  • thats a real hero right there god bless him

  • true hero

  • It never ceases to amaze me how a video like this about true heroism and personal sacrifice can elicit such controversy, snide remarks, and genuine lack of anything resembling human decency, or any kind of humanity for that matter.

As for me, thank you Mr. Nerandzi for the wonderful example you have set, and which so many of us would fail to emulate. RIP, sir.

  • that's the definition of hero, he had to react quickly and decided to sacrifice himself to save his passengers and people on the ground. rest in peace good sir

  • how`s that schettino

  • RIP =)

  • oh my god!

    I am sad

  • RIP Michael Nerandzi. you are loved by many im sure...

  • hindenburg?

  • Good thing it wasnt the Costa Concordia captain or he would have jumped out and let all the passengers go up into the sky and die.

  • This was made by lightship, and not a regular made by good year blimp.

  • Mr pilot sir, even an arrow to the knee would not stop you...

  • @andygaras

    shut the fuck up, fag

  • @MrRambox2000 Your out of order.

  • This is what captains order is all about, and some few live the heroic standard to the very end.

  • @dtrojan88

    Genius response! Bravo!

  • He stayed with his craft to get clear of people. That pilot was a STUD! RIP

  • Amazing Heroism.

  • I wish he jumped off to right along others. R.I.P , Mr. pilot.

  • My dad told me once that godamn goodyear ballon was a spaceship before I could realise it was a baloon <_< troll dad won

  • How distasteful....I had to watch a Coca-Cola commercial before I could view this sad report about a brave pilot.

  • Helium. Doesn't. Burn.

    FYI.

  • @xophertm whatever Lana

  • totally different then the italian captain of the cruis ship Costa Concordia. He was the first one that got out.

  • It should be renamed to GNA "Good Nigger America" because the African American pilot saved white lives. Happy black history month!!!

  • @UberLifeTroll You need to visit your optometrist! The pilot was a WHITE Austrailian!

  • why didnt he jump with the rest of the passengers??

  • @thegrimstock

because he was making sure when the blimp exploded, the passengers wouldnt be in the way of harm. so he took it away from their area and higher into sky.

  • @Nuclear12331 well sounds like suicide to me. how did he think he was going to survive going back into the sky with a burning balloon? id have hovered for a few secs on the ground til the passengers were safe then jumped myself.

  • @thegrimstock Did you hear where they said that the sudden weight loss caused it to go into the sky before he could jump himself?

  • fake cgi

  • @vh90278 Isnt all CGI fake? They weren't trying to hide it, lol.

  • all just hot air really

  • What a fantastic man.

  • UFO's brought me here to pay my respects to this true hero, gives me hope for the human race

  • Those "evil capitalists" are always the first ones to murder everyone with glee, just like that Pilot did!

They're evil and they need to die!

  • NEIN, NEIN, NEIN!

  • Hidenburg!

  • Ponies brought me here to pay respects for this brave, brave man!

  • I dunno. It seems like the Gerrys should stay out of the blimp business.

  • The coward captain who saved his own soul on that cruise ship ....should see this.........a true Captain and hero here

  • @curbshoppin He should have taken notes in captain class like this Hero did..!

  • @hbunnie1120 Agreed

  • HELIUM FILLED BLIMP burst into flames? Kinda defies the law of physics ,, does it not?

  • @ricglos Looking at those vids its the canopy in flames not the actual helium filled body, I would suggest more like a fuel fire, they are powered aircraft affer all, and do carry fuel on board :) Hence why the passengers had a strong smell of fuel, its not the helium burning, but its own fuel.

  • @ricglos Chemistry anyway.

  • Safety Together :/

  • that pilot deserves a memorial

  • R.I.P

TOTAL RESPECT FOR THE PILOT AND A HERO INDEED WHEN HE PUTS OTHER LIVES AHEAD OF HIS OWN!

  • R.I.P - Respect for the Pilot

  • Do they still fly these things? I thought blimps are a thing of the past.

  • @aboodankaboot they have been flying them over liverpool u.k. recently dude ;)

  • @cptskellern Hmmm... Well this video shows that they still are dangerous, even in rare cases.

  • @aboodankaboot yea i agree i personally wouldn't fly in one :/ but yea it was something to do with radio merseyside and was in the skies all week.

