  • that yellow car nosed into the wall just like the deal that killed dale

  • What Jeff Gordon did to pass for the lead is called REAL RACING.

  • Gordon is the real deal! Guess what? Only two seasons has Jimmie Johnson ever gotten the most points in the season. It's because of the Chase!!!!! Jeff Gordon has done it SIX times!!!!!!!!!! Johnson doesn't hold a candle to Jeff Gordon! 24 BABY!

  • Great race. This is true superspeedway racing.

  • i hate how he put who won in the description. way to ruin the video..

  • This is why jeff is the greatest! Jimmie never makes ballsy passes like this! His driving is based off of luck and a great crew chief

  • I wanted this win terribly for Bill Elliott.

  • Wow Earhardt is a big guy.

  • @bandman232 I never really noticed but yeah, Sr was pretty tall, he's 6'2". Earnhardt could have wined about what happened between him and Jeff but he didn't, he just said it was a part of racing, and I respect him for that. How many drivers today would say the same thing?

  • @ilackedtheheart hm. good question.Joey Logano doesnt really complain much so I guess him.

  • 7:47 Classic Intimidator

  • Dale won 76 races not 80

  • Dale Earnhardt won 76 races not 80

  • look at that cell phone... i forget sometimes how long ago this was

  • Kyle Busch could use the exact same words as Dale did and get called a cry baby... hypocracy!

  • @spudracer13 Dale has 7 championships and 80 wins... he was humble, he was great. He didnt complain after every loss. He didnt complain here, he didnt point fingers... he just stated what happened...

If you look at Kyle wrong he gets his panties in a bunch and wrecks the whole field... hes a douche....and a cry baby... he hasnt earned the respect of the fans yet...

  • @DavidOrtiz36 I would think that Dale in his early years and Kyle in his are qute comparable. Dale wrecked his share of drivers. He had the win at all costs no matter what attitude. The war of words between him and Waltrip was alot worse than what any driver today says.

  • man i remember this like it ws yesterday, i was 5, and i put on my gordan t-shirt then he won happiest ive ever been since saadam huisein was caught

  • i like the way the old grandstands looked at 3:25

  • first race with pepsi on the car iirc... not a bad way to kick off a relationship if u ask me

  • @DLine87, you know good and well that he was totally below te line the whole pass.

  • @DLine87, passing below the line.

  • @talladegajunkie1439 Sorry bud, but passing below the line was legal then.

  • only dale earnhardt at 7:40

  • dale was a class act in his interview. if it were kyle busch, so called the "new earnhardt" by his fans, he'd stomp off into his trailor and not be seen for the rest of the weekend.

  • Jeff Gordon back in the day was pretty aggressive and on the more arrogant side, but he was winning left and right and won 4 championships (traditional points system at that!) so he had more than enough room to act the way he did. Go Gordon!

  • good lord look at that PHONE lmao!!

  • i miss when it was called Winston cup. Im Canadian i never knew Winston was a cigarette company. i hate Nextel , sprint

  • woahh that was a nice "cell phone" he was talking to rick on

  • I love this video, brings me back to when Nascar was good.

  • Gordon should have been black flagged

  • Comment removed

  • @talladegajunk you see the white line around the racetrack? that means you can pass under the WHITE LINE!! today you can see at Daytona and Talledega the track has a YELLOW LINE to tell drivers not to go below the YELLOW line to advance your position! in this race the only reason NASCAR used the yellow line was used for the blend line rule to not go up on the race track in front of other drivers that was the only reason they used it. Sorry bud get your facts right before you say something wrong.

  • @dmhart67, I dont care what color it is, it is not fair. What dont u people get that??

  • @talladegajunkie1439 it dont matter what you think do i need to give you an old rulebook in nascar!! nascar had never thought of making a rule for passin under and color of the line around the racetrack. LOOK!!! the was not a rule did you finish what i posted back to you in my last sentence i reply to you on it was look your facts up before you say something wrong! and my friend its was LEGAL! and LEGAL means you can do it!!

  • @dmhart67, i dont care. It aint fuckin fair.

  • @talladegajunkie1439 well i dont give a damn what you think im tellin you to suck it up!

  • @dmhart67, and im tellin you to fuck off

  • @talladegajunkie1439 NO!!! WHY DONT YOU!!! you have pissed everyone off who had tryed to tell you nice why it wasnt illegal but you wonder calm you damn self down!! This damn race happened in 1997!! Get over it!! You cant change what happened!! so fuck off!!! and quit pissing everyone off!!!

  • @dmhart67, make me

  • this race was on the day i was born

  • Hendrick 1-2-3. Looks like Rick was using all that cash he made by bribing Honda all those years in engineering for his race shop.

  • Jeff Gordon! WOOT! God loves ya, man!

