@chuckles1252 i'm right handed and I used my lefthand on the crossfader, but I can also scratch the other way with the other deck and use my right hand on the crossfader to, it's all about preference, some people like there dominant hand on the crossfader, some like it on the record, give both a try and see what your more comfortable with.
Cool videos. Im looking to start dj-ing soon as well just for fun. I learn alot from watching DJ shiftees vids. I was about to buy the American Audio VMS4 last week but I saw the Traktor Kontrol S4 and I fell in love with it too. So I decided to save up some more. Im gonna get the S4 next pay. Cant wait!
If your just starting to DJ and have a laptop I would say your best option is to use the Traktor Kontrol S4. It has 2 decks built into it that can control 4 decks in Traktor. It also has a 4 channel mixer (with EQ's and filters) and soundcard built into it, and has buttons for browsing, looping, FX etc. It will save you from having to buy 2 Turntables, a mixer, amp, and dj software & hardware since its all of these in one, and would allow you to be able to take your dj setup anywhere.
for anyone than can help. im looking to start dj-ing and these videos are helpful but with equipment I mainly see the 1200's and the ttm 56 or 57 mixer used by the better dj's. would it be reccomended that i just save up and buy the best gear first or are there cheaper alternatives to start with that offer the same or at least comparable performance to the technics and ttm?
@kwidg87 If your just starting to DJ and have a laptop - try the Traktor Kontrol S4 which comes out in November. It has a 4 channel mixer (with EQ's and filters) and soundcard built into it, and has additional buttons for browsing your collection, looping, effects etc. It will save you from having to buy 2 Turntables, a mixer, and dj software & hardware since its all of these in one, and would allow you to be able to take your dj setup anywhere. -- Endo
@DubSpot I have to disagree if you're starting off get a pair of used Technics or Numark TT-200's (Techs are better tho) and cheap beginner mixer, the S4 is a controller, and isn't anything at all like using pure vinyl which is what classic DJing started on, so if you're starting start w/ the pure basic form in it's purest form which is two decks and a mixer, if you find you like scratching then don't even think about the S4, if you want to mix only and like portability then look at the S4.
@FeeLtheHertZ that's sound advice, the problem with technics and a mixer at this stage is price. If you can find a good deal on some used stuff then it might be a good fit but for new equipment it's going to be MUCH more expensive.
@kwidg87 i just keep to bedroom DJing, and i have the most fun in the world with 2 vinyl turntables and a mixer that cost 100 quid in total! and yes, i scratch. Its not the gear - its what you do with it!! Buy a skipless scratch record ("superseal" is really good) so you dont have to worry about good needles. Make your own slipmat out of some slippy plastic so you dont have to worry about crappy torque. Then just have fun - if you one day upgrade then you will be 10x better with expensive gear!

shifteee, actually i have to say that these tips you give might sound basic, but for people like me who dont live in a country where turntablism is widespread, and have to learn all by myself, its a great help :-) condradz on the dmc 2009 by the way... PEACE!