  • Brave man, only RESPECT

  • Brave man that Michael Nerandzic may god bless his soul

  • @MontrealMan1970 you are one sick son of a bitch....people like you deserve to get sucker punched in the throat

  • what was he thinking? i would have joined them in jumping off. i guess he was jerkin' to the danger & was too close to climax to abort.

  • @MontrealMan1970 dude wtf

  • @MontrealMan1970 Have some respect you nobhead

  • @MontrealMan1970 Ok he could have done that, with the risk that the blimp would crash near enough to kill them, but the there was a huge possibility that it would crash into a building causing a bigger fire and disaster killing many more than just one. He did the right thing. An honorable death is the best way to go.

  • OH THE INANITY

    (oh the Japanity)

  • they oughta have a cord you can pull and dump all the gas out at once...

  • Wonderful pilot and human being. Rest In Peace.

  • this is sad i know but i couldn't help but LOL @ 030 the guy in the middle doing the superman XD

  • We hope you have a happy birthday in heaven Michael Nerandzic

  • Comment removed

  • So, instead of jumping out of the blimp, saving himself, and running the incredibly slim risk of killing someone else on the ground (honestly, who wouldn't be able to move out of the way of a slow falling blimp.) He decided to steer it into a field, and get burnt to a crisp.... Sounds like a smart chap.

  • @stevenmoor I dunno how to read this as a troll or your just being stupid. Hopefully your just trolling...

  • badyear blimp :(

  • the people jumped?..........

  • @topingtonwilliam1234 yes...........

  • @topingtonwilliam1234 did you listen? the blimp was only a few feet from the ground when they jumped.

  • A brave man, R.i.p

  • The German BND is the renamed 3rd Reich GESTAPO.The BND had organized the delegate Scheuermann of our county to visit or home.To allow him to personally experience how my brother and our parents had been tortured. The BND continued to torture my brother. He was assassinated on July 11th2009.Half a year after the assassination of my brother the CDU delegate Mappus from our district town Pforzheim was made prime minister of the German land of Baden Würtemberg

The CDU is the ruling party in Germany

  • @wwwtotalitaerde You asshole don't even have enough ethics left in your fat body to spare such a kind of video from your slandering spam-comments. You are a disgrace to humanity and I hope the Grim Reaper sets off to visit you as soon as possible.

  • A grand man, Rest in Peace, you've certainly earned it.

  • those blimps are out to get us im tellin you 2012 stay inside

  • the humanity

  • Why do they always have something to do with Germans :p

  • why do they keep making these shite airships

  • @doh1959 Well there are hundreds of airline crashes, why do they keep making them? The number of ships that have crashed since the Hindenburg I can count on one hand. The number of planes fill volumes. As well on airship goes down a few people, a 747 you loss 4 to 6 hundred.

That being said, the pilot was a brave and resourceful man.

  • Hindenburg 2

  • @Volleyballgirl98 Not really Hindenburg was a rigid frame craft with 16 bags inside the frame all filled with hydrogen. While this was a single free envelope filled with helium (non burning) while the fire on the Hindenburg burnt because of its lifting gas, this one burnt because of its fuel, the lifting gas would not have caught on fire at all.

  • For a modern blimp to catch fire and crash, that's odd. I hope they'll find the cause of the fire. I see some irony after finding out this very blimp was called The Spirit of Safety.

  • @IWASWITHLEGION lolololol

  • what a hero.

    R.I.P

  • germans and blimps dont co-exist

  • truly heroic.. wow!

  • Goodyear are tyres.

    Tyres works in land.

What it got to do in the airspace?

  • @Karled2010 are you serious?

  • @Karled2010 Dumb or not serious?

  • Please, this was nothing like the Hindenburg. And the Hindenburg didn't have to happen either, had the US not restricted helium sales to Nazi Berlin. Like sanctioning dictators today, the failure to sell safe gas to Germany cost ordinary people their lives and did nothing to stop Hitler. But we never learn do we?

  • Leave it to Youtube commenters to drag your cynical and irrelevant bullshit into every video in the website...

  • this zeppeling was 1 week on a show on a airfield 100 meters of my house a few days later i here about this crash RIP pilot !

  • I said helium, helium! Not hydrogen!

  • This Aircraft was flying over my house in Frankfurt :(

  • GOOD YEAR :D!

  • he told his passengers to jump ... to where ... assumpton is if they jumped rom that height they would die ....

