Oh, right here when you say at 6:03 "music and video games is not a right..." and neither is sharing software that you yourself had bought? Copyrights make sure people don't claim your work as their own, not to stop people from sharing the things they bought? How blind can you get GUNNS?
BTW, these giant corporations and music makers copyright things so people claim don't claim that work as their own, they don't care if people share the software unless you're a big money-hungry, penny pinchers who doesn't care for the general populace.
I agree with simwarm. Gunns does seem to be very ignorant towards this topic, all his videos on SOPA are just his assumptions and not really news, but I do like his games videos but in politics, he is very ignorant .AND when you said"I don't care what you opinion on it is..." you sounded so intolerant, just to let you know.
Not confused your were arrogant in your last video on SOPA (you know were the dislike button is!!?) also look at the BIG PICTURE just for once SOPA is not just about just pirated games and music...It will destroy the internet as we know it...ie you will NOT be allowed to review a game UNLESS you have permission even if you own the game.
Oh and btw im a corporation heres a figure 1000000000000000 and heres another 30000000000
@LokiV definitely. gunns i don't hate you because i subscribe, but feel that you are ignorant about this issue it is not about law but it is about freedom. for so reason the US government wants more power and gunns doesn't want to believe it. gunns can be a smart man is very and i mean very ignorant on this issue. the poor are stolen from and gunns needs to realize that. plus thanks for the info on the dislike button:)
Gunns you actually got that bang on and it is defo stealing but what I don't get is why are they doing something about it now and they never done anything in the past ? I seriously don't get it
They don't have a right to censor free speech which is a violation of constitutional rights and here in Canada Bill C-11 the will violate our freedoms. 3.92 million copies doesn't equal 3.92 million copies in lost revenue. 80% of people who download wouldn't pay for the game and the other 20% end up buying the game. Piracy of music made the mp3 player feasible by creating demand. How much revenue has IPod and IPhone created? Again technology has changed and the copyright industry has not.
@TheCanadianTutorials the bottom line is, stealing is stealing, it doesn't matter if you would not have bought the game, in the eyes of the law it is still intellectual property theft. And could you please explain to me how this bill will censor free speech, free speech does not entail the right to steal.
@thebigy05 I didn't say anything about it being right pirate content. We need fair copyright law not laws that threaten the internet. The legislation would give the power to shut down websites suspected of piracy. Links to pirated material are enough justification to shut down a website, even if the link is added by a visitor. This could lead to censoring free speech shutting down websites by claiming piracy. I’m not the only one concerned about potential abuse.
@TheCanadianTutorials I understand what you are saying and your concerns, thing is, do you really think the government is going to abuse this power, just because is has the power to do something does not mean it will do it and abuse it. People are talking about how sites like google will be shut down, the government isnot stupid enough to shoot itself in the foot by shutting down websites they make billions in taxes from. however i do agree that we need fair copyright laws
@thebigy05 I wish I lived in the same world as you where there is no corruption, fraud and abuse of power. They won't shut Google because its has an army of lawyers and is worth hundreds of billions today. If this law exist 15 years ago they might of been shut then. The threat is to new start ups, independent media and competition. The question is how far do we go to protect copyright? We need a public discussion on what fair copyright law looks like. Not laws made in by the industry.
:)) Love it how you all think I am australian :)) that was just an example people... and by the way, in my country the minimum wage is somewhere around 1.25$/hour (175$/month) and in USA ... surprise surprise 7$ (per hour) while Skyrim is still 85$ and in USA 47$ (Amazon.com) so that in my country you can buy the game after 68 h of work and in USA after only 7 hours ... True Story
theft? if i lick my friend's lollipop, that he bought, wich has a value, that he wants to share, i actually steal indirectly from the store? Goddamnit, i'm a criminal! plz lock me up!! before i steal again!
@THEGUNNSHOP Although it actually is legal to download music off of the net and frost wire etc in Canada it has been stated but it is strictly against the law in the US
In general, we think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem. For example, if a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the U.S. release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable
Maybe you should watch this... Everything you just stated is wrong... The facts are in the following video I am about to mention. This proves everything you just said to be false.
Youtube won't let me type in the address for you..
Stay on Youtube and simply type in "Be a HERO and Help STOP SOPA Now!!"

