  • Gen X is early punk period, anyone who would say otherwise is a kid or a fool

  • who would think Generation X isnt punk? thats just ludacriss.

  • i knew that this band was ... but i got on to this scene late.

    (so) thank you for post.

it's good, isn't it. i think i like it more than rebel yell n stuff.

  • erm Im young and thats why im not too experiesnced and a bit shy

  • Billy Idol looks like a Ken doll in most pics, no offense

  • What a hack

  • GOD Is all about Ready Steady GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he wore blue eyeliner the glam cunt..lol

  • at that time one of the best performers live and a a good guy

  • Sorry QR..First single was Your Generation..then Wild Youth then RSG...still lovin the vids!

  • totally awesome

  • Billy Idol looks like a cross between Sid Vicious and David Bowie

  • i really dont like punk that much, but when its classic punk and its about high school experiences that are easy to relate to, than its all good!!

  • Why does it seem like male musicians, especially the Brits but not just them, were hotter looking, cuter, and sexier than anybody now?! It just makes me want to hang my head and cry! I HATE my age and my so-called heyday (nay-day)!

  • @jrmetmoi We just can't help it darlin', God made English people handsome..

  • I can't get over how at 1:55, 1:57 and at 2:00 how those pics of Gen X look like any of the young rocker (indie) bands today! The more things change the more they stay the same. The whole of Gen X was cute it seems, but Billy was the sexy hot one. The pic at 2:00 I especially find as if time stood still in terms of image, that's so weird!... but cute to look at!

  • @jrmetmoi Except there is a fundamental difference .... the guys now look like severely boring clones

  • Billy was cuter in the face, and hotter during his Gen X days than he was as a solo artist for some reason!

  • Queen R. :-) The Real Deal!

  • This was the first Punk album I ever bought and started a life long love affir with that genre of music. I still listen to and love it, to this day. A whopping album!

  • Does anybody know the 90's band who covered this?

  • @princesskellysue More importantly, who wants to know ?

  • @sclapione kelly sue wants to know. Princess, to you. Why ya gotta be shitty. It was a legitimate question. I'm no fool and if you took the time to check my channel, you'd know I know my shit.

  • Bestest song for the days theme. Ready, steady, go!

  • most of punk song is boring..no creativity, simple music as use 3 chord..A..B# C..D..hah..ha

  • sing like no soul..rubbisshhhhh..Long live yngwie mlmsteen

  • @getahkepingan weird Alstein?

  • @getahkepingan You're seriously accusing other artists of having no soul in the same sentence as you root Yngwie Malmsteen?

Even Yngwie's fans think he has no soul. NOBODY thinks Yngwie has soul. He has incredible skill, incredibly fast fingers, and absolutely no heart, soul or musicianship. He himself will be the first to admit that, haha.

  • @GilbertSmith prove to me bro...show me the prove

  • @getahkepingan Prove to you that Yngwie has no soul? You can't prove a negative. How about this: You prove to ME that he DOES have soul. That's something you can prove. Watch this: watch?v=Zl81Mq4llZg And tell me what feeling he expresses, what emotion he expresses, with all that pointless shredding.

    Great guitarist, worthless musician.

  • @GilbertSmith What I mean is Punk song is rubisshhh.

  • @getahkepingan Oh it's such rubisshhh. We all must have rubisshhh brains for liking it and rubisshhh lives for taking it to our hearts

  • @getahkepingan says some who

hkepingan liked a video (1 week ago)

    TaeYang | I Need a Girl (ft...

    TaeYang | I Need a Girl (ft. G-Dragon) [HD:MV]

  • All you people arguing over whether this is punk or not, just shut up and enjoy a great, great song

  • one of gen x's better songs. sorta pop-punk but that's understandable since its a tribute to a pop tv show and rock and roll. the energy is very punky, though...

  • i am genx generation....my acquitance from van invented the term...and i saw billy idol in the girlz washroom of this seedy cool club when he was performing in what was then not-yet borring city on the west coast, now full of chinks

  • Billy rules, one of the early stars.

  • Wow, this is totally where green day got their early sound. Sounds like early green day with Pete Shelley singing.. lmfao.

  • Think they totally got their sound from Stiff Little Fingers and really should send them a cheque. They could give it to U2 next time they hangout together.

  • classic punk rock right here hell yeah!!!

  • too many billy idol pics...

    GenX wasn't just billy idol

  • @Duw he's very easy on the eyes though ;)

  • This song in blaring in the kitchen every night! Pumping out 250+ covers a night ain't so bad, as long as we got good music. Don't bring no Billy Joel in my kitchen!!! COOKS RULE!!!

    503Chefs especially!

  • chrysalis records! fuck im old!lol

  • Their best song and one of the highlights of it's time.