  • @TheSirSneaky it was said that they were hovering a few feet from the ground when they jumped

  • @morrisz2

yeah i listened to it again ... i paied atetion to the words that time ... so i got it.

  • great man RIP and prayers to his family

  • The Passenger Jump out of the Blimp. Now the Blimp lost many wight and beginns to climb with more than 2 Ft per Second. I dont understand why the Pilot dont jumps out of the Blimp with the Passenger. A Broken Leg is not so Painful.

We can hear the scriming from the Pilot in the blimp on the Ground. This was so a scary. He scream and scream. The Blimp is Climbing. After 3 Min. The screaming is over. The Fire are catching the Hull an the Blimps Helium going out. The Blimp desents very fast and.

  • @tuthiernichtzursache i would have landed in a place with other people.. Didn't you hear how he steered it AWAY from his ground crew therefor saving more lives?

  • Definition #PutDaTeamOnMyBack.

  • A Hero? Im from Germany. The thru Story. The Pilot have been desent to fast

for landing. The Landing Gear brakes and destroy the Gasolinetank. The Gasoline have been contact to the Hot Engin in the Fire are beginns.

It was a Pliot error. Yes he do a got Job and save his Passenger but it was his mistake.

  • @tuthiernichtzursache can you explane your view better?

  • @wendellb36

The Pilot from the Goodyear Blimb desent with more than 3Ft per Second. The Blimp hit the Ground with

a sinkrate of 3,5 FT per Second. This was so heavy taht the Landinggear and the Fueltank are broke.

The Blimp desent to fast an hits the Ground.

The Pilot says: We have been crashd. The Passenger says: I can smell Fuel. The Blimp climb with 0,5 Ft per Second. The Fuel Begins to burn (From hot Engine) The Pilot desent the Blimp an says to Passenger at 1 FT High: Jump out, jump out.

  • This guy is a true hero.

  • If he hovered it so low to the ground that the passengers could jump out, then why didnt he just land? Or jump out himself? I don't quite understand, or is that not possible in a blimp?

  • Good man. God bless him.

  • @pzmaus

It's called a blimp because it IS a blimp. Zeppelins are RIGID airships with internal SPARS to provide structure. Blimps are in essence, gas bags, that have a shape defined by the helium they hold.

  • whys is everyone calling it a ''blimp''? I thought the word was Zeppelin from given from the Germans who inveted them in the first place!

  • The pilot probably caused it. HA

  • @pliosaurus your a frob the pilot did everything he could to save the passengers and it was not his fault because blimps like that suddenly burst into flames....

  • @pliosaurus Learn how to deal with death in a respectful and appropriate manner. What if that was your family member. He is a hero. R.I.P.

  • RIP

  • Hats off to the pilot. Good man. rip

  • sad, this vid shows how many more people think badly over blimps when there are more plane wrecks in proportion.

  • @MrCasper03 Well thats just because theres alot more planes then blimps and alot more people in planes then blimps it's statistics if there were just as much blimps who knows they might be worse might be better depending on the tech at the time eather way I would'nt say eather is worse or better other then blimps are slow and planes arnt blimps are more comfortable while planes arnt.

  • thats real, the fake was a computer example, STOP TROLLING!!!!!!!!!!

  • fake bullshit

  • Why is this compared to the Hindenburg they are completely different types of aircraft its like me comparing a helicopter to a 747.

  • @crazymotionride i agree...

  • should of used helium

  • @holanoobs It did use helium? You'd think after the hindenburg disaster people would still use hydrogen.

  • @zeppship I was researching an airship project at university, turns out that until about 3 years ago hydrogen was banned from all commercial lighter than air craft in the us because of the Hindenburg. However the ban has been lifted allowing the use of hydrogen/inert gas mixtures for lift again. This is actually good news as helium is too expensive and rare to be cost effective and hydrogen has more lifting power. Airships would be an awesome way to travel across the US!

  • @zeppship helium doesnt explode. the hindenburg was filled w/ hydrogen

  • SAVE LIVES......

    LIKE BAUS!

  • Alles von BILD.DE Klauen ja ....

Aber uns als Nazis bezeichnen weill wir eure filme auf Deutsch Übersetzten OMFG!

  • Someone suggested the main envelope exploded. With no allowance, the pressure would increase as the blimp went higher and this would cause the envelope to rupture. However, this doesn't happen because there are equalizer bags inside the envelope which inflate and deflate to maintain an even pressure. The fire simply burned through the envelope (which is rubberized canvas) and allowed the helium to escape.

