. I found them working properly for my taste, but I don't know what an advanced user could see to it! :S

This video was made to show that ATI can actually WORK in Linux along with Compiz. Well maybe it is not perfect, but what the hell. I guess it will be even better now. ;)

Linux is great! I Use it now for almost 2 years for my self!

I also use microsoft for Gaming but for the internet without worrying to viruses i use Ubuntu!

Only OpenGL games are ported to Linux, so there are only very fiew commercial games being ported over....unfortunately.

ATI has a very bad name as far as Linux is concerned, but as you can see from this video, things aren't that bad!