  • go 24 jeff gordon!!!

  • I feel Terry could have past Gordon on the back stretch but choose to stick behind his team mate perhaps waiting for a final lap pass. I mean, if he dives to the inside I'm thinking Craven goes with him and it's Terry winning the 500 but who knows.

  • Hendrick 1-2-3. sounds so common now haha

  • nothing illegal about that pass !

Go 24! I love the cry babies who complain about Jeff !

  • @lenyo123 Ya the don't go under the line and pass rule didn't come in to play until around 2002 or so. In 97 you could go down to the grass and and pass some but you might take out some cars coming back up.

  • they look so much slower than they are today

  • i didnt like jeff gordan in the past

But... now that he calmed down wins here and there he is a lot better, his teamate better wach it (jimmie johnson) because he may follow jeff down the same road

  • I like how he's not a bible thumper anymore.

  • @3intimid8or yea i know god for bid his teammate fallows jeff down the the road of wining races and makeing cry babys cry when they cant beat we dont want a racer to race now do we

  • @chrismcdonald16602 are you serious or sarcastic? I just want to know.

  • @3intimid8or im always serious about nascar

  • damn these cars are so slow...

  • WoW.........U can fuck off n burn in hell for that comment!

  • Oh please you know that's true. Talladega 2003. Nascar used some two-bit excuse that Jr was clearly in the lead before he went below which was bull.

  • @kasey9fan It's the Daytona 500! You got to do what you gotta do. And Elliott gave him room.

  • Great Day for Hendrick Motorsports

  • how old was Jeff Gordon when he won his 1st daytona 500?

  • 24 years old

  • its not been NASCAR since 2001, Dale Earnhardt was NASCAR!

  • lmfao @ that huge cell phone.

  • In my opinion NASCAR has started going down hill since 2003.

  • when the chase format came into play and when Winston withdrew their sponsorship?

  • I think the chase format started in 2005 or 06. And when the Winston withdrew their sponsorship, it became the Nextel Cup in 2004 and it became the Sprint Cup this year.

  • The Chase format started in 2004

  • Why couldn't they leave the yellow line rule out. Now that takes away good finishes. And why just do it at the superspeedways? Before you know it it'll be at all tracks. It's a very stupid rule that needs to be gone.

  • It's a safety rule. It prevents drivers from going half apron, half 33 degree banking and starting a huge wreck

  • i know thats the reason. but honestly that should be common sense. If the person is forced down there and cause a wreck, then the person that caused it should get a 2 lap penalty. Or something that seems reasonable

  • If you look back there might of only ever been 2 wrecks, not even that caused by drivers going down there.

  • this is my favorite Daytona 500

    Jeff Gordon number 1 Fan 24 =D

    Jacob97Ray

  • ok, one, say what your going to say right. And two, what did they ever do to you or your drivers to make you hate them?!

  • soooo, mark and jr are gay? go away faggit.

  • yep you got.

  • you are just jualous of how good hendrick motorsports is

  • well, i wouldn't be saying that coming from someone who can't spell "Jealous".

  • I am jualous of your spelling.

  • on that the best you can come up with

  • man, look at all the reporters swarming around earnhardt. I miss him...

  • "I gotta go talk to the world" what an epic line. He may have slowed down since, but Jeff will always be the man no matter what.

  • This sucked. I was 14 years old, and it seems like this was 2007 to me. I remember all of Hendrick's cars drafting past Awesome Bill to ruin any chance of him ever winning this race again. Now, the sport is a shell of its former self. RIP NASCAR.

  • het bigskyboiler you want some cheese with that wine hendrick motorsports is unstopable right now

  • rofl no there not

  • uummmm...yeah, they are winless to this point

  • uummmm...yeah, that may be true for now but they are on top in the points so not a very good come back daddydawg!!

  • kyle busch is going to whup ass

    especially jrs

  • is that a cell phone or a friggin building? haha

  • Maybe we'll have another Hendrick 1,2,3 this year. Maybe a Hendrick 1,2,3,4! HMS has Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr., and Mark Martin, probably 4 of the best guys at Daytona.

  • yeah but they dont work together :/

  • Well, there's a little something going on between Jeff and Jr., but Jeff and Jimmie work together almost all the time, and Mark's gonna work with Jeff, Jimmie, or Jr. You know he won't be picky.

  • hell yeah my boys hendrick

  • nice!!!

  • dude tahts my name mikey2448 except now its 24 48 88

  • Rick Hendrick was also under house arrest to I think.if so then this was an emtional race for hendrick motorsports

  • thats awesome! this is probably one of the greatest races of nascar history cuz rick was in really bad shape, so it makes this a lot better for them to finish 1,2,3. I red a book about jeff gordon, it sed they called up rick and told him, "well rick, we got the 1,2,3 finish at the 500, what next?" xD

  • is this the race where rick hendrick was suffering from lucimia?