  • A Goodyear blimp is normally trimmed to about 50 lbs of weight. You fly with a slight nose up attitude to generate lift. Even one person jumping off would have changed the trim to buoyant. Several jumping off would have made it more than 300 lbs buoyant. The pilot can vent helium but not very quickly, not the way a regular balloon can vent hot air when it touches down. These blimps also cannot pivot the engines to point downward to create downward thrust.

  • na only joking that pilot was brave doing that though,

  • It was me i thought it would be fun to shoot it with an air riffle, i didnt exspect it to burst into flames though

  • HERO

  • Dose anywone know why it crashed yet? I'm getting sick/tired of waiting for an answer

  • @zeppship You are sick and tired of having to wait for an answer to why it happed? Think of the pilots poor family. Yes, it would be nice to know why, but to be sick and tired of waiting?

  • @geezah22 I'ts not that i dont care about the pilot or his family. The crash is tragic, i know. But what i want to know most is why on earth it happened.

  • Just amazing!

    Sal

  • What an unselfish man. RIP...

  • @kfordjake75 The word you're looking for is selfless, you stupid prick. I hope you die in a fire like the old guy.

  • @barrab Unselfish (adj) : generous; a person who is not selfish. Example: She is a very unselfish woman. Selfless (adj) : having no concern for self. Info provided by m-w.com (Merriam Webster).

  • the others guys jumped with parachute or without?

  • @muttley077 He hovered a few feet above the ground so they jumped without. Parachutes are not kept on aircraft because they are unnecessary.

  • hella heroic

  • Surely he could have jumped out WITH the passengers :-/

  • @1madaboutguitar he had to keep the blimp close to the ground so the others could get off. if he also had time to escape, he would have.

  • CNN has reported the Pilot WAS in fact DRUNK !!!

32 people now dead on the ground cause this OLD man pilot was allowed to

    fly drunk ....

  • @apatheticempathy which somehow caused a fire...

  • @apatheticempathy whether he had had a drink or not, he still did the right thing once the trouble came. kudos to his thinking of himself last. in that aspect he was a true Captain.

  • @apatheticempathy What?!?! Nobody died, only the pilot died! He brought his passengers to safety first, that's why there aren't any dead! Only himself! Now, about being "drunk", he had 2 coupes of champagne! 2 small glasses! ALSO, the 32 or 36 people who are death, that accident happened in !!1937!!, with the Hindenburg! That accident happened in America, in New Jersey, in 1937! This one happened on the 12th June 2011, in Germany! It was caused by a fuel leak, not of his 2 glasses of champagne!

  • @apatheticempathy Didn't you understand the news, what they said? What about history? Not your strongest side, right!?!? That disaster with the Hindenburg is the most famous blimp accident. Now, the Goodyear blimp had a malfuntion, and that caused a fuel leak, causing the fuel to catch fire on the hot engine parts. And the pilot was not drunk at all! He steered the blimp away from the people on the gound, and some houses, so he saved even more lives. So, have a little of respect. He's dead now.

  • I have seen the blimp just minutes befor it crashed flying over my hometown, one of my employees hous was next to the field were it went down, she has seen it from here living room and heard him crying in the flames as he died in the flames

  • wow true hero rip

  • it's always a day before something

  • For "sensitivity" reasons as YT is "forever" (regarding his kids) get a DIFFERENT VOICE OVER GUY TO READ IT. This guy sounds like a comic book arch-nemesis.

  • why dident he jump the same time as the passengers?

  • ''Safety first'' Irony much?

  • With all the concern over HSE these days what happened to parrachutes? None on board or not enough?

  • With all seriousness, and I apologize to anybody that I may offend. But the guy who started talking at 0:15 sounds like Hagrid.

  • @Gloocoos4 it definately sounds just like hagrid.

  • @Gloocoos4 omg ur right! HP::Y DHIT

  • WHY WHY IS IT allways takes someone to die SO They CAN REcogniZE him as the real hero HE IS ?

  • what a hero

  • hero

  • what a hero

  • Still trying to figure out what went wrong???

my first guess would be because it caught on fire

  • @jackylegs93 Either someone's trying to be funny, or they don't understand the basic physics of ballast vs. lift.
