  • One of my all-time favorites. The appraiser was genuinely thrilled to be able to see and touch the watch and the owner was dumbfounded when he got the appraisal. Keep you "csi's" and "law and order's". This is good t.v.

  • 6000 bucks for a fucking Patek Philippe antique watch, the troll who appraised this watch must have been a fucking con man or has Down Syndrome, he didn't see the Patek Philippe logo instead he saw Micky Mouse, you can only get a shit one for that price, this watch is in such great condition, looks amazing and above all timeless.

  • Very nice watch :)

  • So which is worth more....this watch or the one from Pulp Fiction?

  • Yes. This is one incredible watch. I've never held a watch like this in my hand. That is one incredible watch. Yes. That is- incredible watch. It's the finest watch I've ever held in my hand. I've never seen anything like it other than photos. Carefully. Do not drop it. Keep it in a safe deposit box. Good.

  • @convoku All of that is true. Consider that this is a man who's obviously spent a good portion of his life in the field of horology and antique timepieces. You can feel his appreciation practically seeping through the video.

Plus, you know, it's a pocket-watch worth as much as a nice house.

  • "They were a little low..." Just a little.

  • when the guy told him 6,000 dollars the appraiser looked offended...

  • @suics Well, yeah, this guy has a near sexual-attraction to horology.

  • omg... Insane watch. Crazy to believe how complicated this kind of shit is.

  • They were a little low....

  • Good for him!

  • don't drop it !!!!!!

  • I always wait for the appraisers to drop these things. "It's worth about a quarter of a million- whoops!" Thanks for posting, I think these things are really interesting.

  • The show is a ripoff on credulous people who think they have something valuable when the truth is, the appraisers vastly overestimate what the items would bring at auction. In most cases, a seller at auction would get less than he paid for his item in the first place or at best, break even. The climax comes when the Roadshow sucker exclaims "Really? Oh my god, I had no idea it was that valuable!"

  • Wow.. And I thought that my one-of-a-kind Bulgari Tourbillon was expensive! I should have commissioned two of them!!

  • Antiques Roadshow is the maddest kick-ass show ever

  • a little low...?

  • poop

  • @freemj133 Agreed!

  • $6000!!! Damn Pawn Stars

  • "there were a little low"....LOL

  • His reaction is the best. "Nooo ... a quarter million? Whaaa? You're kidding." :]

  • at least he seems happy.., not like the others :@

  • "Don't drop it!"

  • Who are the 3 idiots who don't like this?

  • Is this the same watch that sold for $1,541,212 in May 16, 2006?

This is beautiful, though. Very fine watch!

  • @linekill It is ! I just googled it and its the exact same watch.

  • yeah what month is it?

  • keep watching

  • Holy grail of watches. If this went to auction, because of the show and all the knowledgeable watch collectors, this would set records. It is the pinnacle.

  • Believe me when i say this, as soon as this episode aired, the Patek Philippe company bought this watch off the guy. They are relentless in getting back their old watches for their museum

  • The story has holes. Who gave this watch to his Grandfather? i don't get it.

    excellent ending.

  • Too bad he didn't activate the minute repeater.

  • this must be an old show, i have seen PP old style clocks like this go at christies auctions for a few millions, even a wristwatch in the million class(also PP)...a good thing to do when u have something very rare is to get many different expert oppinions...6000 lol must have been a pawnshop trying to ripp him off

  • i wish i had something like this in my inheritance. This makes me want to go to every yardsale or antique shop i go buy and buy something.

  • damn pawn stars

  • @ripsaa2003

I'll give you 6k. That's the best I can do.

  • @ripsaa2003 That show does nothing but piss me off. Especially when they bring in and expert, and say for example he says its worth 60 grand, and the pawnstubs offer like 15 grand and the settle on 18. Id say, Im going to follow your expert and ask more questions. The other ploy those asses take is saying something like "well, how often do you see Geo Washington Medallion Auctions?" You don't, buttwipe...you take it to Sotheby's, Christie's or they will point you to an appraiser. Damn pawnslicks

  • yep even the appraiser didn't know a good value, it as valued at about 800-900k by the auctioneers, and it sold for twice that much about 1.8 mil..

  • @eolsunder If you get 2 people who want the same thing, then original price means nothing.

  • come on some prick estimated this timepiece for 6 grands, even 15 years ago is a retard, I ain't a watch expert but 90 plus years old Patek in original condition got to cost more than 6 grands. that watch looks awesome and old school. Good for him.

  • Excellent for you! Hope you sell it for a 1/2 mill!

  • i'm so happy for that man:) that people that sead 6k fck them!

