Their new album, Imaginaerum, is their best work till date. :) Love them, and also loved Tarja in the band, but time goes on and on.

She was, she is and she will be great singer, and nowadays also songwriter and person who show us that isn't only face of band, she is the reason why they were performing metal. WLB has 4:5 slow songs to metal songs, it's really much but "I feel immortal" is a lot more metal than any of soundtrack songs from Imaginearum (the album is really good but it's not metal anymore). I think that she is coming back for her crown and her next metal album will show us that she is the queen of metal.

To me, Tarja IS unique, too. Not only because of her beautiful voice but also because she uses it in so many diffferent musical ways. I don´t know anyone who does Classic, Rock/Metal, Christmas songs, totally new concept shows like "Beauty and the Beat", Harus, Outlanders and who knows what is still to come...love when she´s "experimental" with her voice! :) NW, hmmm, I think Anette is a nice person, but nevertheless they kind of lost bit of their former magic to me. But that´s personal taste.

Oh, if you're truly a student of classical singing, then you should know that Tarja does not use a full blown "opera" or classical voice in her music? It's modified. She adapted her technique and voice to sing rock. She's not singing Puccini, you know.  So why does she have to be perfect?

I understand to be a true singer of opera, one must study for decades in order to be the best - Tarja has gone another route in music. Which is great, IMO She is talented & has a lovely voice

BTW I "studied" classical singing for over 10 years, voice and instruments, and I consider her singing exceptional.

Jose Cura or Raymo Skiria "studied" classical singing for 30-40 years maybe and they consider her flawless. And they are some of the best opera singers alive.

I met her this year on a festival and I can say she is one of the most kindest and funniest persons I met so far. I had the same impression, met her several times too. It's hard to imagine how she managed to be such a lively and optimistic person, her life was not and is not a bed of roses. At all.

However I said she is more than her image from a musical POV.

Apart from having the great voice, she also has an unique inner musicality. It was obvious when I saw she subtly corrects orchestra's conductors - live, or when I saw how virtuosos like Loureiro or Cura look up towards her.

@niahaa yes, but there's a huge different beteen a ''classicl singer'' and ''classical TRAINED singer'', she has said many times she is not a true classical singing, sure sometimes she misses some techniques live, but no one is a perfect singer, they have their lows too.

Tarja was together with Holopainen the foudner of Nightwish and the celebrity she got it was because of her talent. She made NW famous and not the other way around.

Look at Imaginaerum.Double Platinum in simply two days.That album alone bypassed any other album in complexity, originality, and great musicality overall. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Tarja and she did wonderful with nightwish, but it only took Anette two tries to make the best album ever!

- Imaginaerum did not sell good because it's a great album. Months before it came out it was already sold platinum.

NW having a big fanbase, people preordered the album long time before they listened a single song.

- Tarja is not an opera singer. She is a classically trained singer who sang metal.

She is "heavier" and more "rock" than most rockers I know. If you cannot tell the difference, listen Slaying the dreamer again

And if you need more evidence about the album, look at the interview with tuomas with the same host. The album is explained as their best only because it is.

Tarja may be a hip-hop singer at base, the focus of the discussion was her vocal in Nightwish.

Which sounded "operatic" to people having nothing to do with opera. She sang metal vocals using classical techniques. Among others.

Can't get you culture or musical ear. If you consider the difference between Tarja and Anette is "operatic" versus "pop" (or whatever) cannot help you much.

Damn people, relax, the internet is a free place and I'm allowed to move as and how i like. I'm not on anybody's side. I think both of them NW and Tarja made major mistakes in their behaviour. Nightwish just blew it with that open letter and the book. Tarja was selfish to say "the album after "once" will be my last", so you can't just blame one side. But the illusion that every problem can be solved by talking is even far more childish than the behaviour above.

I think Tarja will always be a lot more mature then Tuomas. She doesn't make it a point to slander anyone, won't say anything even possibly negative in reference, and you can tell she ignores it to make people forget. But people keep bringing it up, they can't get over it.

Quite honestly, Tuomas is the sole reason I don't like the new Nightwish, his music may be beautiful but his attitude certainly isn't. Anette is adorable and I'm interested in her new solo CD, but not the new Nightwish works.