what he is saying is kind of bullshit sure a bill that stops piracy but sopa isnt it takes your freedom you wont be able to say shit in the internet without risking 5 years jail cause you accidently had a copyright in your video
Also, if you do some research websites such as Download.com and Softpedia are owned by music and entertainment company that, the way I see it defined the word PIRACY! they allowed people to get Limewire etc off their website with one click and steal their own songs.. This was many years ago and now they are suing people who did so... what the fuck!
I agree with your 100% that we caused it. SOPA should be more permissive what if once SOPA kicks in everyone gets sued for downloading shit 10 years ago or something? If SOPA is kicked in, it should be more permissive. SOPA says is that if you make it difficult for USA to confirm that you are pirating, they can arrest you! WTF Invade privacy?COPS in Canada and US just ring their siren and steal weed from kids and misuse their power.. imagine what they would do once SOPA kicks in!!
In another post I admit to us, the consumer (or non consumer) as a definate factor or culperit in the creation of Sopa. That said, I just watched a video i think is worth sharing. It basically shows how some of the major supporters of SOPA had helped to cause the piracy they are blaming us for. At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist please watch:
You are right.. It is the because of our (digital societies) use and stealing that caused this. But this is not the correct response or way to handle the issue. Accepting blame is a big step, but we cannot allow our country to go on a witch hunt for copyright offenders. Its bad enough we are already being treated like terrorists in our own country.
The majority of the people who are against SOPA are the people who are against the effects it will have. Like youtube, and a shit ton of other big name sites going down.
THere are ways to prevent these. When your pirating. You don't get the full quality actions of the product. The company has ways to block it. It's like trying out a game before buying it.
@562PARTYMAN finally someone who knows what the hell they are talking about. they will use these acts to stop the flow of freedom and spiritual info, they want to control us. they want RFID chips in us as well. i'm tired of greedy ass corporations.
I did not make SOPA, I have never pirated anything or downloaded pirated software. SOPA is over kill, they should go directly to the root of the problem. I still think the bill is wrong.
btw I also bought Crysis 2 and it sucked. I wish I would've downloaded it first and then threw it away. That's called letting bad programmers fail. Good games and services will always be rewarded, its not about responsibility its about censorship and now you are saying that its our fault for this even happening. Well I know who i will be censoring on my playlists.
@kravman84 You just don't get it? No matter how crappy the product is, it's not yours. Bottom line is, you cannot ''test'' the game before purchase by downloading it illegally. If you do that, it's stealing.
@TheGUNNShop I totally understand your view on piracy as it is the same as mine however; shouldn't SOPA and other retailers cut down second hand sales as they too lose money for the developers of the content. For example, the gaming industry have been complaining about the second hand market and how it loses them money, won't this apply for CDs, DVDs, TVs, Phones and other technological items?
I think they should do something on the 2nd hand market aswell aas its pretty much similar to Piracy.
"The censorship regulations written into these bills won’t shut down pirate sites. These sites will just change their addresses and continue their criminal activities, while law-abiding companies will suffer high penalties for breaches they can’t possibly control."
Why don't they develop some kind of software that will prevent distribution within these music/video/game files? It would be much better to help artists and companies learn how to protect their own product instead of censoring the internet?
Your exactly right. Although I think they are going too far wiht SOPA, They need to do this. I NEVER illegaly downloaded software, music ect... from the internet. I ALWAYS buy my music from BestBuy and/or iTunes. The bands i listen to (3 Doors Down, Theory Of A Deadman etc...) desearve the money they make for taking the time to learn how to play an intrument and writing their songs.
@TheGUNNShop it is interesting how the ESA can support a bill which is some ways will have a negative impact for their members. As some of your recent videos accurately mention in many of these video games they have images and other elements which are used on the premise of creative license which is one of the main elements this bill has provisions for. There has been evidence shown (ebooks is a great example) that when prices are lowered they sell more.
@ramonpacman You aren't paying that software company your stealing from... you're paying your provider to have internet. The fact that you pay for internet service doesn't give you the right to steal from people who are just trying to make a product for you to enjoy and for them to make a living off of.
@brghost23 I dontt understand why the hell are yall bitching about something not that serious, if i want to download a game thern i will and YOU cant do anything about it. If you dont like it than mind your own business. And im basically paying for it. You need to think out it the other than yours alll the time. ust sticking yo one thing ant gonna get u no where
@ramonpacman It has nothing to do with looking at things differently, your logic is flawed, just the same as your spelling and grammar.
Think about this:
You own a store that sells video games. Every video game. You charge $2 to get in, and then people can shop. Someone pays their fee to get in, then just walks in and takes all of your games without paying. According to your logic, that's okay, right?
We will continue to look for ways to ensure that foreign websites cannot sell and distribute illegal content to U.S. consumers
if an ISP decided not to redirect, it must employ other censoring methods as outlined in the bill such as IP address filtering to prevent American citizens from visiting sites the attorney general maintains are dedicated to infringing activities.
IT ONLY US CITIZENS LIVING IN UNTIED STATES NOT CANADA
he is right when peploe steel the price of stuff gose up stop steeling and it be over ex; some one steels a shirt and befor he stole the shirt it cost 3.00 after he stole it it cost5.00 stop steeling
Everyone can say sopa is bad but if you even downloaded 1 movie you contributed, so even if you don't support it don't complain and if anyone unsubscribed because of this video because you don't agree with him well that's just stupid. Sopa is needed but only to a certain point
Gunns you're a very intelligent yet mature person for saying this. Is just the fact that the government is going to take control in everything we do on the Internet that scares me.
...and all i'm saying is that piracy is a difficult topic. It's not black and white how some ppl tend to show it. It's not about theft/stealing...it's very complex social, law, economical and even philosophical phenomenon which in many countries is not defined enough in codex of law.
Living in the colder parts of Europe, makes the distribution of TV series a bit crappy. This was what I downloaded in the past. Didnt really take any music, movies and games, made my line there. But a supposed solution to this could be a international site where you can purchase easily TV series and other entertainment. Id be happy to pay for that privilege and not wait for 5 years for say a new season of Dexter.....