  • yeah

  • Supposedly

  • Uh oh, pass below the yellow line...

Sure makes the racing for the win more exciting, eh?

  • I agree, the evidence is there, but NASCAR watches everything with their eyes closed. This race is a classic, and so was that pass. Today, anyone pulls that and they get black flagged and the race remains two wide with another boring finish.

  • I just remembered what a courteous racer Elliott was in making room once Gordon and Labonte got beside him. Today, drivers would cut down and take out half the field. Awesome Bill was a great racer and a class act.

  • Get out! gimmie the car back! i miss that sense of humor

  • Earnhardt's comments are hilarious. Listen to how he says "ambulance" am-bul-lance. That's what I miss about NASCAR all the good ol' boy rednecks and their "how to speak southern" twang.

  • Comment removed

  • Passing below the yellow line was legal in the 90's. Don't blame Gordon because he is trying to do the best he can to win. Dale Earnhardt raced below the yellow line all the time and would wreck someone to win, yet I don't see anyone complaining about that.

Isn't it interesting how we can easily contradict ourselves when we have such hatred for a driver? lol

  • No rule against passing on the apron until 2001.

  • I agree, If I'd be the one running Nascar, The 1st thing I'd get rid of would be that below the yellow line rule, I say, let 'em run 5 wide.

P.S. That was a great race too.

  • I know, Regan Smith could have won at Talladega

  • Correction: Should've. According to the NASCAR rulebook, Regan's pass was legal 1 of two ways. First off, that yellow line rule, screw it on the last lap. Second, Tony forced Regan below the yellow line. I'm aware that rules are rules, but if rules are rules, Regan Smith won the AMP Energy 500.

  • I agree, Stewart should have been penalized there and not Smith. As for the yellow line rule, it is really dangerous to go up and down a 31-33 degree banking at racing speed.

  • Yeah, but what I'm trying to say is the yellow line rule don't apply on the last lap. I know how dangerous in is in the turns. Have you tried doing it on NASCAR games? You just spin out.

  • @Mikey2448 Really, if you watch the video, there was NO yellow line. The bottom line was a dotted white line just like the top.

  • @Mikey2448 they made it illegal in 1999 i think, but research some. they claimed it caused issues for cars coming out of the pit lane and cars trying to get to the pits. it also causes more wrecks when a car changes from the banking to the apron and back up.

  • Ken Squier's last Daytona 500 as lap-by-lap commentator.

  • Bill Elliot would've been black flagged if this was today, he forced Jeff under the yellow line.

  • Bill Elliott did nothing wrong. Jeff made the pass on him below the line. He's the one that obviously would have been blacked flag with todays rules.

  • Wait. Well, I guess you're right. I thought Jeff was already under Bill, and Bill cut him off, but I guess it's the other way. Still, I loved how Gordon made the gutsy, but pretty clean, moves to get a win. That's why he became my favorite driver, and as he matured, I still followed his skills, 'cause he still won races. Jeff'll always be my favorite.

  • back when the cars howled (beautiful)

back when they raced real cars

back when there was no stupid aero equal rule

back when there was no out out bounds line (nfl?)

back when there was no green white checkered finish

i'm an indy car fan but i used to love H.E.R.

  • I think Craven actually had the fastest car. It woulda been interesting if it hadn't ended under caution.

  • 'Course we don't know if he was gonna go for it himself. We'll never know. He's half to have one heck of a car though. It'd be him vs. Terry vs. Jeff.

  • thanks for posting go jeff

  • awesome race, GO GORDON!! 6-time champ in my book. Damn Nextel. Racin was not nearly as good as it was in these days.

  • @Drummin555 I tottaly agree

  • @Drummin555 Although he had a really tough year this year, with no wins, he'll always remain #1 in my book! Needs multiple wins in 2011 to get back his crown IMO, though.

  • this video of hendrick dominance was almost foretelling the 2007 season for that team.

  • that crash of benson, its amost lie earnhadt's accident

  • i have it recorded

  • I wonder what would have happened if they had a green-white-checkered finish then? (Although they would have likely needed to red flag the race after that crash)

  • thanks for posting i have this dvd

  • be awseome if elliot turned craven in turn 3 with 6 to go causing a big wreck

  • I have "Dale the Movie".

  • It's shame Elliott couldn't hold on, but great job by the Hendrick cars regardless.

  • its a good thing elliot has two of these races. well deserved too.

  • yeah!!! go Gordon!!!

  • Hendrick Motorsports Rules!!

    1,2,3!

  • lol at the chick screaming at 1:13

  • I know, lol

  • is from dale the collection

  • yes, this is from the Dale DVD.

  • This race just defined Hendrick dominance from 95-99. Good video