  • 2:26

i love his slow tone. quarter million? hahaha

  • i got a pocket watch that was given to one of my maori ancestors by the early european settlers in new zealand i think whoever was given scratched his initials and date (1901) or summink like that on the inside .its a ttached to a rose gold chain to dont know if its worth anything tho...

  • its pretty beautiful to see how awed the appaiser was

  • this watch is stunning

  • "I will give you 50 bucks and a shave for it!"

  • no deal! I'll give 20 max, it's not even running!

  • What an amazingly intricate watch. I don't know anything about watches, so I can only imagine all the little cogs and wheels that must be inside.

  • That is quite possibly the most amazing watch I've ever seen.

  • "They were a little low "; you got that right!

  • 1:08 is where its at... as soon as he flipped that watch over i nearly shat a brick

  • wow i totally did not see that coming...fuck that's a sick watch

  • They don't make fancy gold pocket watches like this anymore. If they do, they're purely limited edition showpieces...what a truly marvellous timepiece.

  • omg i have a boner, i would hurt people just to have a an entry level patek, but i think i could murder puppies for this one!!!

  • It's wonderful to see such genuine shock and awe, and an owner who plans on holding on to the item. How fortunate to be oblivious of the value of that true gem.

  • My sporty digital Casio is way better.

  • i dunno i prefer the Sam's Club waterproof watch with elastic ...

  • What a great appraisal...An excellent Appraiser with an unsuspecting and sincerely suprised owner.

  • 2:45 "I''ve never seen anything like it... other than pearls." ?

  • Other than photos.

  • @fzztr3 wrong "other than PHOTOS"...of similar watches i presume......take note whippersnappers

  • @fzztr3 photos,,hes seen it in photos never in person

  • The Blancpain Grand Complication which retails for close to $1 million has similar functions to this stunning Patek and only three of those are made annually.

This Patek complication is in a different league alltogether.

If Patek are trying to locate these very watches for their museum then they are something really special

I can see a queue forming around the corner to buy this beauty for $250,000

If the Blancpain is near $1million this Patek is worth double that

    LUCKY LUCKY MAN

  • i love to see happy people

  • that is one incredible watch

  • guys i just saw on AOL news theres a new most expensive item. Some shell thing i think...

  • It was a 18th century jade collection from China, including an item owned by the emperor.

  • "Well, they were a little low..." lol

  • @getodachoppa1

    'little low'

    Damn pawnstars.

  • Awesome item...I love how the appraiser is basically "hitting on" the watch too because of how awesome the watch really is.

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • THIS IS ON RIGHT NOW!

  • Beautiful watch. I like the appraiser's appreciation of it.

  • HOLY FUCK

  • wow this is amazing for 1914!!

  • Amazing how, exactly?

  • I'd smack the asshole who told it was worth 6.000$

  • The guy who was trying to scam him on the original appraisal, i'd have to go back and kick him in his privates.

  • @Fektthis Perhaps but, there is also the possibility that he just didn't really know and his only scam was the cost of the appraisal.

  • omg id sell that thing in a second

  • Only white people make cool shit like this.

  • This is so great to see something good happen like this :)

  • According to Mr. Alexander Barter, director of the horology department at Sotheby's, this 1914 George Thompson Patek Philippe was sold for CHF 1,868,000.- (then equal to USD 1,541,212.-) the last time it was offered for sale.

  • MIRACLES STILL HAPPEN !

  • Gee-whillikers...I wish he'd flipped the repeater-lever. I would've loved to hear the gongs inside the watch.

  • Haha! You all who are flagging my posts, give me a break.

I've been in the watch repair business for 15 years now, I've personally repaired well over a thousand watches, everything from a simple clean and oil to replacement of hand made gears, balance staffs, hair springs, etc.

    INCLUDING Patek and Vacheron pieces.

I never said this watch wasn't worth the money it was valued at, I only said I don't see a time when it will be worth $20 MILLION as suggested by another poster.

    Sheesh.

  • I'll agree with you about 47% here. This watch is now known as the "1914 George Thompson Double-Dialed Watch". It sold at auction in 2008 for nearly $2m. I'd say it may fetch $10m within the hundred year span the estimator gave.

And in doing my research here, I learned something pretty amazing:

The Marie Antoinette No. 160, the "Mona Lisa" of watches, valued at $30m. What an incredible marvel of human engineering. Twenty-three complications, even including a thermometer.

  • @Ultranothing Re: the Marie Antoinette: ALSO stolen in 1983, and missing until only last year. The Breguet Marie Antoinette may be the most famous portable timepiece in existence. Beautiful thing, too, solid rock crystal covers/dials. It actually has only sixteen complications and, at the time it was built, was requested to contain every known complication possible in a pocket watch.

