After 20+ years of driving, I had my first set of Blizzaks WS70 last year. I could do 360 on an icy parking lot 20 mph w/ no problems, droved 60 mph on the left lane by myself during last year Minnesota's worst blizzard icy road while other vehicles were going 35 mph in the middle and right lane. My uncle switch to the 4-season-tires every Spring and Blizzaks early Winter, and the Blizzaks are just like new. Don't drive them during the other seasons, you will ruin the treads much faster :}
@TheQuantoa Haha, me too. I love my Blizzak WS70. I have them on my scion tC. No problems what so ever, it's great having that extra comfort driving in snow or ice. :]
@goalkeepet I drive a BMW 328is, and was concerned about this as well. I moved from CA to CO and switched to these tires before crossing the continental divide (3 ft+ of snow). After all was plowed, I drove through the relentless blizzard, passed 5 accidents, and hit a section of uphill glare ice that subarus and 4x4's with all-season tires were having extreme difficulty with. They are like velcro.. Not bad on the dry, but of course I still prefer summer tire performance on dry pavement.
I have to agree. I have a Maxima with the Blizzaks and it climbs my steep snowy driveway as good as my 4x4 diesel truck with all season tires and stops in half the distance.
Tiro, you should only have these tires on your car in temperatures of 40 degrees F or below. Yes they wear quickly but id rather spend about a grand every few years instead of several thousand or worse be injured in a crash because I was trying to get away with all season tires. All seasons are worthless even on dry once you get below 15°F. The compound gets too stiff.
Costco has a great deal on Blizzaks right now. I just picked up a set yesterday for $468 installed after a $100 coupon.
I just moved to AK and these are the first set of snow tires I've ever bought. These tires vastly exceeded my expectations. They seem like they have 2x as much traction as my all season tires on the snow and ice. It almost makes AWD or 4WD irrelevant.
How long does it take for that 55% of tread to wear off? I read that at that point, you don't have snow tires anymore but rather, all-season ones. What if you don't get snow for another month and you drive them on dry roads; will that take a lot of tread off prematurely?
Anyone know how these do on rwd cars? More specifically s2000?

@ToshiroHoshi No, Blizzaks are winter compound throughout the tread depth.
SparkDischarge 4 months ago
@SparkDischarge
No, they aren't. They are 60% multicell compound, and the rest is just regular rubber compound.
pbmdh 4 months ago
@pbmdh 55% of total tread depth has tube multicell. The bottom 45% is still winter compound, but without the enhanced ice traction.
SparkDischarge 4 months ago
@pbmdh Sorry, but SparkDischarge is 100% correct. It has a 55/45% compound to enhance handling and durability.
