  • yay go Mr.Batti!

    my music teacher :)

  • Great drinking song.

  • Steeleye Span with Peter Sellars on Ukelelee was the best version of thios

  • I wish I can go back to Manitou springs soon. Such a beautiful town.

  • Play that modern banjo music, Min!

  • LOL and thanks! As an alternative, of course, to "Play that funky music, white boy"!

  • Great version guys.

  • Jim & guys, GREAT performance of a great song!! Folk on, my Brothers!!

  • We of the Chilly Winds are delighted to have our friends The Dustmen performing their own "New York Girls" as a video response above - just click on docqwho above for a great version of the song!

  • I like this version!

  • Ah, A great traditional Sea-Shanty!

  • Guys, I always thought that thislike bands playing country music exist only in movies. But watching this video I'm becoming jealous on you. I can just imagine how it looks when you get together at weekends with families, guitars beer on someone's runch, a lot of fun ...

    Good to you. Enjoy guys.

What to say about the song? Just wonderful awesome.

  • Jim

You guys should come up for the Wyoming

State Fiddlers championships in Thermopolis, May 30 and 31.

We got many jams going on, probably in the bandroom of the auditorium, and Sat Night, Plaza In in Hot Springs State Park, plus performances during the day in the School

    Auditorium both Sat/Sun.

Come join the musicality, this is our 3rd year hosting it, and it's permanent

I also invited Gov. Huckabee to come pick with us sometime

I'll bring the guitar and bass, and maybe the dulcimer.

  • Nice...

  • Just awesome!!! nice guitar-, vocal- and banjo sounds, furthermore the bass sounds great!!! 5 stars

  • Awesome!!

  • what a song

I heard it for the very first time in the NY gangs and i admire it

    wonderful

Do any has the version sung in the movie?

  • great job guys love that song

  • haha i heard this song in new york girls by Finbarr Furey but a few days ago I got some kingston trio album they are great!

  • Hey Daragh - I just found out on another site that the Fureys were the ones who did this song in the movie "Gangs of New York." The voices sounded familiar but I couldn't place them. The Fureys do a great job, like the KT! Love your recent Clancy uploads!

  • muito bom, adorei !

  • Jim I tried to write you back, but youtube screwed things up.

Sea Shepherd is very happy you want to help us out. I will contact Northwest College (my alumni) in Powell Wyoming to try and get a joint venue with you and Paul. He's at sea right now trying to find the illegal whalers, so I don't know what his schedule is.

SSCS knows you want to help, and I'll do what I can for here. Keep on picking, I hope we can have us a jam session too. Come to Telluride too. Paul comes there every year. PHIL

  • 'STYIP' IS STOP, I STAND CORRECTED

  • Chilly Winds, would you be willing to do a benefit for Sea Shepherd. We are searching for the illegal Japanese whalers, and we will stop them if we find them. any support you can render would be most helpful.

I know Paul personally and I will do what I can to get you guys aboard our ships.

I MAKE NO BONES ABOUT IT, I SUPPORT ALL SEA SHEPHERD ACTIVITIES TO STYIP ILLEGAL WHALING, PRERIOD WHEREVER IT OCCURS

  • That's a real good version of the song, but there's also a newer version! Do you know the artist? that would be great:-)

  • Do you mean the version sung by Finbar Furey as featured in Gangs of New York? or is there another? I have liked these Sea Shanties since I was a bairn and only have a couple sung to warn young sailors against such practices. The other is "Go to Sea No More" by the Dubliners.

  • Ah, so that's who was doing it in the movie! The lead singer's voice was familiar to me but I couldn't place it. Thanks!

  • AWESOME SEA SHANTY....LOVE IT !

  • Comment removed

  • I love gangs of NY,my and my friends are all Irish and named our gang The Dead Rabbits. seriously we did

  • well done for trying, you need the musty irish voice,

just leave it to the proffesionals

  • the real gang wasn't called Dead Rabits what happened was that one of the irish immigrants said to a news reporter that those are the deed rabeads which means tough guys in irish

  • I have ALWAYS wanted to know that!!!! even Herbert Asbury, in his publication, Gangs of New York, wrote that it was an unpronouncable phrase in Gaelic. Many thanks.

  • well thats how it was pronounced