  • ok seriously.... i think i just had an orgasm! I have been a watch enthusiast/collector for the past 7 years.... these watches are one of a kind! Darn if i were him i would not sell that baby no matter what ..... 100 years from now it will be worth like the equivalent of today's 20mil $

  • the same analogy applied for Breguet's watches and clocks ... and now the world is filled with beautiful timepieces yet they still sell for millions ;) Even though this is not a unique piece it's still quite amazing seeing one in such a good condition ;)

  • Oh no, I understand your point, it's not completely invalid, not at all.

However, very few watches yield in the millions, Breguet or Patek, it has to be a VERY special piece, more often due to provenance than the complication alone.

This watch, while very valuable, just should never be worth that sort of money, if it is, it will mean the entire hobby of watch collecting has become fiscally insane.

  • It's all relative.

You think it's "fiscally insane" for the Patek Philippe company to try and reacquire an engineering masterpiece of theirs from close to a century ago, when other watches simply did not look or operate like theirs? Moon phase, leap years, dual chronograph - all powered by a tightly-wound spring? Oh, and it just happens to be gold!

That's worth a quarter million, easy, for someone who has the money and knows their watches. It's an investment in HISTORY for Patek Philippe.

  • Im pretty sure as soon as this aired, patek bought it from him at a premium.

  • is it the same for ancient books?

  • Counterpoint - Sell it and enjoy the money. Remember, you can't take it with you.

  • I'd leave that opportunity to my kids who would inherit the watch.... ;)

  • Very Grateful!

  • it tells u the moon cycle? crazy

  • LONG LIVE SAINT PAUL

  • I think the appraiser had a few orgasms at the end.

  • If I knew it would end up in a museum I'd sell for a quarter million and call it a day.

  • if i were the appraiser i woulda been like 6,000 bucks? ill give you 7,000 and we'll call it a deal haha

  • haha

  • Lol, a 'little low'.

  • I love this show, I only wish they go into detail on identifying reals from fakes.

Appraised price and actual price realized are two different things. And if you're lucky to have the right buyers at the auction, you might get beyond appraisal price!!!!

  • i prefer my Casio watch, it has a built in calculator

  • lol have you ever seen "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" a Casio!!

  • You'll never understand the hard work that went into a watch like this one.

  • I wear a pocket watch daily. Some people ask why I would wear an antique pocket watch when a 50c. digital watch tells time so much better. And really...it's the QUALITY. Back then, shit was made to LAST, unlike today. My main pocket watch (I have 2 ATM), is a 110 y/o Waltham. It keeps time just as good today as it did over a century ago. Another reason is...just LOOK at this watch, as an example. It's just sexy! You can't find stuff that looks this cool these days.

  • I think many brands still make very high end rugged watches, but most people would rather grab a quartz and call it a day. I have a couple of G-shocks, but mainly wear my Breitling and Anonimo which are both automatics.

  • What they say its worth and what you actually get are two different things

  • The appraiser's voice is putting me to sleep, lol.

  • Reading the variety of comments about this watch (and I have something of a passion for mechanical watches), I must say I'm astounded at some of the responses here. I for one was amazed that the watch would be worth a quarter-mill. Most antiques aren't as valuable as some people might like to think. Age actually counts for very little when it comes to determining value. QUALITY and RARITY determines value.

  • I'll agree with you about 75% here. Quality and rarity are important determinants - but with age, quality decreases, and rarity increases.

This watch had been appraised so higlly because the manufacturer was paying a premium for them.

  • Awesome watch, looks like the last appraiser was trying to take him for a fool.

  • That watch is smarter than me.

  • balio,

just by reading your response, QED

Do not be disappointed that you yourself do not exist

  • Can I buy LSD from you?

  • i dont think jw54 is a well man

  • wow, ive never seen anyone use QED here on youtube. interesting...

  • it is physically impossible to time 2 things at the same time. It would be an anomolly, and therefore it is proven that this watch is a hologram

  • man are you a fucking ass?

  • Thanks for posting this- I am watching all of them that you have posted. So far, this has been one of my favorites. The guy was so nervous! I get emotional easily, and this one made me tear up!

  • I am the same exact way :) That's why I posted these.

  • Me too, Heather! I'd be balling if I were him!

  • I did the exact same thing--I absolutely love watching these people hear awesome news.

  • The guy keeps saying no lol

  • Great how 1 single item u thought was worthless can change your life

  • Is the watch incredible? This appraiser goes into monotone overdrive. YOu can tell he's nervous at the start.

  • This is my favorite road show appraisal. The watch appraiser was afraid to touch it. When I saw that, I knew it was going to be worth a lot.

  • That is one sweet time piece.

  • *slowly raises hand*

  • YOU SUCK

  • i bet that guy is thinkig just get to the damn point! i know what this watch does just let me know how much it costs!