  • Why this one didn't received 5 stars? Put your fucking fingers on the 5 stars assholes!

  • @PunkLobo i wish, now its thumbs up down :/

  • @PunkLobo theres no 5 stars... only likes and dislikes

  • i've seen gen-x. i've seen idol. both awsome. 20 years. just as good from first to last. fucking awsome

  • Billy Idol is the king from 77 epic pioneer punkrock in Generation X to new wave post-punk Billy Idol...love it all fucking magnificant

  • yer hes great and all but lets not go overboard..

  • Blah I can say what I want

  • Sounds every bit as good today as it did when it first came out. Great drum mix and production.

Always loved the Ronson-esque guitar of Derwood.

  • greast song . great music lved thsio bad. they were better than billy idols singles. great song and great video

Long live Joy division and punk rock

  • underrated guitarist!

  • Boss tune

  • craziest electric guiar ever....

    from any band......

  • hmmm, precursor to pop-punk?

  • shut the fuck up ,with your undertoning shit

  • This song and the entire Gen. X band were on Fire at that time in the latter half of the '70's.

I've been a fan of theirs during the same time/era that I was a Kiss fan and went and heard/saw Kiss in S.F. on their Lovegun tour at the Cow Palace. So many of us in full kiss make-up packed in so tightly that you would be lifted off the ground by the moving hoards of fellow fanatics- awesome! Those were original creations/artists that few bands can hold a candle to these days...besides Rammstein!

  • I liked some of billy's earlier work, white weddig comes to mind, dancing with myself when I was a teen in the 80's.But, around 85' or 84' his ego & snarly became too commercial so no more rebel yells, great song but things seemed to go too commercial & lame...& where is he now or does anyone care? Great singer though with the right material & band mates...we need more of re-invented idol & less brittany spears & fake weight gain jessica s. How cheesy huh..all for attention & she got it

  • He went on tour last year. I hope he does at LEAST one more. Nothing more I would want to see than Idol in concert.

  • yeah but Danacing with Myself was originally a Generation X song in the 70s

  • awesome!!!! punk rock is awesome!!!!!

  • no, its AWESOME! you forgot to shout it.

  • lol ok ill try it again... ITS AWESOME!!!!!

  • @Nivisters123

    PUNK IS DEAD...

  • @roboroschi I don't know where you live but, actually, it's quite alive and well. Just because it's not on the radio doesn't mean it's dead.

  • @jamesallbee

    I live in Italy,

    and punk is true dead.

By the way, i appreciate very much

    Anarchy - Sex Pistols.

  • @roboroschi

    punk is definitely NOT dead

maybe the punk scene in italy isnt that big like it is in some other countries of the world, but it still excists

ever heard of nowhiterag or the twinkles?? two great punkrock bands from italy, and i'm sure the're many more..

  • @tiafesH

No, sincerely i don't know these bands.

But, i thin you'll agree with me

if i say that punk today

    is not punk yesterday...

  • @roboroschi

yeah, in this point, i agree 100%

  • @tiafesH Punk was hijacked by the music business then it became just another fad :)

  • @Vinseneb

    if you say that...

  • @BamBiiDisorder Yeah I do say that. I saw it with my own eyes. I worked with punk bands right through the nineteen 80's.

  • @Vinseneb Thats how Pop-punk bands were created. Makes me cry.

  • @rockstarsenty Yeah me too kid. The real punk started in the US anyway,I'd say in and around 1969 with the Stooges and a whole load of garage bands who were jamming around that time. We imported it ran with it and created a whole new scene, which is what always happens with British and American music,it go's in cycles. Don't cry too much though :) You still have a great catalogue of music to listen to. Take Care!

  • @Vinseneb I know. It just pains me, though, to know that almost my whole generation believes punk is bands like Fallout Boy.

  • @rockstarsenty Ha ha! Fallout Boy! are definitely not punk :) especially when you put them along side The Clash,Pistols,GBH,Exploited,Uk Subs and The Damned. I could go on but I won't make it too hard for the rookies eh! :)

  • @Vinseneb Dude those are all mainstrem punk bands as well, just in the 70's 80's instead of now. The problem with punk is noone wants to label themselves as it, until they are not in the mainstrem anymore and normally punk just means you cant make it mainstrem. I mean who doesnt like mainstrem music, if you dont your just stupid, getting mad because that many people love and support a band! That doesnt make you suck, it makes you awesome! look at nirvana, all of you supported that mainstremband

  • @liqwidmud Those bands weren't always mainstream though,I liked all those bands when they were either signed to the small independents,or no label at all. They only went mainstream because they were snatched up by the Majors! Or if the independents themselves went mainstream. Remember in those days mainstream was being on Top Of The Pops or being played continuously on Radio 1. Once they got hold of you that was it,curtains!