@OGxKushington The funny thing is, nothing will change. I'm sick of listening to ignorant morons say "THE INTERNET WILL ALL GO DOWN AND BLOW UP" - No, not even close. The only ones effected will be the people in direct relation to downloading illegally and breaking copyright and in fact, even THAT will not change because the leading pirating site, (tpb), is ALREADY "banned" and even to this day being attempted to shutdown. (And if you knew why they aren't, you'll know they will never be.)
i download music because most of the cd's i buy are not even worth wiping my ass with and if you guys really think sopa will stop stealing your a fool there is countless ways around it all it affects on average is the very people who are not stealing!!!! promoting anything that takes our rights away is like taking one more step to the slaughter house one day you sheep will jump the fence and get a clear look at what is really going on
when companies pay their workers more money and gas prices and other prices go down then i might start to pay for music but until then i dont plan on it.
Firespy r u serious?piracy brings small bands to knowledge? I assure u my friend , even small bands would like to be paid/compensated for there music dog. And by the way, sure cds don't bring artist the bulk of their money, these people (mostly at least) sign record contracts that pay them money up front, and the cd purchases r a way to pay the company back that's manufacturing their discs, paying for their studio recording sessions, arranging the live "gigs", all that dude.
This is so that the US can silence bloggers, sites like Wikileaks and other stuff they don´t like legally claiming that they might post cporyrighted material in te future.
It will also be a tool to take over Facebook that the US feels is getting to powerul by activly censor clips they deem unfit or tells the trusth about things the public are not supposed to be aware of.
This coincides with Obama signing a bill that gives the military right to arrest and hold US citizens indefinately..
Preach on gunns, preach on! Almost EVERY person I know thinks I'm stupid because I buy my music from stores.... Looks like all the stealing assholes getting their just desserts to me
Let's say you pay or the game/movie/software on another platform and torrent it on a different platform. Even though you do not have rights to the game, is this fully considered stealing? I'm supporting the company.
Also everybody please support your indie game company's and don't torrent. With SOPA passed, this may be the near end of smaller companies.
Well I think that if you buy some bands CD, it will like give minor amount money to the band, the get most money of the stuff you buy from gigs and by going to gigs...
Piracy brings smaller bands to knowledge to people.
And do we really want Utopia that has no theft or something by greater security, brings Mirrors Edge story to my mind ;D
i'd agree if i had a refund option for games/films/albums that are advertised a lot but then suck balls. I won't spend money to see if i like something, i'll download it, and if it's good i buy it, if it sucks it dissapears for ever from my pc
"The unauthorized taking and removal of the personal property of another by an individual who intends to permanently deprive the owner of it; a crime against the right of possession"
Using term "theft" or "stealing" when talking about online piracy is wrong. U're not depriving someone of an item. Piracy is copying. In most law dictionaries copying is not equivalent of stealing. Not saying piracy is good but don't call it stealing.
@Hozugi but taking a individuals software wether physically or intelectual it is illegal if you do not get it from a regestered distributer or the company themselves is considered theft wether you call it copying or not it is stealing it is copyrighted as that companies property if they choose to sell it and you get it for free it is illegal
Law is not about what is considered to be something and what is not. Law is not bunch of rednecks deciding whether someone should be thrown bunch of stones at or not. Law is what your government sets. If it says in English Law Dictonary that theft is what I have quoted bellow then it is what I have quoted. I haven't come up with it. Oh wait! Have I conducted theft now?? I have COPIED something from dictionary and I have pasted it here!! Pure piracy and theft.
@CalamityMagnum Law is not 100% concrete. Law is up for a certain amount of interpretation bc of advances and changes in the culture. A good example is wether childern should b charged with child pron when the sext.
The point is there is no way to amend every law for every case there will be some gray area but that doesnt make your gray legal. Im not even siding with the companies im siding on the principle that it is wrong
Alot of people download to test a game. Atleast i do when a game doesnt have a demo i will download test and buy it if it is worth it. Don't care what people say and if i have the right i don't want to waste money on a bad game.
Agreed. If you don't like it then don't buy it. You don't have a right to entertainment that someone works hard to produce and make a living off it. If you feel they make too much money then don't buy it. If you think kids in Mexico who can't afford it then buy if or them and ship it to them.
the shit is not accessible. I'm sorry to say, but even an awesome thing like netflix isn't available to EVERYONE! You know what I mean?
If companies don't want to let me access their stuff for a price, then why should I hastle myself to please them. An itunes song is like 12 fucking mb! That stuff holds up more space on your ipod then you can imagine. If you found a free version for no money and half the size, why not? I pay for all my songs and it's a bitch sometimes.
You know video games aren't just meant for adults. Kids all over the world love video games and I wanna ask you this. How would you tell a poor kid who was born to a poor family he can't have a video game because he is poor and can't afford it. Just look upon yours kids and ask your self what would it be if they lived in mexico. Its not that easy to say if you can't afford it than that's your problem. Think beyond your borders. I wish the mexican economy would be better but its not.
@Socc3rLatin092 The child would still need to buy the console. Dropping money on individual games is really not the point. The internet people pay for is insane compared to what they steal online. Yes there are quite a few people who take the games online because they need them or have no way of getting them, but for the most part; many of these people can afford to buy these games/music. It's sad, but unfortunately the law. But yeah, I get your point and agree.
Original copies of a game in mexico come to cost around 700 pesos to 900 pesos. That would be 70 to 90 dollars now that's not that bad in american dollars, but the average salary here in mexico can't give you the choice of both games and your daily food.
Ok gunns I get your point in fact I support it, but I just wanna add something. You see your are seeing this issue from canada, and granted this issue isn't a big deal. I'm currently living in mexico which can be the number one piracy country. I can see why some people choose piracy and I'm going to remind you, you once talked about australians paying way too much for video games well it aint that different here in mexico in fact its worst.
Digital pirating can NOT be compared to physical theft. Theft results in one loss and one gain. Pirating does not have a loss to it's owner, only a gain to the one pirating. I mean really, does a copy disappear in a store when someone pirate it? NO
Pirating may feel like a total loss for companies. This is incorrect. Pirating is like FREE ADVERTISEMENT for companies. A lot of people and me included test products by pirating then BUY the product if we like it. Pirating is really not all that bad.
Oh, right here when you say at 6:03 "music and video games is not a right..." and neither is sharing software that you yourself had bought? Copyrights make sure people don't claim your work as their own, not to stop people from sharing the things they bought? How blind can you get GUNNS?