  • OK....Show of Hands. Who thinks Ultranothing is just a TAD of an elitist snob ?

  • OK Ultra. I've been reading your postings and in particular your responses to comments on your videos. Your are either a retired fifth-grade teacher, an employee of the government, or a 45-year-old homosexual who hasn't come out of the closet yet because he's afriad to tell his mom.

blabblab 1212 may be an attention-seeker, but he is correct is saying that a 4-dollar quartz movement will keep better time than a 25,000 Dollar mechanical one. AND nobody will cut off your hand to get at it.

  • Sorry I accidentally deleted that gem of a comment.

He may be correct in saying that a 4-dollar quartz movement will keep better time, but he is incorrect in saying that this is a "junk watch".

A quartz-movement is utilitarian. It is functional. It is cheap yet accurate. They are not trophies. A hand-made mechanical watch such as a Rolex or Patek, on the other hand, is a work of art. It is a finely-tuned, heirloom-quality marvel of machinery that is passed through generations. See?

  • What do you have against government employees? If you are going to generalize and imply that all government employees are idiots, then I will be inclined to agree with "jimmyinexile" when he says that you are an "elitist snob"

  • I have nothing against government employees. The comment that starts with "OK Ultra. I've been reading your postings and..." was written by the same person who called me an elitist snob. I had deleted it accidentally and copied it from my inbox to repost here, but I forgot to credit him with the comment.

SO, who would you like to agree with now?

  • In response to your presumptions as to who or what I am, I'm a 28 year old professional driver from CT - heterosexual but don't worry, there's someone out there for you!

If you've been reading my comments on this and other videos (you can probably just Google "ultranothing") you'll find that, in every instance, I am correct.

  • lol that was a hit

  • FUCK i should of robed this mofo.!

  • Yes, you should have robbed this innocent man of his property so that you could acquire all of the fantastical jungle-jam CD's and du-rags your parents could never afford.

  • i believe youre right

  • I'd like to see the inside of that watch damn

  • It's a pity that your videos seem to attract such imbicilic responces from some people. I find Antiques Road Show to be very entertaining and am glad that you posted the top 10. Thank you for posting these videos I have truly enjoyed watching them.

  • Thanks u/l I love how someone brings in something that fairly plain & thats the item that is worth big money.

  • SOMETHING FAIRLY PLAIN!? ITS a FXCKING Patek PHILIPPE watch! THEIR watches are EXPENSIVE enough today, LET ALONE a watch THAT OLD.

  • An 18k gold watch with that many complications, plain? Hmmm...

  • ultranothing, thanks for the ars videos! you tube plays better than the pbs website. I am still looking for the philestine helmet that had been used as a flower pot. if you have please post!

  • I'll look around!

  • Blabblab1212 is what's considered an attention-seeker. The best thing we can do for him/her is ignore the behavior. Notice that, though this person receives no email notification of a response to his comments, he/she will still return to these posts in a desperate attempt to garner any type of consideration for his remarks. This is evidenced by his multiple argumentative posts of a derogatory/flaming nature.

Feel sorry for him, but please - do not feed him.

  • Just for those not in the know: Rolex makes good watches. They're relatively rare, and they're desirable because of the quality and the rareness.

Patek Phillipe is far superior, and PP has made fewer watches in the entire 100+ year history of their company than Rolex makes a year.

A real patek phillipe will set you back $25,000, new from factory. I've looked; I wanted to buy one for the wife, but I can't afford that.

  • ROLEX is what the AVERAGE PERSON considers as the ULTIMATE LUXARY WATCH. RICH PPL just think THEY'RE CHEAP and TACKY.

  • A quality Rolex can set a person back quite a bit, but you do have a good point.

  • YEAH I DONT mean CHEAP as to the PRICE.

  • Well, since "donaldpan" wrote the comment about Rolex being cheap, you don't mean ANYTHING as to anything as far as this is concerned.

  • I agree with you to a certain degree. Although Rolex's movements are well built and durable, their craftsmanship and finishing are just mediocre in compare to Audemars Piguet, PP, and A. Lange & Sohne, which are my favorite three. I have never purchased a Rolex and I never will.

  • "They were a little low"...hahahah...I'd say

  • I think that your right that he knew what a Patek was, but I dont believe he knew it would be worth that much.

  • It seemed a genuine reaction to me.

  • He seemed to be tickled pink with the value. Genuine delight is how I see it.

  • I was under the impression that, as human beings, we had an innate ability to detect and read the body languages and emotional status of our fellow man, but apparently television has killed that part in some.

  • "Innate ability" is only part of reading body language. Like a blade, this skill can be sharpened or dulled, depending on how it is being honed. Mistrust and doubt make a poor whetstone.

I feel like I busted out some Aesop's there.