  • Does anyone have, or has anyone heard here on You Tube a copy of Gen X's song "Triumph"?

  • i was in love the beatles..WHOOO... i was in love with stones, no satisfaction. ROCK ON!

  • this is one of their most rockinest tunes, inho.

  • Lizzen Buttsurferzzz...Thizzz IZzz Billy Idol B-E-F-R-O-R-E Billy Idol Fame.... when He wuz Generation X....and B4 you all think U izz Keeewl....THIZ was written and Sung at the Ripe ol age of 1-5....THIS...the PistoLs...The Clash.....Rollins......Ramones....Black Flag..=..R-E-A-L Punk Rock....."AssetKicker" says It remindsz him of Hiz Youth......It reminds M-E of MY "Misguided Youth"....LOLzzzzz MOZT of this shit wuz recoreded witha FOUR track in a GA--Rawge and S-T-I-L-L izzzz timeless.......

  • awesome spelling...

  • BILLY IDOL IS THE BEST!!!!!!

    Best Punk Rocker ever!!!!!

    BILLY RULZ 4EVER

  • Wth? Billy Idol doesn't suck stupid!

  • I love this song! great pics:)

  • billy rules

  • Billy Idol may suck fool, but Generation X don't, fool.

  • dont forget marc bolan gave him a chance

  • Reminds me of my youth growing up in Santa Barbara California.

I hated it when Billy went mainstream.

    This stuff is timeless.

What a great era in punk though. Gen X, D.O.A., the Misfits, Ramones, Black Flag......

Its a shame that we have to get old because listening to this song after all these years is kinda creepy.

  • Don't forget the Sex Pistols and The Clash!

  • his prepubescent voice is way better.

  • this is shit?

  • He Ruled before he went solo, Billy that is, then he went like MTV friendly.

  • He was screwed over by the music scene that he help to start. So he moved from the UK to the USA and changed his style and became very commercially successful. He had some great music from both periods.

  • @FAUSTIANDAWN

I was juss gonna say that!! Thanxx Mate!! "Ere "Ave a Pint on me!!!! \~/

  • @FAUSTIANDAWN He still rules and never really stopped. He was MTV friendly when you had to have a hit or you didn't get on MTV. Before MTV equaled sell-out.

But, to each his own! ;)

  • @FAUSTIANDAWN Punks have to eat too, Most bands sell out,, if they dont they are either a tragedy, or dead.

  • @FAUSTIANDAWN billy idol was way better before he became Billy Idol

  • @FAUSTIANDAWN Yeah, but he's gone back to punk.

  • @FAUSTIANDAWN Well the thing is, as you prob know, there was kind of a morph in the early 80's. While GenerationX started as a true raw punk band as 'kids' in '76, they softened a bit in '81, becoming more mainstream as GenX - a 'post punk/pop punk' band & then later going more new wave until solo took Billy to a more pop/hard rock style. Still great though! For a pic of what they looked like at the time of this song, go to wikipedia and search: " Generation_X_(band) "

I cant enter the url here.

  • @FAUSTIANDAWN he has a few good songs but yes you're correct.

  • Makes me proud to be British !

  • @WildmanBorneo makes you proud to be a faggot?

  • Oh my god this is genius. Why didn't I make a love song to Cathy first!! :S

Sorry,my english is bad because im spanish XDDD

  • i love this song!!!

  • gen x were the nuts when i went to see them at the roundhouse, chalk farm, london back in '78

  • Billy is one happy Mutha Fucker!

  • Billy Idol may be a dork, but Gen X's first album is still one of the great punk albums of all time.

  • LOVE this SONG ! i love his accent very cool : )

  • Was her name really Cathy McGow-wow-wow-wow-wow-an?

  • when gen x were gen x they were so cool, alas, billy idol turned into some sort of camp divine.. what a shame he had such talent, its hard to pull off leather trousers when they are size 46...

  • I <3 Billy Idol

  • "i was in love with bobby dylan" :P

  • well i preffer billy when he was younger and more like a punk rocker then he turns like fetichism strange thing... but whatever he ROCKS TOO its better than shits like simple plan

  • It's funny how dangerous people used to think this was, its such major key britpop!I really love it, either way.

  • I'm not even a big punk fan--prog-rock all the way!--but this song is just a killer pop masterpiece by anyone's standards. And Billy Idol is a bit of an icon, no?

I too, am in love with Cathy McGowan...

  • Genn X was definetly underated!

  • Sid Vicious was a wuss.

  • hes a real wuss.he was a real wuss when he took a beer in the face and still started playing.and started figthing on the stage and cutted him self to make the figth go on.wat the hell did billy idol do?make a stupid faceto the camera that he stold from sid