SOPA wouldn't stop piracy:
Quote from Google:
"The censorship regulations written into these bills won’t shut down pirate sites. These sites will just change their addresses and continue their criminal activities, while law-abiding companies will suffer high penalties for breaches they can’t possibly control."

Why don't they develop some kind of software that will prevent distribution within these music/video/game files? It would be much better to help artists and companies learn how to protect their own product instead of censoring the internet?
Keyes131 1 month ago

Definition of "theft" taken from the dictonary:
"The unauthorized taking and removal of the personal property of another by an individual who intends to permanently deprive the owner of it; a crime against the right of possession"
Using term "theft" or "stealing" when talking about online piracy is wrong. U're not depriving someone of an item. Piracy is copying. In most law dictionaries copying is not equivalent of stealing. Not saying piracy is good but don't call it stealing.
Hozugi 1 month ago
@Hozugi but taking a individuals software wether physically or intelectual it is illegal if you do not get it from a regestered distributer or the company themselves is considered theft wether you call it copying or not it is stealing it is copyrighted as that companies property if they choose to sell it and you get it for free it is illegal

@CalamityMagnum
Hozugi 1 month ago
@CalamityMagnum Law is not 100% concrete. Law is up for a certain amount of interpretation bc of advances and changes in the culture. A good example is wether childern should b charged with child pron when the sext.
The point is there is no way to amend every law for every case there will be some gray area but that doesnt make your gray legal. Im not even siding with the companies im siding on the principle that it is wrong

the shit is not accessible.

Socc3rLatin092 1 month ago
@Socc3rLatin092 The child would still need to buy the console. Dropping money on individual games is really not the point. The internet people pay for is insane compared to what they steal online. Yes there are quite a few people who take the games online because they need them or have no way of getting them, but for the most part; many of these people can afford to buy these games/music. It's sad, but unfortunately the law. But yeah, I get your point and agree.
moodydoyle 1 month ago
Original copies of a game in mexico come to cost around 700 pesos to 900 pesos. That would be 70 to 90 dollars now that's not that bad in american dollars, but the average salary here in mexico can't give you the choice of both games and your daily food.
Socc3rLatin092 1 month ago
Ok gunns I get your point in fact I support it, but I just wanna add something. You see your are seeing this issue from canada, and granted this issue isn't a big deal.
